Married To The Dragon Prince Against My Will-Chapter 215: BRING THE KING TO ME
Alexis felt the change the moment his boots hit Drakonis’ soil.
The realm looked stranger than he remembered.
He stood for a long moment and let the sight settle in his bones. He had been gone a long time, while he lay unconscious. Everything had shifted while he slept.
He walked toward the palace, several men crowded around him, having this strange feeling as he passed by them.
Even from a distance they felt the aura of him. There was something about his features that echoed the king.
At the palace gate a pair of guards rose to block him. Their armor flashed in the pale light. One of them planted his spear in the ground and cleared his throat as if to find courage.
"Leave, now or leave this world forever," Alexis barked. His voice tried to carry power, but it failed against the presence of Alexis’s.
Alexis did not bother to answer. He stepped forward and moved past them as if there were no barrier at all. One of the guards opened his mouth to shout a warning, words tumbling out in a panic.
"The crown prince is about to be attacked. Guards..." His shout cut off like a song whose string had been cut.
Alexis’s hand moved and his head snapped. It was quick, brutal, and precise. The others watched, frozen.
No one wanted to be the next to test the distance between the prince and his temper. The sound of breath left their mouths in one smooth, frightened rush. Heads bowed involuntarily. Men who had once stood with full boldness now lowered their eyes.
"Would anyone try my bad side again?" Alexis asked.
they all swallowed and shook their heads so hard it looked like rain on a still lake.
Having no choice they stepped back and opened the gates. Their hands trembled as they pushed the door aside.
Alexis walked through the carved archway and into the palace courtyard.
Servants and courtiers who were all in a meeting with the queen and Adam all froze in a tableau until the first of them found courage and fell to his knees. One by one they followed, until the entire courtyard looked like a field of bowed heads.
Sephora was the first to find her voice. "Alexis," she called, as if the name was a spell she had not expected to hear. Her face showed every color of surprise.
She stepped forward, having that shocking expression. "How? We were told you were dead.... I thought.."
Alexis ignored her as he glanced toward Adam. He let his hands curl and loose, watching Adam where he sat in the throne room.
Flames broke from his palms without his effort and he sent a flare of fire toward Adam where he sat on the throne.
One minute Adam had been occupying the seat that did not belong to him. The next he was stumbling, covering his face.
The nobles gasped still staring in shock, of course they recognised him so they knew who he was.
"Next time you dare to sit on the throne while the king still breathes, it will be your last day," Alexis said. His words were not loud, but they struck like iron.
Those who had been allied with Adam before took two steps back as if the ground itself turned toward them hostile.
Alexis had been a prince with principles. He had held the world steady with justice until a sudden sickness took him down.
In those days the court had moved to secure itself. The king, frightened and uncertain, had quickly looked for alliances. So he arranged a betrothal between Adam and the princess from the Celestial Realm.
Queen Sephora rushed to her son as soon as she could. She wrapped herself around him with her mother’s desperation.
"Whatever council was planned here is suspended," Alexis declared at once glaring at the nobles present.
"The king is still in the sick bed and may sit on the throne again."
They all broke in murmurs and Alexis ignored the murmurs. "I said get out!" he yelled and at once they all ran away.
The moment the last person left and the door closed he pushed through to where Adam stood, his eyes like knives. He moved with a speed that had been tempered by pain and absence.
Adam tried to gather himself and answer with the same arrogance that had carried him into the palace, but Alexis closed the distance between them in two sure strides.
"Where is the king?" Alexis asked at once.
"I... I... Don.." Adam answered with a hit from Alexexis.
He tried to speak and reason, but another blow collided with his jaw. The second hit was meaner. It was a statement meant to humiliate as much as to hurt.
Adam shifted back in pain with both hands on his face as he groaned in pain.
His hands found Adam’s collar again and he pulled him close so that the two of them breathed the same air.
"Do not kill your brother," Sephora pleaded, panic strangling her voice.
"He was not the one responsible for your sickness." Alexis’s grip tightened. His fingers curled like iron around Adam’s throat. "Do not test my patience, mother," he said. It was both an order and a warning.
Queen Sephora stared at her son’s fear deep within her bone, it’s been a while since anyone had made her this terrified.
"Brother... I didn’t hurt him." Adama struggled and Alexis slammed him against the wall making him couch out.
Before he could regain his balance Alsxis was already standing before him and punched him right on his stomach as he grabbed his neck again.
Alexis loomed above Adam. His eyes are bright red, of course he has just the same power as his father and everyone is terrified of him. "If you want him to live," he said to those in earshot, "then bring me to my father." The command left no space for negotiation.
Adam gasped as he struggled to breathe.
"Bring him to me. I want to see him with my own eyes." Alexis barked out.
