Married to my nemesis-Chapter 256: Mia’s Case
"I am amazed that your strategy was successful; we actually managed to catch her," Matthew exclaimed with excitement as he walked over to Vixen.
A light chuckle escaped from Vixen’s lips as he observed him carrying glasses of champagne, each filled halfway.
With a steady hand, he began distributing them among Vixen, John, the lawyer who was supposedly representing Abigail Camino, and naturally, the sheriff responsible for overseeing Vixen’s case.
"Thank you," Vixen expressed his gratitude as he accepted the glass, shifting his attention to the other men gathered around.
"I believe it’s time for us to raise our glasses in a celebratory toast for this delightful occasion, don’t you think?" Vixen enthusiastically suggested, prompting everyone to join in the gesture.
After that, they started sipping from their cups.
"Concerning Miss Abigail, have you come up with any ideas on how we might be able to free her from Mia’s control?" inquired the sheriff.
Vixen sighed deeply, then shifted his focus towards the large window in the sheriff’s office, which offered a sweeping view of half the city from ceiling to floor.
The sheriff quickly picked up on Vixen’s displeased look and asked with concern, "Is there any information we should be aware of, Mr. Vixen?"
"Actually, sir, we received a message just before Vixen was brought into the room," Matthew informed him.
A frown appeared on the sheriff’s face as he inquired, "What is the message about that makes you seem uneasy?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
In response, Matthew reached into his pocket and handed the sheriff the phone for him to examine.
The sheriff, stunned, remarked, "Oh, this is quite a lot."
"Mia did that not long ago," Vixen explained. "She took a photo of Abi and sent it to us, hoping we would immediately drop the case." He then turned his attention to the sheriff.
"But Mr. Vixen, have our men managed to pinpoint her location?" John inquired, observing as Vixen turned his eyes towards him and gave a nod in response.
"She will return before evening. For the moment, I need her to believe that Abi is still under her control. She will inevitably reach out to her men first to verify that Abi remains with them. So, whatever steps we take, we must ensure she continues to believe she has the upper hand," Matthew said with confidence.
"Especially considering she has already come to the realization that this case no longer revolves around Mr. Vixen," added the lawyer handling Abigail’s case.
Everyone nodded in agreement, and with a sigh, Vixen took a sip from the champagne glass.
"It will certainly be interesting to observe what she intends to plan, as Mia has faced defeat in the past and is well aware of this fact. There is absolutely no chance she could manage to harm my family the way she did previously," Vixen declared.
His voice carrying a chilly edge while his gaze seemed fixed on nothing, his thoughts drifting far away.
*
Mia let out a low growl as she was forcibly urged to move ahead; the police officers found it necessary to propel her forward since she was resisting their instructions to walk calmly and obediently, just as they had directed her to do.
It was likely due to the fact that she was being escorted to her cell.
Mia couldn’t prevent herself from gritting her teeth in frustration; she was determined not to forgive whoever was responsible for her predicament, especially the lawyer who was representing Abigail in this legal matter.
As she strolled through the corridors, she was abruptly shoved into a cell, and the restraints on her wrists were finally taken off.
Mia seethed with rage, almost ready to kick the cell bars when a voice interrupted her.
"I advise you not to bring that fury of yours into this cell. Believe me when I say it won’t be as exciting as the outside world," The voice sounded eerily familiar, prompting her to turn her head around.
It was one of the men she had ordered to eliminate the bald-headed man, and now that he was in custody, did he truly have the audacity to address her in such a disrespectful way?
"You," Mia growled with a fierce intensity, as she advanced toward him, her intention clear in her eyes, ready to clutch his collar with force.
Just as she was about to act, he abruptly slapped her across the cheek, causing her to gasp in shock and pain as her hand flew to her cheek in disbelief.
"How dare you?" Mia roared with fury, preparing to retaliate.
But before she could make her move, another man who had been silently observing the situation stepped in between them, trying to defuse the escalating tension.
"Ma’am, please understand, he sincerely apologizes. He often loses his temper, especially after the frustration of being in jail," the other man pleaded, attempting to reason with her.
However, his words were cut short when, to his utter surprise, Mia delivered a sharp slap to his face as well.
"Don’t even think about coming near me! Do you have any idea how much this dress is worth? Even if you worked your whole life, you couldn’t afford it," she snapped at him.
But just then, she noticed the man’s expression darken, and in the next moment, he was striding toward her with an icy stare.
Mia struggled to maintain a composed facade, trying to appear unbothered by his sudden approach, even though her heart was racing wildly due to their proximity.
She remembered hiring these men to eliminate the baldheaded man, but if they kept her around any longer, she was certain they would end up getting her killed.
"Hey, just what exactly do you think you’re doing? Let me tell you right now, I won’t show you any mercy once I manage to get out of this place," she warned him, her voice sharp and unwavering.
As he moved closer, she instinctively stepped back, only to feel the cold, unyielding surface of the wall pressing against her back.
She was trembling from the inside out, a shiver running through her entire being.
"If you truly had the money to escape this place, then explain why you’re still here. You might have wealth, but unfortunately for you, ma’am, you lack any semblance of respect. Honestly, you deserve to be locked up behind bars for the rest of your life," the man candidly remarked, his words cutting and direct.
"Hey, how dare you," Mia exclaimed, clearly agitated by his words, and in a moment of anger, she instinctively raised her hand with the intention of slapping him.
However, unlike previous encounters, he swiftly caught her hand, effectively preventing her from following through with her action.
"Didn’t you hear what I just said? You should consider yourself fortunate that I have a rule against hitting women, otherwise, ma’am, you would find yourself sprawled on the ground, feeling the sting of the slap I would have given you."
"Trust me, I’ll ensure that you remain in this jail for the rest of your life. Just trust me, I’ll make certain you never see another day outside of this place," Mia threatened with determination.
"Well, it would certainly be reassuring to hear that I’d be better off remaining here. However, there’s something you should know, ma’am: your actions won’t go unnoticed, and you might end up following us as well," the man remarked, causing Mia to frown deeply.
"What do you mean by that?" Mia asked, clearly taken aback, yet she quickly managed to free her hand from the man’s grip.
Her hand started to feel a burning sensation from where it had been held.
The red marks began to show clearly on her wrist.
"Why don’t I just handle her myself? After all, she’s not serving any purpose," the other man, who had been silent for a while, attempted to make his way toward Mia.
However, the man standing near Mia intervened before he could advance any further and simply shook his head.
"Let it go, man. You’re only going to cause her harm," the man said in a composed manner.
In the following moment, the cell’s bar swung open, and with a look of both cunning and eagerness, Mia quickly approached the police officer stationed in front of the cell.
"Officer, are you able to see the treatment I am receiving from them?" Mia asked, revealing the bruises that marked her cheek.
"They are both attempting to end my life," Mia lamented, yet she observed a frown forming on the police officer’s face.
The woman then remarked, "I was under the impression that you hired them to carry out your crime, so what reason would they have to harm you? You are their employer."
"I—" Mia responded in disbelief, "Why would you assume I have the answers to that?"
"Well, in that case, you have a visitor," the policewoman announced, Mia’s expression lighting up with a hint of excitement.
She seemed to recognize that it was likely it was her lawyer or perhaps her aunt, who had arrived to arrange for her release.
