Married to My Ex-Fiancé's Cousin-Chapter 868: Her Birthday
Ever since that incident with the aunt, where Bai Liyan almost took her, Gu You was angry, and there had been no intimate gestures between them.
Gu You held her breath, watching as he approached her, simply closing her eyes.
Bai Liyan moved closer, his face almost touching hers. She could even feel his breath, but he never closed the distance. Instead, he chuckled...
Gu You opened her eyes, just in time to meet his radiant smile.
Bai Liyan reached out and grabbed something from the windowsill, "Do you always like leaving things around chaotically?"
Gu You: "..."
Bai Liyan had already turned and walked away. She stood there stunned, recalling her own reaction, wishing she could just slap her face. What should she do? How embarrassing—it’s absolutely mortifying!
Not long after, Bai Liyan tidied up her living room. He turned around and saw Gu You stabbing her straw into her milk over and over, her eyes full of resentment.
He smiled and said, "Aren’t you still not finished with your draft? Hurry up and draw! How can you just stand there when I’m helping with chores?"
"I told you it’s my birthday today. I’m not drawing."
"Come on, finish your drawing and there will be a gift for you," Bai Liyan said in a cheerful mood.
Hearing this, Gu You asked with some disbelief, "Really?"
"Yeah."
Filled with anticipation for the gift, Gu You quickly went to work on her drawing. Meanwhile, Bai Liyan continued to help tidy up her place, acting the part of a typical domestic man. He even adjusted the furniture in her home to positions she was used to.
By evening, Gu You stretched lazily and walked out of her studio, barely believing her eyes when she saw her home.
At that moment, Bai Liyan was sitting by the window, drinking coffee.
She walked over, "Bai Liyan, I finished the drawing."
"Take a seat!" He had set up a small table by the window for her. Gu You sat down and looked around, "You really know how to tidy up."
"You can’t learn this kind of taste," Bai Liyan said, looking at her with a smile.
Hearing Bai Liyan’s words, Gu You furrowed her brow, "Why do I feel like you’re dissing me?"
"I am dissing you."
"Why is your mouth so cheeky?" She rolled her eyes and extended her hand to him, "Where’s my gift?"
"Gift?" Bai Liyan asked with puzzlement.
Gu You glared at him, "You said that when I finished drawing, you’d give me a gift. I’ve worked hard for several hours. Are you going to tell me you tricked me?"
"I forgot," Bai Liyan said, "Isn’t helping tidy your home a gift in itself?"
"Bai Liyan, you’re such a big liar!" Gu You angrily lunged at Bai Liyan, knocking him onto the floor.
Bai Liyan reached out, calmly propping up his head, looking at the girl lying on top of him without saying a word.
Gu You met his gaze, feeling incredibly awkward under the eyes of the man before her.
She stared at his face for a long time, instinctively licking her lips. Just as she was about to shift away, a hand seized her waist, holding her in place.
"What are you doing?" she protested weakly.
Bai Liyan laughed, "Weren’t you expecting a gift?"
"Hmph, if you don’t want to give it, just forget it. You’re so stingy! When it was your birthday last time, I even gave you a gift!" Even though Bai Liyan wasn’t too fond of it back then, she still spent a long time picking it out.
Bai Liyan said, "I’ve already prepared a gift."
"Really?" She lit up like a little kid, with eyes twinkling at the mention of a gift.
Bai Liyan said, "Why wait for someone to give you something? Can’t you buy what you want yourself?" Even though her work as a comic artist was solitary and demanding, she wasn’t short on money.
Gu You said, "How can a gift from someone else be the same as buying it yourself? I didn’t receive many gifts growing up, so I really like it when others give me things. No matter what it is, it’s always a gesture of affection, isn’t it?"
She had always been a good kid. Anytime someone in the family had a birthday, she’d thoughtfully prepare gifts for everyone; yet her birthday was never remembered by anyone.
She was always the insignificant one.
Thinking about this, Gu You’s eyes momentarily dimmed, but she quickly swept that away.
She looked at Bai Liyan with anticipation, "Where’s my gift? Didn’t you say you prepared it?"
Bai Liyan curled his lip and said, "Isn’t it right in front of you?"
"In front of me?" Gu You looked around, seeing nothing.
Just as she was looking around, Bai Liyan had already pulled her into a kiss.
Gu You was stunned for a moment. If she wasn’t mistaken, wasn’t this man taking advantage of her?
His lips were warm and soft. Surprised, Gu You glanced at Bai Liyan for a moment, but didn’t push him away.
When she thought he would kiss her, he didn’t. Then when she didn’t expect it at all, he did.
This man really doesn’t play by the rules!
"Do you like this gift?" After the kiss, Bai Liyan looked at her mischievously and asked.
Gu You left his embrace, her face flushed, "This is clearly you taking advantage of me, yet you call it a gift!"
Bai Liyan sat up as well, inspecting her, "Weren’t you just wanting me to kiss you?"
"When was that?" Gu You glared at him fiercely.
"Earlier, at the window." Bai Liyan’s eyes held a hint of amusement.
Gu You pouted and denied it, "I was not."
Bai Liyan reached out, grasping her hand on the floor. He looked at her gently, remaining silent.
After spending this time together, he was certain Gu You had a place in his heart.
He liked this girl and wanted to be with her.
The doorbell rang, and Bai Liyan stood up, saying, "I’ll get the door."
"Okay." Gu You still sat on the floor by the window, gazing at his back. He said he was giving himself to her as a gift.
She wasn’t very experienced in love, but she wasn’t foolish. She knew this man had feelings for her.
The cake that Bai Liyan ordered had just been delivered. He placed it on the table and said to Gu You, "I got you a birthday cake."
The room was dim, and Bai Liyan lit candles on the cake, lighting up the entire room.
Gu You sat next to him, watching, taking in his every move.
Bai Liyan propped his chin, looking at her with gentle eyes as she blew out the candles and made a wish.
Gu You opened her eyes, "Guess what I wished for?"
"What?"
"Not telling you."
"..."
Looking into his eyes, Gu You had never felt so happy.
She liked this gift and liked the man in front of her.
It was the first time she had felt what love was like.
Although she wasn’t sure how much Bai Liyan loved her, at this moment, she felt truly happy.
