Married to My Ex-Fiancé's Cousin-Chapter 824: Working Overtime Late into the Night
Gaming is different from other jobs; it’s very busy. Sometimes the company’s technical staff work late into the night. Ji Yunhuan also doesn’t want to leave too early. She believes in the principle ’you get what you give’, so she wants to put in more effort. That way she can reach her goal and marry Qi Cheng sooner!
"Director Ji, you haven’t gone home yet?" Lin Zheng came out of the technical department and noticed the lights in Ji Yunhuan’s office were still on and she was still looking at documents, "It’s raining outside, so I’m waiting a bit longer."
"It’s already past eight o’clock!"
It wasn’t until Lin Zheng mentioned it that Ji Yunhuan checked the time and realized it was quite late. "It’s fine, you don’t have to worry about me. If you’re busy, you can go home first. I have a driver."
Being late isn’t a big deal.
Seeing Ji Yunhuan’s persistence, Lin Zheng didn’t say anything more.
He left the office and returned shortly with a cup of hot coffee.
"Thank you." Ji Yunhuan expressed her gratitude for his thoughtfulness.
Lin Zheng smiled, "It’s what I should do."
After delivering the coffee, Lin Zheng left.
Around nine o’clock, Ji Yunhuan was still in her office. She planned to finish reviewing the last of her work before leaving, so she wouldn’t have to take it home.
Just then, her phone rang.
Sitting in her chair, she picked up the phone and saw it was a call from Qi Cheng, quickly pressing the answer button.
Due to their infrequent meetings, being able to call Qi Cheng made her heart race with excitement.
Qi Cheng said, "I just called home, and the housekeeper said you haven’t returned yet. What are you doing?"
"I’m at the office!"
"It’s raining over there; why are you still at the office? At this hour?" Qi Cheng sounded a bit unhappy. While supporting her work, he didn’t approve of her neglecting her health: "Even if it’s work, don’t be so reckless!"
"It’s because it was raining at quitting time that I decided to wait for it to stop. Who knew it would still be going now? I’ll head home soon." Hearing Qi Cheng’s concern made Ji Yunhuan happy, her voice full of joy, "How about you? What are you doing? You had time to call me."
"I just missed you, so I wanted to call." Qi Cheng sighed quietly on the other side; whenever she spoke in such a tone, he couldn’t bring himself to scold her.
Ji Yunhuan was a bit tired, but hearing Qi Cheng’s words made her fatigue vanish.
She smiled, "Thank you, I miss you too."
The office fell silent; Qi Cheng didn’t speak, nor did Ji Yunhuan, yet even without speaking, she could feel his presence on the other end.
After a long time, she finally heard a soft cough from his side, "Cough—"
Worried, Ji Yunhuan asked, "Are you catching a cold? Your voice sounds a bit off." If Qi Cheng got sick, he was prone to fevers and pneumonias based on past experiences, and now Ji Yunhuan was particularly afraid he’d get a cold.
"It’s nothing, just a bit cold here. I’ve taken some medicine."
"Really no problem? I’m still a bit worried about you." Ji Yunhuan complained, "I’ve told you to take good care of yourself, and you still don’t pay attention."
"I’m fine now, I’ll be more careful in the future." At this point, Qi Cheng laughed, "Hearing your voice now, I feel much better."
"Does it hurt a lot?"
"I’ve had a full day of meetings, I’m exhausted." Qi Cheng said, "Let’s not talk now, you should head home, and call me when you get there."
Although he didn’t want to end the call while chatting with her.
But he also didn’t want her staying too late at the office.
Ji Yunhuan suddenly became serious, "Qi Cheng."
"What is it?"
Qi Cheng couldn’t help but worry as soon as he heard Ji Yunhuan’s voice.
He’s not by her side, so he worries she’ll be tired, won’t take care of herself, or might face grievances, but recently he’s been really busy.
His schedule is packed daily, even finding time to meet her is hard to come by.
"I really miss you." Ji Yunhuan’s voice was filled with deep affection and seriousness.
In the hotel room, Qi Cheng’s worry gradually turned into a smile as he heard her words.
"I know." His voice carried happiness.
Ji Yunhuan chuckled to herself, "Then I’ll hang up and head home! We’ll talk when I get there."
"Alright." To avoid wasting any more time, Qi Cheng quickly hung up the phone.
Ji Yunhuan stood up, took her coat, and walked out the door.
The rain outside was falling persistently with no sign of stopping. The driver had been waiting downstairs for a long time. Upon seeing Ji Yunhuan come out, he quickly opened the car door.
Ji Yunhuan got in the car, sitting in the backseat, looking out the window.
It was already late at night; the street lamps in the rain had a misty, blurry feel.
Ji Yunhuan leaned her elbow against the car window, gazing out, remembering a time after they parted ways when he got drunk and came to the Ji Family in the rain to find her, and every time she recalls it, her heart flutters.
Like now, seeing the rain, thinking of him softened her heart.
Back home, the housekeeper had already prepared breakfast for her. Ji Yunhuan ate a bit and went upstairs.
Since the two kids were already asleep, she didn’t disturb them and went straight to her room.
She really was a bit tired!
Lying in bed, she dialed Qi Cheng’s number. Now that she’s home, she naturally wanted to let him know.
However, no one answered the call. She checked the time; it was already half-past ten. Considering how tired he was during the day, he probably had fallen asleep by now.
At night, Ji Yunhuan was woken by a text message alert. She poked her head out from under the covers, squinting under the phone’s bright light but persisted in reading the text. As expected, it was from Qi Cheng:
Sorry, fell asleep suddenly and missed your call. You’re probably asleep, good night!
Waiting until she went to sleep, even the phone couldn’t wake him, proving she was truly exhausted. Even though Ji Yunhuan wanted to reply to his message, she held back.
If they started chatting now, it would be endless.
So she smiled slightly and closed her eyes without even saying goodnight back to him.
She believed that even if she didn’t say it, Qi Cheng would still understand her feelings.
In the morning, Ji Yunhuan got up early. Although she was very tired when she returned last night, after a night’s sleep, she felt refreshed again.
However, on the phone, Qi Cheng sounded like he was coughing more severely than last night.
"Has your cold gotten worse?" Ji Yunhuan placed the phone on speaker while washing her face, feeling uncomfortable hearing his cough.
Qi Cheng replied, "I’m fine, really. Have you gotten up already?"
