Chapter 281: Determination

It was something that had been puzzling him ever since he saw that other version of him in the other timeline.

He couldn’t help but put himself in Leon’s shoes, wondering how he would have felt if something like that happened to him.

After all, watching him every day must have reminded him of his long-lost friend, who was wiped out from time.

"I already made my peace with all that happened Harry..." Leon said, with a warm smile on his face.

"You and that Harry—the one I knew, might look alike, but are very different."

"If anything, I’m kinda glad things turned out like this... to me, you’re a reminder that the original timeline really existed."

As he spoke, a distant memory resurfaced in his mind, one which involved a conversation between him and the other Harry.

Back then, they had discussed how things would be if their situation was reversed.

That is; if instead of him, Harry had been the manaless mage.

At the time, they had only been joking about it, however, who would have thought that something like that would indeed happen?

Though in a different timeline, and with a different version of Harry.

In a way, it made him happy, reminding him of the fond memories he had together with his best friends.

So he didn’t feel bad about watching Harry live as the manaless mage, neither did it affect his wish to help him also.

"Okay..." Harry nodded, with a slight smile on his face.

Though he managed to keep his composure, his mind was still in turmoil, pondering over everything he had experienced that day.

For a few seconds, silence reigned between him and Leon, both immersed in their world.

Having revealed all that he had been keeping within for so long, Leon felt very relieved, like a heavy load had been taken off his mind.

Harry, on the other hand, was busy processing all the information he had learnt today, thinking about how he would fare in the midst of it all.

He couldn’t help but compare himself and Leon in his mind again, thinking about the huge differences between them.

Unlike him, Leon hadn’t given up when he discovered he couldn’t draw mana. Instead, he worked hard... awakening his true power and growing far more powerful than his peers.

He on the other hand, simply gave up, letting himself get crushed by the heavy weight of depression.

He never even bothered to view his situation in a positive light, only focusing on the negative.

Until he got the system, all he did was wallow in hopelessness, feeling like he was born to be useless in the world.

Now that he thought about it, he felt quite embarrassed about his actions, especially how he easily gave up on himself.

However, he would never let such happen again.

Never again will he ever give up on himself, or let others dictate how he lived his life.

He would level up as much as he could... growing stronger than any other person in the universe, making sure he was in direct control of his fate.

Whether he was the manaless mage or not, he would smash every last wall standing in his way, to achieve his goals in life.

He would ensure nothing could stand in his path, be it humans, or demons, and even the damned celestials he saw in the other timelines.

"Don’t worry Leon." He suddenly said, breaking the silence once again.

Leon’s eyes widened in surprise, his gaze shifting back to Harry.

He couldn’t help but be surprised at the bright look of determination shining within Harry’s eyes, causing a smile to tug at his lips.

"Doesn’t matter whether it’s the demons, celestials, they’ll never be able to win... as long as I’m here," Harry said, clenching his hands into a tight fist.

"I’m going to level up, and grow even more powerful, so I’ll be able to take them all down." He continued, a cold glint flashing through his eyes as he stared at his clenched fist.

Hearing those words greatly moved Leon’s heart, and the smile on his lips widened slightly.

"Yeah... I believe you." He muttered, a warm smile gracing his face before he knew it.

He didn’t know why, but he saw no reason to doubt Harry’s words.

From Harry’s gaze alone, it was clear that no more words needed to be said.

All they could do was focus on the future, preparing for the turbulent times which were about to come.

"Ohh... and how do I leave this place?" Harry asked, looking at him in confusion.

"You just have to wish it, and you’ll find yourself back in the world in no time."

Harry nodded, closing his eyes while imagining he was back in his house.

*

By the time he opened his eyes back, he found himself sitting in the same position he was before being pulled into the white room.

"Haa..." He exhaled, staring at the furnace burning before him with a strange glint in his eyes.

"I’m back... at last." He mumbled, sprawling on the ground in exhaustion.

"I wonder how long I spent in there..." He muttered, turning his head to the clock hanging on the wall.

However, when he saw the time displayed on the clock, his eyes couldn’t help but widen in surprise.

’Only ten minutes has passed?!’ He thought, staring at the time in disbelief.

With all the things he witnessed through Leon, he felt like years had passed since he was pulled into the white room.

He even expected days to have passed by in the real world or even weeks and was already thinking about how he would make up for all that lost time.

But to think all that was finished in a mere twenty minutes, without affecting his daily life in the slightest.

’That’s good...’ He thought, slumping back to the ground.

[Quest "Unlocking Affinities" completed!]

[Rewards Granted: +5000EXP, Class Evolution to "Manaless Mage"]

’Yeah, my rewards.’ Harry thought, with an excited smile on his face.

He couldn’t help but wonder how much reward he would get with his evolution, and he couldn’t wait to see it.

As if the system could read his thoughts, another notification suddenly appeared before him, causing his eyes to widen in shock.

’What?!’ All the fatigue within him immediately vanished, and he sprang back up, staring at the screen before him in disbelief.
