Manaless Mage-Chapter 253: Terrible timing
Chapter 253: Terrible timing
It was also due to this reason that he kept the truth about his energy a secret, simply lying that he awakened an extremely rare element.
Apart from a few close friends and relatives, no one else knew the truth about the flame burning within him.
Hiding the truth like this made him feel a pant in his heart, which only worsened after he was given the black star rank.
Nonetheless, he consoled himself that it was a necessary thing.
He currently had three elements, which were time, light and fire. He awakened the other two a few years after awakening his time element, greatly boosting his power.
Exposing everything about himself might bring harm to not just him but also the world itself.
Since he didn’t even know what his energy was supposed to be, or where it originated from, he couldn’t be careless about who he revealed it to.
To the people of the world, Leon was just a supreme grand mage, and was well known as the fastest to ever reach that stage.
He was also known as the most powerful Elementalist in the world, a fact which was solidified after he went toe to toe with the demon king and defeated him.
If only they knew the truth about his power, he couldn’t help but wonder if they would treat him the same way they do now.
"Hah... I can’t be occupied with things like that now." He muttered, staring at his reflection in the mirror with a wide smile on his face.
Today was his happiest day on earth, after five years, he was finally getting married to the love of his life.
He wouldn’t let anything in the world ruin it for him.
He swiftly knotted a dark red tie, before tucking a small red handkerchief within his pocket.
"Yeah, I’m not late." He muttered, taking a brief second to glance at the watch on his pockets.
"Leon!!" Suddenly a familiar voice shouted from the door, causing him to roll his eyes in annoyance.
Bang!
Without waiting for him to answer, a handsome man with sleek brown hair bursted into the room, staring at him with one of his brows raised up.
He was also putting on a suit, one strikingly similar to the one Leon had on. He also had a dark brown goatee and moustache, which greatly complemented his appearance.
"You haven’t even finished dressing up?" Harry said, smacking his forehead in disappointment.
"What are you? Taking up hours just to put on some clothes, don’t you know you’ll be late." He said, sitting down on a small sofa at the other end of the room.
"Late? We still got close to an hour dude, I just wanna be sure of a little thing." Leon said, turning his gaze back to the mirror in front of him.
"Yeah... that’s what you said thirty minutes ago." Harry replied, resting his back on the soft surface of the sofa. "I feel like I’m growing white beards just by waiting for you..."
"W-what..." Leon muttered, shaking his head slightly. "We still got about an hour before the wedding starts, you need to chill."
"Don’t you know it’s bad omen if you’re late for your wedding... and as your best man, that’s gonna give me a bad image!" Harry said, completely ignoring his words about how there was still enough time.
"Imagine what could happen... imagine... just imagine." He said, making a dramatic expression like he was heartbroken.
However, his expression suddenly took on a complete change, turning into a serious one almost immediately.
"I guess it doesn’t really matter for you, since you can just get time to wait for you." He muttered, gently rubbing his beard as if he was pondering something.
Leon had already told him about the truth behind his element, in fact it happened only a few months after he ’mistakenly’ cured his mother’s mana core corruption.
He also knew about Leon’s energy, and how it was completely different from the mana every other Elementalist used.
At first he was angry, feeling that Leon should have told him sooner. After all, then were best friends.
But after putting himself in his shoes, he understood why he tried to keep it secret at first.
The both of them quickly settled their differences, and since they, they journeyed together, helping each other get stronger as they fought through the waves of demons.
"Nah, I’m not doing that today." Leon said, slowly rubbing the sides of his hair.
Today was going to be a ’normal’ beautiful day, no time powers or anything like that.
He had already had his fill of ’strange things’, and he planned on making today a memorable, yet ’normal’ day.
"Hmm... that’s surprising." Harry said, with a slight smile on his face.
"Now let’s go, we can’t let ourselves get any later than this you know." He said, slowly standing up from the chair.
"And as I said before, we’re not late." Leon said, sighing under his breath.
"Whatever you say man."
***
Standing on a well-decorated altar was Leon, along with a woman whose face was covered with a thin white veil.
Standing beside him was Harry, alone with a small number of groomsmen.
The woman was putting on a beautiful white gown, which only complemented her beautiful features and graceful curves.
She also had her chief bridesmaid standing next to her, along with the rest of the brides maiden.
Seated within the congregation was a surprisingly small number of people, each one watching the scene playing out in front of them with happy smiles on her faces.
Although a lot of people wanted to attend the wedding, mainly due to Leon’s position.
However, he refused, stating he wanted a small wedding instead.
"Leon Ainsworth, do you take Anna Belmont to be your wife..." The priest beside them said, turning to Leon as he recited his vows.
"Yes I do..." Leon swiftly nodded his head, unable to conceal his excitement.
"Anna Belmont, do you take Leon Ainsworth to be your husband..." The priest turned towards the bride, also reciting her vows with a proud smile on his face.
"Yes I do..." The woman said, shyly bending her head to the side.
After giving them their blessings, the priest went on to say the magic words they had both been dying to hear: "You may now kiss the bride."
Leon slowly veiled the woman before him, revealing her beautiful face for his eyes alone.
She had long amber hair, along with pitch black eyes. Her face was simply breathtaking, with a round shape and small lips, which added even more to her charm.
Their faces slowly drew together, with Leon gently placing his hands over neck.
Rumble!
But just as their lips were about to connect, the ground suddenly shook violently, rocking them off their feet.
"W-what...?" The woman said, almost falling to the ground.
However, Leon reaction was swift, and he quickly grabbed her before she fell, balancing her feet back on the ground.
"What is going on?" The woman muttered, gently holding unto Leon’s hands.
"I-I don’t know." He replied, his expression twisting into a deep frown.
’The mana in the air... it’s extremely thin!’ He thought, coming to a shocking realisation.
Though the amount of mana in the air wasn’t normally stable, as it usually fluctuated, there had never been a situation where it was this thin!
’This... is strange.’ Leon thought, the frown on his face deepening even further.
From the reports gathered by the AMO, the mana in the air was very stable, meaning there shouldn’t be any rifts or mana beasts attack for at least six months!
Rumble!!
While he was still pondering about what just happened, another rumble suddenly shook the earth, this time even more powerful than before.
"Ahhh... what is going on?"
"Why’s the ground trembling?!!"
Different shouts started coming from the audience, as they were all scared of whatever was happening.
Unable to maintain their balance, some of them fell to the ground, cursing out in pain and anger.
"Everybody calm down!" One of the groomsmen beside Harry shouted, moving towards the audience.
"Leon..." Harry muttered, moving closer to the blonde haired man. "I’m getting loads of information, about a large number rifts opening all over the world."
"W-what?!" Leon said, his eyes widening in horror.
"They’re all opening at the same time, there’s no way we would be able to handle mana beast attacks of this extent."
Although there had been unexpected mana beast attacks before, in a case where a rift opened up when no one expected, there had never been a case where numerous rifts appearing at the same time!
Something of this magnitude was unprecedented in the history of the world! It was something that never even happened during the infamous "apocalypse ages"!
The frown on Leon’s face deepened even further as he sensed the mana around rapidly growing thinner and thinner.
’All I wanted was to have a ’normal’ day, when I could celebrate my wedding happily, without having to worry about anything like this...’ He thought, clenching his fists tightly in frustration. ’So what the hell is this supposed to mean?!’
