Make France Great Again-Chapter 877 - 868: Unfathomable Might
The Old Chief’s assurance completely calmed Captain Grandi’s previously tense heart.
Captain Grandi believed that the old chief, as a tribal leader, should understand how much trouble their deaths would cause the entire tribe.
If things went wrong, the entire tribe would have to be buried with them, although Captain Grandi felt that the lives of those natives were far less important than his own.
"Chief, I am willing to believe in your character!" Captain Grandi warned the Old Chief outside the room in a plain tone: "But I also hope you won’t deceive me! Deceiving me will come at a heavy cost!"
"Honorable guest, please believe us! Our Enthuya Tribe truly wants to submit!" The Old Chief spoke to Captain Grandi with sincere tones.
"Alright! I believe you!"
Captain Grandi put away his revolver, then slowly walked to the door and opened it.
At this moment, the Old Chief was hunched over nervously standing at Captain Grandi’s door, and behind him was a group of village tribesmen holding torches.
The appearance of Captain Grandi made the Old Chief’s tense face under the firelight show a faint smile again.
"Chief, what exactly happened just now?" Captain Grandi stepped out of the room and loudly questioned the Old Chief.
"Respectable sir, it was actually a misunderstanding!" The Old Chief tried to explain to Captain Grandi.
"I don’t think it was a misunderstanding!" Captain Grandi loudly rebuked the Old Chief, "Your tribesmen sneaked around the room where we reside, were you planning to attack us!"
"No! No!" The Old Chief wanted to shake his head trying to explain something.
Suddenly, a bunch of gibberish sounds came from behind the Old Chief, immediately attracting Captain Grandi’s attention; he looked carefully, and not far in front of him, there were a few people kneeling.
If Grandi’s guess was correct, these people should be the masterminds behind this "assassination."
"Chief, were they the ones loitering at the door?" Captain Grandi pointed to the people kneeling and asked the Old Chief.
The Old Chief pondered for a moment, then nodded and replied to Captain Grandi, "It was them!"
"Why did they want to assassinate us?" Captain Grandi asked the Old Chief again.
"They were not assassinating, just..." The Old Chief tried to defend those kneeling.
"Chief, I am asking why they wanted to assassinate!" Captain Grandi sternly emphasized.
Seeing Captain Grandi unwilling to let go, the Old Chief had to tell Captain Grandi that the reason they tried to kill him was to avenge someone killed by Captain Grandi.
"Alright! Now I know!" Captain Grandi nodded.
Just when the Old Chief thought Grandi was going to let them go, Grandi quickly pulled out his revolver and pulled the trigger.
Only a series of "bang bang bang" sounds were heard, and the villagers kneeling on the ground let out painful wails, warm blood flowing from their abdomens.
The Old Chief looked at Captain Grandi in shock, and the surrounding villagers also glared angrily at Captain Grandi.
As the instigator, Captain Grandi yawned and said to the Old Chief: "Chief, you handle the rest! I’m going to rest!"
After speaking, Captain Grandi returned to the room and closed the door again.
The Old Chief standing at the door looked at the blood-flowing tribesmen, tears involuntarily pouring out.
These were all kids the Old Chief watched grow up, and now they died at the hands of outsiders right under his nose.
More critically, the Old Chief himself couldn’t avenge them.
This knife-twisting pain made the Old Chief subconsciously take a few deep breaths.
Surrounding villagers loudly shouted, demanding to kill them all and avenge their fallen comrades.
The chaotic scene lasted for a long time, until the Old Chief loudly shouted "Quiet" in tribal language, causing the surrounding tribesmen to quiet down.
"The reason why they ended up like this is entirely because of their self-inflicted actions! I don’t allow anyone to avenge them for any reason!" The Old Chief’s tone was exceptionally stern, "Anyone who wants to avenge them will be expelled from the tribe! Understood?"
Facing the domineering Old Chief, the originally noisy tribal residents stopped arguing, gazing silently at the Old Chief.
From their eyes, the Old Chief saw their repressed fury.
Thus, the Old Chief solemnly knelt on the ground in the amazed eyes of the tribal villagers and spoke to them, "Dear villagers, I know you all have a raging fire burning within you!
So I beg you in the capacity of the leader of the Entuya Race not to be blinded by the fire."
Seeing this, the surrounding tribesmen hurriedly came forward, wanting to help the Old Chief up.
However, the Old Chief still knelt on the ground and said to them: "If you don’t agree to my request, just let me kneel here until I die!"
Under the Old Chief’s "coercion," the people present had to agree to the Old Chief and let go of their hatred.
Only then did the Old Chief stand up, being helped up by the tribesmen, using a tone of slight compassion to command the villagers to bury the dead decently, and announced that the tribe would raise their children until they grow up (twelve years old).
Moreover, each family of the deceased could receive more food than others.
The extra food will be deducted from the Old Chief’s personal share.
Under the Old Chief’s appeasement, the tribe members suppressed their dissatisfaction.
Then, the Old Chief and the tribe members left.
In the room, Captain Grandi and his team sighed in relief after seeing the disappearing flames.
A team member, with a hint of admiration, said to Captain Grandi, "Mr. Grandi, what you did just now was really impressive! You actually dared to kill them in front of so many people!"
"The reason I did it was mainly to let them know we are not to be trifled with!" Captain Grandi calmly replied to the team member. "When dealing with such indigenous peoples, you must show them your strength.
Otherwise, they won’t feel fear towards you.
Besides, I did it because there are people like the Chieftain!"
"Aren’t you afraid that the Old Chief won’t be able to control the situation?" the team member asked Captain Grandi again.
Captain Grandi shook his head and said to the team member, "This Old Chief, even at an age close to entering the soil, can still firmly control the entire tribe, so he must have some skills!
So I’m not worried about that happening! Well, it’s getting late! We should rest!"
Captain Grandi returned to bed to rest, and after hesitating for a moment, the team member also lay down on the bed.
However, this time the team member hugged his gun to rest.
...
The next morning, the rising sunlight through the window shone on Captain Grandi’s face, awakening him from his sleep.
Captain Grandi got up from bed, opened the door to greet the sunlight, and the tribe members passing by quickly ran to the Old Chief to report the news of Captain Grandi’s awakening.
Upon hearing the news, the Old Chief quickly came to Captain Grandi’s side and said with a smile, "Mr. Grandi, good morning!" 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Your Excellency the Chieftain, good morning!" Captain Grandi also responded with a smile to the Old Chief.
Then, Captain Grandi asked the Old Chief where Major Mira Bo Pulekovic was.
The Old Chief told Captain Grandi that Major Milabu had already followed their tribe’s soldiers to the enemy tribe two hours earlier.
"Ah!" Captain Grandi’s face showed a surprised expression.
"Major Mira Bo Pulekovic specifically asked me not to wake you up! He said for such matters, they were enough!" the Old Chief responded to Captain Grandi again.
"When will they be back?" Captain Grandi asked again.
"If things go smoothly, they should be back by the afternoon! If not..." the Old Chief didn’t finish his sentence.
"Then let’s pray for their successful return!" Captain Grandi responded to the Old Chief.
The Old Chief and Captain Grandi quietly awaited the outcome of the expedition. As the afternoon came, still no news came from the tribe, and both became increasingly anxious as time went by.
At 5 in the afternoon, unable to bear it, they sent someone to check the situation.
The person sent out returned to the tribe around 9 in the evening and reported back to the Old Chief with news of the "expedition" soldiers.
The expedition soldiers had now achieved a great victory and were stationed at the enemy tribe to tally the spoils of war.
"When are they planning to return?" the Old Chief asked the person reporting back to the tribe.
"They said they will return early tomorrow morning!" the person who returned to the tribe answered.
A smile appeared on the Old Chief’s face as he hurriedly ran to inform Captain Grandi about their return the next morning!
After hearing the news, Captain Grandi finally breathed a sigh of relief, and a smile also appeared on his face.
Early the next morning, Captain Grandi and the Old Chief simultaneously appeared at the entrance of the tribe to jointly welcome the triumphant return of the soldiers.
At 9 in the morning, the "expedition" soldiers returned to the tribe.
Together with them, besides the seized spoils of war, there was also a group of villagers from the enemy tribe with their hands tied with hemp ropes.
The defeated lot would serve as slaves for the Enthuya Tribe.
The Old Chief, with a smile on his face, asked a soldier about the specifics of the war, and the soldier responsible for reporting told him that they were able to win the war entirely thanks to the thirty-man squad under Mira Bo Pulekovic.
Mira Bo Pulekovic began shooting with his rifle when the two armies were over 200 meters apart.
After two rounds of shooting, the enemy tribe was already in complete disarray.
Then Mira Bo Pulekovic signaled them to charge, and they followed the command to assault and capture the enemy tribe’s base camp.
After listening to the soldier’s description, the Old Chief nodded and said, "It seems we need to properly thank them!"
And as the Old Chief intended to thank Mira Bo Pulekovic, he was leaning towards Grandi’s ear, whispering to Grandi that they discovered an open-pit mine around the enemy tribe!
