Chapter 861: Chapter 852: Mr. Flaubert

"The Duchy of Tuscany?" Empress Augusta pondered for a moment and then nodded, saying to Jerome Bonaparte, "It is indeed befitting for our cousin to serve as an envoy for this country!"

"That’s right! As the second-largest nation in Central Italy, after the Pope State, having him as an envoy will not disgrace his title of Prince!" Jerome Bonaparte replied to Empress Augusta, "Moreover, it would get him away from Paris!" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

At this point, Jerome Bonaparte paused and, with a hint of apology, said to Augusta, "However, this appointment requires you, as Empress, to convey it for me! It’s really troublesome for you!"

Augusta shook her head and replied to Jerome Bonaparte, "It’s nothing! We shouldn’t even distinguish between each other!

By the way, what do you plan to do about father (referring to Prince Old Mengfuer)?"

"This is simple!" Jerome Bonaparte confidently spoke to Empress Augusta, "Evil people will be dealt with by evil people! I just need to inform my sister, and she will surely help us get rid of that female spy by father’s side!"

Augusta rolled her eyes at Jerome Bonaparte after hearing this, saying irritably, "Can’t you show even a little respect for Sister Mathilde?"

"Impossible!" Jerome Bonaparte shook his head, flatly refusing, "There is absolutely no room for compromise between my sister and me!"

Upon hearing Jerome Bonaparte’s reply, Augusta showed a helpless expression.

"Alright! Time to sleep!" Jerome Bonaparte said as he took off his clothes and extinguished the gas lamp by the bed.

A few moments later, the room was filled with the sound of breathing.

...

At noon the next day, Jerome Bonaparte closed the file in his hand, stood up, and walked to the window overlooking the cloudless sky, then turned around and left the study, heading to the first-floor hall of Tuileries Palace.

Upon seeing Jerome Bonaparte, Bashirio quickly approached him and asked, "Your Majesty, where are you going?"

"Prepare a carriage, I am going to Madam Tilde’s Mansion!" Jerome Bonaparte ordered Bashirio.

"At your command, Your Majesty!" Bashirio hurriedly set to action.

About 10 minutes later, Bashirio appeared again before Jerome Bonaparte to report, "Your Majesty, the carriage is ready!"

"Hm!" Jerome Bonaparte nodded, then boarded the carriage, escorted by Dragoons, heading towards Madam Tilde’s Mansion.

The carriage sped along the road, taking about 15 minutes to arrive near Madam Tilde’s Mansion.

The carriage and the Dragoons stopped at the gate of the mansion, and Jerome Bonaparte stepped out of the carriage, walking slowly inside Madam Tilde’s Mansion.

When Jerome Bonaparte knocked on Mathilde’s Mansion’s door, a maid opened it, saying, "Your Majesty!"

"Is my sister Princess Mathilde inside the mansion?" Jerome Bonaparte asked the maid.

"Your Majesty, the Princess is currently not in the mansion!" The maid reported truthfully to Jerome Bonaparte.

"Then where is she now?" Jerome Bonaparte curiously inquired.

"The Princess should be at the Opera House!" The maid replied unsurely to Jerome Bonaparte.

"Opera House? Who did she go with?" Jerome Bonaparte asked again.

"Mr. Gustave Flaubert!" The maid answered Jerome Bonaparte.

"Him!" Jerome Bonaparte muttered softly and then instructed the maid, "Can you go to the Opera House and bring a message to my sister Mathilde, saying that I have urgent business with her!"

"Of course, Your Majesty!" The maid nodded, responding to Jerome Bonaparte, and then added, "But where should I find you?"

"Right here!" Jerome Bonaparte stomped on the ground beneath him when answering the maid, "Tell Mathilde I’m at her mansion!

If she dares to break the appointment, I will definitely tear down her mansion!"

The maid showed a fearful expression after hearing Jerome Bonaparte’s words.

"Go quickly!" Jerome Bonaparte urged the maid to take action swiftly, while he swaggered into Mathilde’s Mansion and sat on the couch in the living room.

The head maid approached Jerome Bonaparte promptly, asking if he needed anything.

"Bring out the most valuable food you have here!" Jerome Bonaparte arrogantly replied to the head maid, "I’m going to feast heartily today!"

"Yes!" The head maid complied with Jerome Bonaparte’s orders, preparing a fruit plate and coffee.

Meanwhile, the maid from Mathilde’s Mansion swiftly reached the Opera House’s entrance via carriage.

The Opera House was bustling, with many gentlemen dressed in elegant outfits and ladies in lavish gowns leaving hand in hand.

The maid, newly arrived from the carriage, looked anxiously at the crowd, hoping to find Princess Mathilde’s whereabouts.

After a while, the maid found Princess Mathilde, who was at this moment walking out of the Opera House arm in arm with Gustave Flaubert.

Seeing this, the maid hurriedly ran up to Princess Mathilde and said to her, "Your Highness!"

Princess Mathilde studied the maid for a moment, then asked, "What happened?"

The maid glanced at Gustave Flaubert but did not speak.

Seeing the situation, Gustave Flaubert had no choice but to let go of Princess Mathilde’s hand and sensibly walked away.

Only then did the maid approach Princess Mathilde and said, "Your Highness, His Majesty Jerome Bonaparte is now waiting for you to return at the mansion!"

"Go tell him! I don’t have time!" Princess Mathilde commanded the maid.

"His Majesty said if you do not return, he will tear down your mansion!" the maid responded to Princess Mathilde again.

"He dares!" Princess Mathilde shouted at the maid like a hedgehog with bristled quills.

The gentlemen around cast puzzled and curious glances at Princess Mathilde, prompting her to lower her voice and ask the maid, "Did he say anything else besides this? Why is he looking for me?"

The maid shook her head and answered Princess Mathilde, "His Majesty did not say! He just asked me to call you back!"

"Jerome, that guy!" Mathilde Bonaparte muttered softly, then looked up toward Gustave Flaubert in the distance, "Wait for me!"

Princess Mathilde walked up to Gustave Flaubert to bid him farewell.

Gustave Flaubert displayed an understanding expression on his face, "Your Highness, you don’t need to mind me! I can go back by myself!"

"I’m truly sorry!" Princess Mathilde apologized to Gustave Flaubert once again.

Ultimately, Gustave Flaubert and Princess Mathilde left each other with reluctance.

Upon returning to the mansion from the Opera House, Princess Mathilde was furious to see His Majesty Jerome Bonaparte lounging leisurely on the sofa, eating fruit platter and reading a newspaper.

She hurriedly approached Jerome Bonaparte, gritted her teeth, and "threatened" him, "What pressing matter did you summon me for? If not, you’re doomed!"

Upon speaking, Princess Mathilde theatrically waved her fist.

"It’s like this!" Jerome Bonaparte shared with Mathilde the news that their father’s mistress was a British spy, and Mathilde’s face showed the same shocked expression.

"Sister, the task of splitting up Father is entrusted to you!" Jerome Bonaparte patted Princess Mathilde’s shoulder and said.

"Why me!" Princess Mathilde retorted to Jerome Bonaparte with a face of resistance, "You should be able to as well!"

"Because you have experience in this area!" Jerome Bonaparte reasoned confidently with Princess Mathilde, "If it were me, people would definitely be surprised! A dignified Emperor of the Empire couldn’t tolerate a mistress; it wouldn’t be good for my reputation!

But it’s different for you. You’ve already helped Father dispel many coquettish figures!

Getting rid of one more wouldn’t be anything bad!"

"You..." Princess Mathilde pointed at Jerome Bonaparte, unable to speak for a long time, before countering, "I did it for our family’s sake back then!"

"Now, also please for my sake! Dispelling that British spy!" Jerome Bonaparte clasped his hands pleadingly to Princess Mathilde, "Please!"

Princess Mathilde hesitated for a moment, then replied to Jerome Bonaparte, "I can, but I need you to promise me one condition!"

"What condition!" Jerome Bonaparte asked Princess Mathilde.

"I have a friend, Gustave Flaubert... can you..." Princess Mathilde hinted to Jerome Bonaparte.

Jerome Bonaparte nodded quickly to Princess Mathilde, "Rest assured! The Empire’s review won’t extend to Mr. Flaubert!

If his reputation could be enhanced further, then he would be invited to the French Academy!

Can that be done?"

"It can!" Princess Mathilde nodded to Jerome Bonaparte.

"I’ll leave Father to you then!" Jerome Bonaparte responded to Mathilde and then stuffed the last slice of orange into his mouth before swaggering off.

Princess Mathilde looked at the messy table and shook her head, muttering to herself, "Really!"

...

Returning to Tuileries Palace, Jerome Bonaparte met Empress Augusta, who informed him: Pierre Bonaparte’s wife had already convinced her husband to accept the request to become ambassador to Florence.

"That’s great!"
