Chapter 55: Battling the Aspect!

"Hydra," Jax immediately said calmly, eyes never leaving the charging Divine Aspect, "handle the Knights, I’ll take care of this Beast,"

The Dragoness’ response came instantly, a savage grin splitting her features as her mana surged outward like a living storm,

"With pleasure."

The moment the words left her mouth, Hydra moved.

~BOOM~BOOM~BOOM!~

She launched herself sideways, wings snapping open with explosive force as she tore through the suppression field by sheer physical dominance, leaving sonic booms in her wake.

Light screamed as her passage distorted the formation’s edge, several sigils flickering violently as her draconic mass crossed their boundary.

She hit the Holy Knights like a living siege engine.

Meanwhile, Jax stepped forward alone.

The Divine Aspect of Excision charged, each step fracturing the ground, radiant claws carving molten grooves into stone. Its bladed wings flared outward, runes along their edges igniting as it prepared to strike.

Instead of drawing his sword, Jax lifted his hand to the monster’s attack instead, causing them to clash as the Aspect swung a massive forelimb down in a cleaving arc, divine runes blazing as judgement condensed into a single annihilating strike.

The air screamed as the blow descended, space itself compressing beneath its weight.

~BOOM!~

However, Jax caught it.

His palm meeting the descending claw, golden demonic sigils erupting outward as raw authority slammed into divine law. The impact detonated like a bomb, a shockwave ripping outward in all directions, flattening nearby scaffolding and blasting loose stone into the air.

The mine entrance collapsed behind them in a thunderous roar and the entire environment shook violently while the Aspect skidded back several meters, claws carving through solid rock.

Jax exhaled slowly, boots sinking slightly into fractured stone. His arm hummed with power, muscles coiled but unstrained.

"So this is a Demon Killer, how cool," he said, voice almost thoughtful.

The Aspect answered with a roar that shook the heavens.

Light erupted from its chest, a concentrated beam of divine annihilation lancing straight toward him. The beam tore through the air, vaporizing everything it touched, leaving glassed stone in its wake.

~BOOM~BOOM!~

Jax vanished, teleporting away while the beam missed his prior locations by inches, carving a molten canyon across the battlefield.

"Over here dickhead," Jax muttered as he reappeared above the Aspect, gravity bending slightly around him as he brought his heel down in a brutal downward kick.

~BOOM!~

The impact drove the creature into the ground. Stone exploded outward as the Aspect was smashed into a newly formed crater, divine armor cracking audibly under the force. Jax landed lightly at the crater’s edge, already moving.

He wasn’t trying to kill it. He was trying to learn about it.

Every clash sent information back through his senses, how its mana regenerated, how divine authority circulated through its frame, where the Goddess Kayle’s influence was strongest, where it was weakest.

He could feel the structure of the spell that created it, layered, redundant, reinforced against corruption and soul manipulation.

Impressive.

The Aspect surged back up, wings slicing outward in a cross-shaped arc. Blades of light tore through the air, screaming toward him from multiple angles.

Jax raised his forearm.

Dark-gold barriers snapped into existence, fractal shields layered with demonic runes. The light blades slammed into them, detonating in a cascade of explosions that rocked the battlefield.

Several shields shattered and Jax slid back a step, but all that did was make his smile widen slightly.

"Good," he murmured. "You might actually last long enough for this test to be successful,"

Meanwhile, as those two were battling, Hydra’s battlefield was no less violent.

The Holy Knights had fully reorganized, their formation tightening as secondary sigils flared beneath their feet. Light surged upward, weaving itself into a towering lattice that encompassed them all.

"Formation Delta!" the captain roared. "Blessing convergence!"

The air rang as divine blessings slammed into the Knights simultaneously.

Armor glowed brighter. Weapons hummed with lethal resonance. Halo-like constructs formed behind several elites, reinforcing their strikes and bolstering their defenses. The Goddess of Light’s presence pressed down heavily, her favor unmistakable.

Hydra laughed and surged forward, her form fully draconic now, emerald scales gleaming as mana thundered around her. She inhaled sharply, chest expanding, and exhaled annihilation.

A torrent of corrosive emerald dragonfire washed over the formation, the flames infused with abyssal venom and raw elemental dominance. Light and poison collided violently, explosions rippling across the Knights’ defensive barriers.

Several Knights screamed as their shields failed, bodies dissolving into motes of light and ash, but the formation held firm.

Holy spears of condensed radiance launched upward, slamming into Hydra’s chest and wings. They detonated on impact, blasting chunks of scales loose and forcing her back midair.

She snarled, pain flashing briefly through her bond with Jax.

"Oh, you fight back," she growled. "How rude."

She twisted midair, wings beating hard as she slammed down among them.

The ground cratered again.

Hydra’s claws swept outward, tearing through shield walls, crushing Knights into the earth. Her tail whipped around in a brutal arc, smashing through enchanted armor and sending bodies flying like broken dolls.

The captain raised his blade, light surging as he slashed downward.

A column of divine light slammed into Hydra’s side, forcing a roar from her throat as she staggered.

"Hold formation!" he shouted. "It bleeds! It can be killed!"

Hydra’s eyes burned brighter as she heard that,

"So can you."

Mana exploded outward from her body as ancient draconic runes ignited along her scales. A counter-formation took shape instinctively, a dragon’s battle aura amplifying her physical might, regeneration, and resistance.

She lunged again, faster this time and the Knights met her head-on. Light and shadow clashed in a storm of violence, the battlefield consumed by detonations, roars, and screams.

Back at the crater, the Divine Aspect struck again towards Jax, moving differently this time as its body blurred as divine authority rewrote its own momentum, appearing behind Jax in a flash of radiant displacement. Its jaws opened wide, scripture blazing as it bit down with a force meant to sever soul from body.

Jax twisted, barely avoiding the full bite as light grazed his shoulder. The anti-demonic enchantments bit deep, eating at his mana like acid. He hissed softly, eyes narrowing.

"So that’s how you’re meant to do it. You guys put a-lot of time into this huh, maybe I need to get a bit serious," Jax said, stepping back as his golden demonic energy flared, forcibly purging the corruption, his mana regenerating instantly.

The Aspect didn’t give him any extra time. It pressed the attack relentlessly, claws, wings, beams of annihilation raining down in an unbroken assault. Each strike shook the land, the mine collapsing further with every exchange.

Jax moved with precision, blocking, redirecting, countering, but he was no longer casual. He was serious now.

Finally, he stopped retreating, the next claw came down, Jax caught it again, and crushed it.

Divine armor buckled as his grip tightened, abyssal force surging through his arm. With a sharp twist, he ripped the limb free entirely, divine energy screaming as the severed appendage dissolved into light.

The Aspect howled, the sound shaking the clouds.

Jax stepped forward, eyes blazing.

"You’re strong," he said evenly. "But you’re still a tool."

He raised his hand.

Reality darkened.

Demonic authority surged outward, no longer restrained, forcing its way through the suppression field by sheer overwhelming dominance. The ground trembled as shadows deepened, mana screaming as opposing laws collided.

"And tools," Jax continued, "can be broken."

The Divine Aspect reared back, wings flaring, preparing one final annihilating charge.

Behind him, Hydra roared as she tore the captain in half, the Holy Knight’s light finally extinguished as the formation destabilized, sigils collapsing one by one as the battle neared its end.
