Chapter 191: Chapter 191 Current State

"Three weeks, it’s been three weeks since I was teleported, for me, it was just days. I guess the teleportation did mess with my perception of time, so what is the situation on the ground?" Xavier asked.

The general looked at his face as both of them walked forward; if she didn’t know better, she would think Xavier was part of the upper echelon in the army. Xavier was just like his father.

"The demons have been launching attacks almost every day, I’m sure they’re going to attack again. The other kingdoms have been reduced to ash." The general spoke as she led Xavier to a small house close to the walls.

She pushed the door open, and both of them stepped in while Star stood outside the house. A table was in the center of the room, while chairs and three beds were at each corner.

"To be close to the wall, this is where two other generals and I have been sleeping for a while now...I have a question shouldn’t you visit your home, or your friends?"

"I’ll do that later, have you come in contact with the Demon Queen?"

"Demon Queen? Is that the commander of the demons?" The general asked.

"During the first attack, a dragon flew above the capital, burning everything. Did you see who was in the dragon?"

"No, it ultimately left after the destruction, someone also tried to attack the palace, two of the Royal knights died in the process"

"Someone, is it a beastkin girl?"

"Yes, how did you know?" The general asked.

"We came across her on her way to the palace, but she was stopped by Lilith, the beastkin in my house, wait...is she dead?" Xavier asked.

"I have no idea, as the palace was safe, we were instructed to stop the attack. I don’t think I’ve gone past this area for weeks now." The general spoke as the door to the room was opened.

Two more females walked into the room and stood there staring at Xavier. They had heard from the others that Xavier was back, as they all thought he was dead.

They saw how Xavier’s father was devastated when he heard the news, and charged to the Frontlines where he killed off demons, but he was found dead at the end of the battle with a black sword stuck in his heart.

Now Xavier was back alive, the reason he lost control was that his only child had been killed.

"Xavier, you should go visit your mother, why didn’t you send him away? Why bring him back here, send him back, at least now we..."

"Why didn’t she send me away?" Xavier cut her off before she could finish, "You think I don’t know my father is dead? I was trying to get a good idea of where we stand, and you’re telling her to send me away. Why don’t you try it?" Xavier spoke as he turned around and faced the general.

She saw the look on Xavier’s face and knew she wasn’t talking to a boy anymore; his eyes alone were enough to scare anyone, as he looked at her like he could kill her at any time he wanted.

The room went quiet after Xavier spoke. None of them could say anything for a few seconds as Xavier’s eyes were fixed on the general.

This wasn’t a time for him to lose control, but the weight of it all was catching up with him. He was supposed to defeat a demon army capable of wreaking this much damage on a kingdom.

The general he had snapped at lowered her gaze slightly, not in anger, but in understanding. She wasn’t afraid of Xavier, no matter how he looked, she knew he was just angry.

The first general cleared her throat and spoke again, her tone calmer.

"We’re tired, Xavier. Everyone is. The wall has been holding, but barely. It’s been damaged more times than we can count. We repair it during the night and fight during the day. Some days, we don’t even finish repairs before the next attack starts." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Xavier listened without interrupting. His fists were clenched, but his mind was focused, now that he was here, it was beginning to sound even more impossible for him.

"How many soldiers does Avalon have?" he asked.

"Less than half of what we started with," she replied.

"Some died, some are injured, and some... just can’t fight anymore. They’re exhausted. Mentally and physically, they’ll join the battle in due time, since we’re at war, it isn’t really a choice"

Xavier nodded slowly. He had expected that; he also knew all the students in the academy would have joined the army, but he didn’t see anyone he had known earlier, so they must be somewhere else.

"What about the barrier?" he asked next.

"It’s still active but turned off that’s the reason the wall is being repaired," the general said, "The crystal is unstable. If the demons launch a full assault with strong mages again, there’s a chance it could fail. We’re just buying time, nothing more."

Xavier walked toward the table and placed both hands on it, leaning forward.

"What about the enemy base?" he asked.

That caught their attention immediately.

"We sent a scouting party three days ago," the other general, who hadn’t spoken, replied. "Elite scouts only. They’ve been sending signals back every night. They believe they’re close."

"Close to what?" Xavier asked.

"The main encampment. Possibly where the enemies are being summoned from, we believe the leader of the demons is there," she said. "But the closer they get, the weaker their signals become. We don’t know if that’s because of distance... or interference."

Xavier straightened his back.

"If they find it, are you planning to strike?" he asked.

The generals exchanged looks.

"With the army in this condition?" one of them said honestly. "A direct attack would be risky. If we move too many soldiers away from the wall, Avalon will be exposed."

"That’s why we are preparing a small team of skilled mages and sword users to attack, once the enemy is discovered the team will be dispatched"
