Chapter 26: Chapter 26

Eric had caramel-toned skin, dark messy hair, and sharp brown eyes. He's about 6'2 tall. He was rocking a black trench coat over a dark-patterned Hawaiian shirt, paired with black jeans and sturdy boots. He was dressed like almost like a younger version of William butcher from The Boys.

Me and Eric had a thing every time we met, we tried to one-up each other with impressions, mostly accents. Today, he was going full British, which wasn't exactly fair, considering he was born and raised in England before moving to Nigeria at 14.

He strolled over with that cocky swagger, eyes locked on me. "Oi, what took ya so bloody long?" he said, stopping right in front of me.

"I didn't hear the—"

He cut me off with a raised finger, leaning in over my shoulder. He took a deep sniff, then smirked. "You smell like sex, ya cheeky wanker... You finish?"

Before I could even get a word in, he just walked past me, heading straight for the car.

I shook my head, grinning. "Good to see you too, mate."

Lucky for me, he didn't push further because, well... he was right. I did just have sex.

We got into the car, and Eric immediately wrinkled his nose.

"Oi, try not to touch anything with your cum-stained hands, eh? Car's new."

I shot him a look. "Whose car is this, anyway?"

He shrugged, gripping the wheel with a smirk. "Takin' it for a test drive, see if she's worth keepin'.

Like a bird on a first date... Gotta make sure she don't rattle when you take 'er for a proper ride."

I scoffed at his response and said. "Rich kid problems, I cannot relate to that,".

After a moment of driving, we passed the turn to his house. I pointed it out, but Eric just waved a hand dismissively.

"My dad's got visitors," he said. "We'll be goin' somewhere else."

"So, which one of the four hot sisters did ya knock up, then?"

I froze. Didn't see that one coming. Thought he'd forgotten all about it.

I considered lying, but this was Eric we both knew he'd sniff out the lies like a bloodhound.

I sighed, rubbing my temples. "It was Esther. And yeah... we'd just finished when you rang the bell."

"Bloody hell!" He let out a laugh, shaking his head. "Didn't think you had it in ya."

Then he grinned at me, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Look at you... makin' me proud, ya filthy little slag."

I smiled, really proud in that moment, hearing him compliment me like that felt good.

We drove for about an hour before arriving at an arcade. The arcade was alive with flashing lights and the chaotic symphony of electronic beeps, clinks, and muffled laughter. Kids, teens and even some adults crowded around machines, their faces illuminated by the glow of pixelated battles. The scent of buttered popcorn, soda and pizza filled the air.

We stepped inside, blending into the noise. Eric stuffed his hands into his jacket pockets, eyes scanning the room like he was searching for someone.

"This place is loud as hell," I muttered.

"That's the idea," Ethan said.

We both got a bottle of soda before heading further inside the arcade. He guided me towards a row of racing games. Tossing a few notes into a racing game. The screen flickered to life, offering him a choice of sleek digital cars. He climbed into the seat, motioning for me to take the one next to him. "No one pays attention to conversations in a place like this."

I hesitated, then slid into the seat. "So? Why are we here?"

Eric gripped the plastic steering wheel, pretending to focus on the countdown timer. "Are you familiar with the name Ashley Savage?." He asked. Never taking his eyes off the timer.

I inhaled sharply, my fingers drumming against the dashboard as I tried to place the familiar name. "Yeah... He's running for the governor's office?"

Eric smirked and pressed the gas pedal harder, making the engine roar. "Yep, that's him."

"Are you familiar with his corruption history?" The words rushed out. "Fraud, bribery, backroom deals the man's been drowning in corruption for years. Every time someone tries to expose him, the story just disappears. He throws money at his problems and poof they're gone."

I shifted in my seat, watching Eric's face carefully. Something in his expression made my stomach tight. "Okay... Where's this leading to, Eric?" I took a nervous sip of my drink.

"Kenny is Mr. Savage's son," Eric said quietly.

The words hit me like a punch to the gut. I choked on my drink, coughing as the realization sank in.

"Oh shit," I thought, relief washing over me as I thought about what would have happened if I had fought back. One punch thrown at a powerful politician's son, and I might have been the next story to disappear.

Another thought hit me. "That son of a bitch. I always knew his father was a big man, but I didn't think he was that big," I said, shaking my head. "Good thing I didn't fight back... I'd be neck deep in a lawsuit right now."

Eric paused the game and turned to me, a smirk playing on his lips. The look on his face had mischief written all over it, and my stomach dropped I knew whatever came next, I wasn't going to like it.

"You're not going to be in a lawsuit, but Mr. Savage will be," he said.

"What?"

"We're going to blackmail him, use the evidence of his son punching you in the face as leverage."

I don't know what came over me, but I burst out laughing. I laughed so hard I started choking on my drink, slapping my knees and doubling over.

"I'm... I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." I wheezed between laughs. "You said *what*?"

Eric didn't say a word. He just stared at me with a deadly serious expression that made it clear he wasn't joking.

My laughter died in my throat. I cleared it awkwardly. "Ahem... You're joking, right? Right?" My voice trembled as fear crept in.

Eric's face split into a devilish smile. "Do I sound like I'm tellin' ya a bloody bedtime story?"
