Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 236: This Is About Your Mother
Arielle pretended to be deaf when Andrea mentioned that Duke Pellington would soon marry the woman of his heart. Arielle’s eyes felt hot as if she was about to cry, but she tried her best to brace herself to endure the pressure.
She tried not to listen to what they were saying. She noticed how beautifully the meat was cooked that night. The colors of the vegetables looked pretty because they were cooked at the right temperature.
Arielle managed to shift her focus so that she no longer felt pressure in her stomach.
"Arielle? Arielle?" called someone.
Someone elbowed her, making Arielle turn around.
"Andrea is calling you," whispered Aron, one of her older brothers who sat beside her.
Arielle now turned to Andrea, who was clearly forcing a smile.
"You didn’t hear my call?" she asked still faking a friendly tone.
"Ah, I’m sorry Andrea. I was daydreaming a little earlier," Arielle replied quietly.
Archie patted Andrea on the shoulder, saying that she shouldn’t take out her anger at a family dinner, especially in front of Duke Pellington, who was staring at Arielle right now.
Andrea took a deep breath and smiled back at Arielle. "I’m just saying that this Duke Pellington was very instrumental in bringing you back to Nieverdell. Duke Pellington is the one who has given you a pair of wolves to breed so you can return home sooner."
Arielle wanted to interrupt with the excuse that she was going home because she was waiting for a formal proposal from Ronan, but she didn’t say anything in the end. She could only nod.
"Thank you for your help, Duke Pellington. I will remember it well."
The man smiled at Arielle, making the girl feel uncomfortable.
"With pleasure, princess. I will always be there to help if Princess Arielle needs anything," he replied softly.
Alexis almost laughed but held it in. It was clear that the old man really wanted his sister. From the man’s hungry gaze, Alexis immediately knew from whom Arielle got the dress.
Likewise, Archie was disgusted by the attitude of the old man, who already had two wives but still wanted someone much younger than him. He didn’t care that his first daughter was almost the same as Arielle’s age. Disgusting.
Alexis watched Duke Pellington, who couldn’t take his eyes off Arielle.
"Duke Pellington," Alexis called the man.
"Yes, Your Highness?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Regarding our agreement some time ago, I think we need to talk about it again because there was such a sudden change of plans."
"Plan? Has something happened again?"
"Alexis, we can continue that conversation tomorrow," said King Hugo, who didn’t want Alexis to open his mouth about their festival night operation in front of his other siblings.
Alexis, who intended to distract Duke Pellington from Arielle, just smiled and nodded. They finished dinner. One by one, they left the dining hall, Arielle could only wait to be the last one to come out, considering she didn’t have any status.
Arielle came out and felt her chest getting tighter due to the food that entered her stomach. Sasha and Tania, who had been waiting all this time, immediately approached the princess. But they had only stepped a few feet when a man suddenly appeared in front of Arielle.
"Good evening, Princess."
Arielle’s body instantly stiffened. "G-good evening, Duke Pellington," said Arielle back.
Tania and Sasha immediately became tensed hearing Arielle’s name mentioned. Both had initially thought that Duke Pellington, who proposed to Princess Arielle, was a young man.
The man was quite tall but not as tall as Ronan. Sasha could see some white hair, which was slightly obscured by his blonde hair.
"Can we talk for a minute?" asked Duke Pellington politely.
Arielle turned to Tania, who just looked down. Sasha shook his head, forbidding Arielle to talk to the man.
"Only a while. I have some important things to say."
"B-but it’s getting late."
"It’s about your mother."
Her mother? The man smiled briefly as Arielle’s eyes sparkled. "M-maybe we can talk for a bit."
Tania watched Duke Pellington carefully. She didn’t remember the man from her past. Tania had great suspicion because no one had ever known Arielle’s mother.
Maybe King Hugo or some of the residents in the palace that had existed before Arielle was born had met the woman, but they chose to keep their mouths shut.
Even Tania chose not to say a word about Arielle’s mother.
"Then how about we talk in the garden for a bit?" said Duke Pellington, who held out his hand for Arielle to hold.
Arielle, who was very curious now, couldn’t help but accept the helping hand. Tania stayed where she was. Only Sasha followed not far from the two.
"Could that little kid not follow us?" asked Duke Pellington, gesturing to Arielle to ask Sasha not to follow them.
"B-but Sasha..."
"I promise we’ll talk in the open, so you don’t have to worry. Your servant can see you from a distance. I just need some space to say something."
Arielle remained doubtful. There was fear in her, as Sasha withdrew, leaving her alone with Duke Pellington. The girl took a deep breath and then nodded. They walked toward the palace gardens and stopped at a bench by the fountain.
The place was very open. The plants that surrounded the garden were only up to their waist, so Tania and Sasha could still see Arielle and Duke Pellington’s whereabouts.
Duke Pellington invited Arielle to sit on a park bench. The girl clutched her chest as she felt the corset pull down as she sat down.
"You look very beautiful tonight," said Duke Pellington making Arielle even more uncomfortable.
"Duke Pellington, regarding my mother. What do you know about my mother?" asked Arielle without further ado.
The night was getting late. She wanted to change clothes immediately, and also, she did not want to linger alone with Duke Pellington.
"About Miss Mirabelle..."
"Mirabelle?"
"Your mother’s name is Mirabelle."
Arielle’s chest felt tight when she heard her mother’s name for the first time. Such a beautiful name, and now Arielle was guessing the appearance of the woman named Mirabelle. The woman who gave birth to her...
"Mirabelle... I bought her at the slave market," the duke continued his words.
Arielle looked up to see Duke Pellington talking about his mother. Her mother was... a slave?
