Chapter 1039: Chapter 1038: The Man on My Mind Day and Night

After getting ready, she planned to go out. If that young lady wanted to come down for dinner, she would definitely come down on her own; there was no need for her to go upstairs and call her with gritted teeth.

However, after she and Shi Aoju finished this delicious meal, it was likely Su Jiuyi would never be allowed back into this house again.

Even in death, one must have dignity. There wasn’t much to take from her room anyway, and if they wanted to throw it out, that was fine with her.

Su Jiuyi picked up the plate with a smile and turned around, only to unexpectedly see Shi Aoju standing at the doorway.

He leaned lazily against the door, with a noble and imposing demeanor. Although she hadn’t seen him for a few days, the contours of his face seemed a bit more gaunt, and the fatigue between his brows was more pronounced. Yet, he was still so handsome, so perfect and unabashedly arrogant.

The person she thought about day and night suddenly appeared before her, staring at her with intense eyes. Su Jiuyi’s body instantly stiffened in place, and the curve of her lips slowly fell.

The air around them grew a bit heavier from the deadlock between the two, and Su Jiuyi’s fingers gripped the edge of the plate tightly.

She didn’t know what kind of expression she wore when looking at Shi Aoju, only that his gaze always made her instinctively want to escape this place of right and wrong.

As if being strangled, Su Jiuyi felt even breathing was becoming difficult.

Noticing her unusual attire today, Shi Aoju furrowed his brows and looked at her, his calm eyes tinged with a layer of mist.

"Where are you going?"

With one hand in his pocket, he approached her step by step. His intimidating aura was unaltered, reminding Su Jiuyi of how it felt when they first met.

She subconsciously retreated until her thigh bumped against the edge of the dining table.

No escape.

Shi Aoju’s face drew closer to hers, just like before in the office. Su Jiuyi instinctively tilted her head and closed her eyes.

"Here..." Shi Aoju picked up two slices of bread stuck together with fruit jam from the table, opened it, and said, "Is filled with wasabi, right?"

"Eh!" Su Jiuyi looked at him in surprise, her expression seemingly asking how he knew.

A hint of amusement hidden in his eyes, he said slowly, "You can tell just by the smell."

Su Jiuyi lowered her head, feeling the awkwardness of being caught red-handed in the act.

"You still haven’t answered my question." His eyes, slightly narrowed, held an irresistible force, with depthless pupils emitting a dangerous aura.

Su Jiuyi was so bewildered by his gradual approach that she completely forgot what he had asked.

As if reading the doubt in her eyes, Shi Aoju repeated each word, "Where are you going."

Admittedly, he never had this much patience with anyone else.

"I... just going out for a walk." She wasn’t used to Shi Aoju speaking to her so up close, their posture was very intimate.

"Oh?" Shi Aoju raised an eyebrow, took the plate from her hand, and placed it on the table behind, bridging the distance between them again, "With whom?"

The warm breath gently brushed Su Jiuyi’s face, as the delightful faint aroma of tobacco from the man overwhelmed her. The chords in her mind snapped completely, leaving her with just enough rationality to support herself against the table behind her, trying to maintain a certain distance from Shi Aoju.
