Chapter 1007: Chapter 1006: Legs Asleep

Su Jiuyi glanced around and found that the only people gathered around the campfire were Qin Shaobai, Song Zhike, and Qi Jingren, and not Su Manning.

"She’s resting in the tent." Song Zhike explained to her after seeing her expression, "I didn’t expect both of you sisters to have such poor physiques."

These words left Su Jiuyi speechless, but in fact, her physique was somewhat better than Su Manning’s, since she had been fending for herself all these years.

As for Su Manning, she had truly lived a life of luxury for too long, always being catered to before and after meals in the Su Family. For Song Zhike to have brought her up to the mountain top, she must be utterly exhausted now.

"Everyone come help, the smoke is too choking." Qi Jingren was waving a fan desperately to clear the smoke blowing towards her, but still ended up with teary eyes.

Qin Shaobai took the fan from her hand, turning it over to examine it: "I can’t believe these kinds of fans still exist nowadays."

Qi Jingren sat nearby, tidying her long hair that had scattered over her shoulders, and said, "I picked it up from the woods over there; I guess someone used it before."

Qin Shaobai frowned and joked, "This is practically Jigong’s fan."

"Mr. Qin, have you ever used a fan..." Qi Jingren glanced at him sideways, "But it’s amazing you actually know Jigong."

Shi Aoju picked up a fish spear next to the tent, studied it for a while, and eventually asked Song Zhike: "Got a fishing rod?"

Song Zhike waved his hand and said, "Make do with this, it was also picked up."

Su Jiuyi still hadn’t adjusted to the cold temperature; she was squatting by the campfire rubbing her frozen hands. Lowering her head slightly, she could smell the pleasant fragrance from Shi Aoju’s jacket, different from the usual enticing cigarette smell, feeling rather refreshing.

The sunset hung wavering on the edge of the mountain, with its warm yellow rays increasingly unable to withstand the overpowering night, eventually swallowed up, leaving behind a hint of residual warmth. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Su Jiuyi, who had fallen asleep against the backpack for a short while, woke up. She blinked her drowsy eyes and happened to see several fishes of varying sizes hanging on the wooden rack before her.

"I can’t believe there are live fish on such a cold mountain peak." Song Zhike, involved in the fishing, pouted. He thought most of the fish in the lake would be frozen dead, but surprisingly, they had caught some.

Su Jiuyi shifted her gaze and found Su Manning had somehow come out of the tent, now sitting attentively beside Shi Aoju watching him grill fish.

"Jiuyi, you’re awake?" Qi Jingren was the first to notice her, rummaging through a backpack, surrounded by a heap of snacks which seemed to have been taken out of her bag.

"Mm." Su Jiuyi tried to stand up, but maintaining the same position for a long time caused a sudden muscle spasm, pulling her back again.

"What’s wrong?" Shi Aoju thought her foot injury had flared up again, frowned, tossed aside the stick he held, and briskly strode toward her.

His tall shadow blocked the firelight in front of Su Jiuyi, who closed her eyes, trying to adjust the discomfort in her body, but ultimately still failed.

"My leg’s numb." She murmured as she spoke.

Shi Aoju steadied her arm and pulled her up: "Stand up for a while."

Su Jiuyi’s face was half-shadowed and half-lit by the fire, with the blaze reflected in her dark pupils. She stood and hopped a few times, and before long her leg regained strength, though her foot hadn’t completely recovered.
