"This is a cake I made today and brought back a few pieces. I want you to try it." She placed the box on the table and tentatively asked, "Do you want to eat it now?"
Shi Aoju glanced at the box on the table, then said lightly, "Let me check your foot injury first."
Su Jiuyi obediently walked over, lifting her foot for him to examine.
"Did you feel any pain when you went out today?" he asked.
Su Jiuyi shook her head to indicate no.
He gently pressed a few spots on her instep, "Does this hurt?"
"I don’t feel anything," Su Jiuyi said, "I told you, it’s all better, it doesn’t hurt at all."
Shi Aoju tested a few more places, but Su Jiuyi said there was no pain sensation.
Shi Aoju let out a small sound of acknowledgment, then stood up straight and walked towards the bathroom.
Su Jiuyi looked bewilderedly at the bathroom door, until a minute or two later when he returned with a hot towel, did she realize what he was doing.
Shi Aoju folded the towel neatly, then placed it over Su Jiuyi’s instep. The scorching touch made Su Jiuyi instinctively pull her foot back.
"Don’t move." He held her fidgeting ankle, "Apply heat to promote blood circulation."
Hearing him say that, Su Jiuyi didn’t move anymore.
After a while, as the heat gradually dissipated, Shi Aoju released her ankle and said lightly, "Apply it for a bit longer."
Su Jiuyi nodded as she looked at him, then she remembered something and said, "The cake on the table, it’s best to eat it tonight."
Because if kept until the next day, the cake might dry out from being left too long.
Shi Aoju pondered silently. He originally intended to refuse, but seeing her hopeful eyes, he found it hard to say the harsh words.
If he didn’t eat it, she would probably feel very disappointed.

But Shi Aoju furrowed his brow; he truly didn’t like sweets and the cream flavor, and right now the cake in front of him, while visually appealing, had a scent that instinctively made him wrinkle his brow.
