Love You for the Rest of My Life-Chapter 1579: A Friend’s Wife Cannot Be Deceived, I Hope You Understand
"Wife, this isn’t a matter of taste or lack thereof," Nangong Jin frowned and said, "Love is something that’s hard to explain—you never know, he might just happen to like her."
"Impossible." Di Jinxuan denied once more.
Nangong Jin chuckled, touched her head, "Husband won’t argue with you. This sort of thing can only be determined in the end."
"What do you mean, ’in the end’?" Di Jinxuan pouted and looked at Nangong Jin, "In such situations, you should try to persuade him."
"Me, persuade?" Nangong Jin raised an eyebrow, unable to contain his laughter, "Will it be effective if I do?"
"Of course it will," Di Jinxuan replied, "We can’t just let them develop unchecked. A single man and a single woman! Besides, every year the country provides generous compensation for warriors who sacrificed for the nation; second brother doesn’t need to take care of her this way, letting the child call him dad!"
"Sigh," Nangong Jin sighed, "Fine, I’ll find some time to sit down and talk with second brother."
"Alright," Di Jinxuan finally nodded.
While they were chatting away, Di Mingchen and An Xin also sat down, and the waiter respectfully handed them the menu.
An Xin took the menu and first asked Di Mingchen, "Brother Mingchen, take a look at what you’d like to eat?"
"I’m fine with anything." Di Mingchen replied faintly.
"Okay." An Xin nodded, "Let me order for you then?"
"Sure." Di Mingchen responded briefly.
An Xin finished ordering and handed the menu back to the waiter, smiling politely, "That’s all."
"Yes." The waiter took the menu away.
Turning her head, An Xin realized Di Mingchen was watching her, his resolute and striking face devoid of expression. Beneath the lowered brim of his hat, his sharp eyes made her pause involuntarily.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something dirty on my face?"
An Xin asked, covering her face with a hint of shyness.
"An Xin," Di Mingchen stared at her directly, speaking candidly, "There are some things I feel I should tell you. Nini’s father died in the line of duty; he was a national hero, a pride of our military, and she is the descendant of a martyr. From my perspective, I cannot accept her calling another man ’Dad,’ even if that man is me. Therefore, I hope you won’t teach her to call me ’Dad’ anymore."
"No, I’m not—I didn’t teach her." An Xin instantly became a bit tongue-tied, "It’s the child who likes you and wants to call you that."
"No matter how much she likes me, I’m still not her dad. The title ’Dad’ isn’t something that can be given to just anyone. I didn’t refute earlier to save face, but this is a matter of principle. I hope there won’t be a situation like this again in the future."
"I..." An Xin’s eyes reddened, looking at Di Mingchen with some grievance, "In the eyes of the commander, does it mean that since my husband is gone, I no longer deserve to have happiness, and neither does Nini deserve to have a father’s love?"
"These are two separate matters, I hope you understand," Di Mingchen said directly, "An Xin’s father and I shared life-and-death camaraderie. I can take care of you both, but there will never be any romantic involvement. A friend’s wife cannot be betrayed—I hope you understand."
Di Mingchen spoke to An Xin straightforwardly, his tone even, as if he were discussing a matter of business, but very resolute.
"I... didn’t mean it like that." An Xin’s tears were like beads on a broken string, falling in streams, almost amid sobs, "I just hope Nini doesn’t feel sad like I do. I want her to feel that in this world there is someone who loves her, cares for her, and protects her like a father."
