Chapter 229: Chapter 229: Ariel Morris, where are you?

Arlo Seys and Langdon Seal arrived at Elephant Hill almost simultaneously. Just as Arlo was about to get out of the car, his phone rang, displaying the Seys Family’s old residence’s landline.

As soon as he answered, his father’s authoritative voice burst through, "It’s pouring rain over at Elephant Hill, and if you want to look for your friend, at least wait until the rain lets up! This heavy rain is making search and rescue efforts incredibly difficult!"

Arlo pressed his thin lips together, speaking to his father, "I know we can’t use helicopters in this weather for search and rescue! Can you help me mobilize two teams to search on foot in the mountains?"

Evan Seys paused, "Is that friend so important to you? I just called the police station over there about the rain at Elephant Hill—it’s too heavy, prone to landslides. Hiking into the mountains under such pouring rain is dangerous! We can only go in once the rain lightens, considering the safety of the rescue personnel."

Arlo’s voice was indifferent and cold, "Well, that’s it then."

Evan scolded, "Nico said you’re running a fever! You need to come back right now! Even if you’re saving a friend, you must consider your own condition first!"

"The rescue personnel don’t have to go out; I’m not insisting. But I won’t leave her alone." Having said that, Arlo promptly hung up the call. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

He found a plastic bag inside the car and wrapped his phone to prevent it from getting wet.

As Arlo got out of the car, Langdon Seal was also just stepping out. Seeing him, Arlo’s face turned icy, with no intention of greeting him, he quickly slammed the car door shut and intended to venture into the mountains amidst the heavy rain to search and rescue.

"Arlo Seys!" Langdon called out softly, striding to catch up with him.

Arlo paused for a moment, his tone cool, "What is it?"

Langdon held an umbrella and handed another one to him, "The rain is too heavy; use this to keep at least some of it off."

Arlo accepted the umbrella, looking at Langdon with a faint curl of his lips, "Now warm guys like you are quite in demand."

Langdon chuckled deeply, "But I only wish for one person’s heart to be inclined towards me."

Arlo glanced at him, "Then you might not get the chance."

Langdon met his gaze with warmth in his eyes, laughing gently, "Until the very end, who wins or loses is unpredictable." Langdon paused, "You knew her first, but I’ve spent more time with her. In terms of understanding, I’m not inferior to you."

Arlo pressed his lips again, opened the umbrella, shot Langdon a look filled with deeper meaning, then turned around and quickly headed into the mountains.

This could be considered openly laying down the gauntlet, right? Langdon’s words implied he would compete with him for Ariel Morris and wouldn’t give up until the end.

Langdon continued searching in another direction.

The torrential rain made the mountain paths exceptionally slippery, and small streams formed by rainwater relentlessly washed over the muddy ground. The two of them were striving to find that figure in the mountains, and even with umbrellas, the rain being too heavy left them soaked through from the water accumulating on the forest branches and leaves around.

While searching in the mountains with the umbrella, it frequently snagged on the trees and shrubs, obstructing their progress and speed. Arlo deeply pressed his lips together, eyeing the torrential rain with escalating panic and fear. He simply discarded the umbrella, braving the downpour, and frantically searched for Ariel Morris.

His lips were pale, the torrential rain mercilessly drenching his feverish body. Despite the pounding headache and worsening discomfort, he refused to pause even a bit, forcing himself to continue the search in the mountains.

"Ariel Morris! Come out for me! Ariel, where are you?!"

Even though his voice was already a bit hoarse, the only reply he got was the relentless sound of the rain and the echo of his own desperate shouts.

That sense of panic, that helplessness and fear, enveloped him deeply...

Ariel Morris, please be safe, I can’t allow anything to happen to you....
