Chapter 875: Chapter 122 There Are Several Traitors Among Us

West Spring Mountain, temple construction site.

Shen Qingxi stood before the intricately carved, lifelike statue of the Mountain God, which was almost indistinguishable from the real thing, and proudly puffed out her chest.

"I am such a genius!"

"But, Alpha Lord, what’s the point of all this?"

Mogred, standing close by, asked quietly, "You told us not to worship idols, yet here you are crafting a life-sized sculpture of the Mountain God with your own hands. Which answer is the correct one?"

Without turning her head, Shen Qingxi countered, "I told you not to come looking for me—did you obey my orders?"

"The Captain said we must listen to Alpha’s instructions."

"Listen, but don’t obey, right? So ultimately, that’s the essence of it—people only believe the part of the truth they want to believe. The so-called search for answers is nothing more than self-comfort in the end."

"You claim to seek my guidance, but when my opinions clash with your true intentions, you still follow those intentions. Right now, the only reason you’re bowing your head and obeying is because you’ve realized you can’t control me and therefore compromised. Am I wrong?"

"Isn’t that a bit too callous of you to say, Alpha Lord?"

Mogred quietly responded, "That was merely my personal question just now. As for the Captain and the other cultivators, they have always carried out your will, working tirelessly to build this temple. Although West Spring Mountain doesn’t have the most hospitable environment, it’s still far better than Lanton City’s underground sewage systems. At least here, people can survive."

"An ideal promised land—except for the issue of distance, of course."

Shen Qingxi turned around, her gaze piercing into Mogred’s mechanical eyes, and replied softly, "From Lanton to Tianmen is nearly 20,000 kilometers by sea. Along the coastal regions in the Real World, you could easily find a settlement far better suited for survival than Lanton. So why come here looking for Alpha?"

"You’re treating me like a fool, hiding things from me, and yet you complain about my attitude?"

"Hiding what? Hiding intelligence you knew all along?" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Mogred calmly said, "Everyone assumes you’ve been aware of this matter all along, which is why they didn’t dwell on the issue—they were simply awaiting your answer."

"Between Tianmen and Lanton lies a secret, hidden pathway, and you’re the only one who has ever used it. The specifics of the situation are something only you could know."

"We’ve now aided you in building this temple, and if you’re still dissatisfied, feel free to issue further commands to test our loyalty. The Mechanical God Sect is willing to go to any length to earn your favor and convince you to reopen that pathway, to save the destitute masses from their misery."

Shen Qingxi shook her head and said, "I only promised you visas, not pathways."

"Then that must mean we haven’t done enough yet."

"Whatever makes you happy."

Out of the corner of her eye, Shen Qingxi caught a glimpse of a crimson shadow in the distance. Excited, she turned to Mogred and ordered him to stay put before bolting away.

Li Mumu stood atop a high point, admiring the nearly completed temple.

It had to be said—Shen Qingxi truly had a knack for this. At the very least, her skills in civil engineering were a family legacy and perfectly professional.

A perfectly normal temple had been intentionally designed to look like it might get obliterated by Athena’s Sigh any moment.

The construction supervisor was Old Man the Tauren from Olympus, so it wasn’t surprising that the temple boasted an Olympic-style palace design.

The surprising part was that Shen Qingxi had managed to set up an industrial assembly line within a short period, producing the materials needed to construct this temple.

Now, cultivators from the Mechanical God Sect had already used various engineering tools to finish constructing the main structure, leaving the internal decorations to the Dragon Worshippers.

These bizarre Dragon Worshippers were chiseling reliefs into the pristine white marble walls—or at least what appeared to be marble. Li Mumu couldn’t figure out exactly what it was, as there was no record of West Spring Mountain ever producing such high-grade materials.

At the end of the day, the dreamworld offers everything—don’t get too caught up in the Outer Dimension details.

In short, these worshippers were carving scenes showing Mountain God Chu Jiang triumphantly battling demons and monsters, saving thousands of common people from mortal peril.

Li Mumu couldn’t even remember ever experiencing these events.

But that didn’t matter. When devotees conduct their rituals, they rarely concern themselves with the deity’s opinion, essentially just downing hallucinogens with Old Man and, in their befuddled state, making decisions on behalf of the god.

This was the most primitive mode of worshiping Ancient Gods.

It wasn’t that Dragon Worshippers were particularly nostalgic or traditional; in fact, surviving persistent persecution from the Special Service Bureau proved that their teachings were far from outdated.

Only those with more flexible minds, softer knees, and more devious schemes could endure.

The real issue, ironically, was Li Mumu herself.

Li Mumu was too laid-back—she didn’t care for incense offerings nor bothered with the followers who had arbitrarily deified her.

No desire, no vulnerability.

So, they were left racking their brains, endlessly attempting methods to try and win the favor of their god.

Setting up statues and fabricating myths were just the basic tricks.

"Reddy—!"

Out of nowhere, Shen Qingxi barreled into her like a cannonball, directly tackling Li Mumu into her arms, nearly sending her off the cliff. If that happened, she might become the first deity in history to accidentally die in her own backyard.

"Let go! Get lost!"

"I knew you still love me, don’t you?"

"Scram!"

After a struggle of finally peeling Shen Qingxi off her, Li Mumu grumbled, "You look like you’re having a great time here."

"I haven’t had a single happy day!"

Shen Qingxi’s eyes brimmed with tears. "Not only do I have to deal with constant debris, but I’m also being chased around by a bunch of lunatics demanding debts. You have no idea what my days here have been like. You heartless woman, abandoning me here without a care..."

"It wasn’t me who left you here."

"Yeah, yeah, not you. I’ve already come to terms with it. Whatever you say. So, when are we leaving?"

What on earth have you figured out?

Li Mumu gazed at her, utterly bewildered.

"Don’t you need to pack up or make arrangements here first?"

"Absolutely not! Everything I own is on me!"

Normally, crossing from the Real World to the Thousand-Year Dynasty World required waiting for certain special dates, like the first or fifteenth day of the lunar month. Plus, it was usually a one-way trip—returning to the Real World involved passing through the Moat Dimension.

Essentially, like going through customs check.

Recently, however, due to disruptions caused by the Temporal Tide, the barriers between the two worlds had weakened to the point of near irrelevance. The Special Service Bureau had even installed a portal at West Spring Mountain to facilitate travel for its personnel.

I knew it!

Obediently following Li Mumu through the Special Service Bureau’s portal, Shen Qingxi began harboring suspicions as soon as she saw Xia Yubing waiting on the other side.

I knew there had to be a mole between you two—or maybe you’re both moles!
