Love letters are not allowed in the exorcism notebook!-Chapter 841 - 88: Outer Dimension Has All Kinds of Things
Wang Yunxiao now finally knew that this world, covered in ice and snow, was called Hipabolia, also known as the Far North Continent.
The woman in white who had suddenly appeared before him claimed to be a witch living in seclusion in this land.
As for this uninvited woman, Wang Yunxiao didn’t feel the slightest bit of trust towards her.
But now, he had no other choice. Having someone to talk to was still better than stumbling around in the dark alone.
Besides, no matter what, this woman seemed to have a clear mind and normal intelligence and could communicate. That was already good enough.
"How long do we have to travel?"
"In terms of distance, it’s very far, but there’s also a shortcut."
"What’s the difference with the shortcut?"
"The shortcut is more dangerous."
"Then we’ll take the shortcut!"
It’s just a bit more dangerous. As long as it wasn’t a fatal threat, there wasn’t anything to fear.
The witch in white glanced back at Wang Yunxiao and said softly, "Your steps are too heavy. Once we step onto the Net Path, you’ll attract the Spider God’s attention."
Attention is whatever—it’s like having too many fleas; they stop bothering you. Debts pile up, and you stop caring.
However, Wang Yunxiao was still curious. Unable to resist, he asked, "The Spider God you mentioned, and the Net Path—what’s the deal with them exactly?"
The witch in white was silent for a moment before speaking softly: "In the mountains and abysses of the Far North Continent slumber numerous ancient gods. Most of them are indifferent to worldly affairs or exist beyond the boundaries of human understanding. The Spider God Atlach-Nacha is one such ancient god. It resides at the bottom of the Womi Adres Mountains, silently weaving a vast web at the boundary between the Real World and the Phantom Dream Realm."
"This web is the embodiment of the multidimensional Law, and it is said that when the web is fully woven, the Real World and the Phantom Dream Realm will merge into one, becoming a unified whole."
"However, another Ancient God, Bastet, stole what rightfully belonged to the Spider God and redefined the concept of the web."
"Just like how human civilizations harness water for electricity and use fire for energy, the Spider God’s web was transformed into what you now know as the Net Path."
"Physically, it forms a stable bridge between two dimensions, becoming a transportation hub."
"Spiritually, it pierces through the collective subconscious of humanity, connecting everyone’s souls and enabling the sharing of knowledge and thought."
"We are currently within the Net Path. The Spider God has never given up its efforts to reclaim control over it. Even the smallest unusual ripple in this web will draw its attention."
"So if you want to take the shortcut, you’d better be prepared to fight its followers."
"No problem, let’s go."
What’s the big deal? Just some followers—don’t tell me they’re just giant spiders?
Seeing Wang Yunxiao’s nonchalance, the witch in white said nothing further and led him down a rugged path.
At first, it was extremely narrow, barely wide enough for a person. After walking dozens of steps, it suddenly opened up.
As soon as they entered the Net Path, Wang Yunxiao felt something familiar.
Yes, it felt like the underground tunnels he had traversed the first time.
The oppressive sensation was overwhelming, as if he were traveling through the capillaries of a colossal creature.
The air carried a faintly acidic odor, and the ground was layered with spider silk upon spider silk.
He quickly realized that the strange smell was coming from the cocoons hanging above, wrapped tightly in layers of silk.
Those must have been prey captured but not yet fully digested.
Suppressing his curiosity and the urge to save them, Wang Yunxiao refrained from acting. Judging by the style of the remaining weapons and armor fragments scattered on the ground, it didn’t seem like these were his allies.
In fact, their equipment looked more like the Nordic samurai gear he’d seen before at the entrance of the Shen Family auction house, where he’d fought a sudden ambush.
These guys had a penchant for decorating their shields and helmets with various horns.
A chilling sensation crept into his chest.
Wang Yunxiao suddenly turned around, but there was nothing behind him.
When he turned back, however, the witch in white, who had been leading the way, had vanished.
Tsk...
Is this how we’re playing it now?
"This way."
A soft voice sounded ahead. He followed the sound to see a disheveled, naked woman standing in the distant shadows, beckoning to him gently.
Without hesitation, Wang Yunxiao raised his rifle and fired.
One shot to the head. The woman let out a sharp screech before her body burst apart, revealing spider legs adorned with grotesque faces sprouting from her human skin.
Wang Yunxiao held the rifle with one hand and continued firing.
The Liuyun Rifle erupted with thunderous blasts in the enclosed cavern. The newly revealed giant spider shrieked and retreated, struggling as rusted bullets tore through its body, causing irreparable wounds and spraying bodily fluids everywhere.
It had clearly underestimated the weapon’s destructive power... or maybe it had read too many cheap novels and truly believed itself to be Impervious to Swords and Spear.
Wang Yunxiao stood motionless, sliding a freshly rusted magazine from his ammo pouch and loading it into the rifle with one hand.
Within ten seconds, the enormous spider collapsed to the ground, its limbs twitching as it fell silent.
Wang Yunxiao stepped on the shattered human skin, walking past the spider’s corpse.
Strange, rustling sounds echoed in the darkness.
Perhaps drawn by the gunfire, the surrounding creatures seemed to be gathering in greater numbers.
But the spider’s corpse seemed to give them some pause, clarity returning to their limited minds.
The corpse was evidence enough of the danger posed by this "prey"... or perhaps it was unclear who was the hunter and who was the hunted.
Wang Yunxiao continued forward.
After another hour or so of walking, the path ahead gradually began to widen and flatten, showing signs of artificial carving.
He even spotted a distant light.
Wang Yunxiao squinted, focusing on the light. It was an oil lamp hanging on the wall.
"Hey! Who’s there!"
Someone shouted in English, followed by the sound of a bolt being drawn and a nervous groan.
"Wood? Is that you? Don’t scare us!"
The voice belonged to a man.
As Wang Yunxiao approached, he could see several individuals under the lamplight. Judging by their outfits, they resembled a team of treasure hunters or explorers straight out of a Western movie.
Well, in the Outer Dimension, you really could run into just about anything.
A gunshot rang out, and a bullet whizzed past Wang Yunxiao’s face.
The shot had been aimed at his head; if he hadn’t tilted his head in time, the bullet would have hit him.
The shooter, however, was the one panicking.
"Oh shit! This thing can dodge bullets!"
"Lower your gun, Ryan!"
An elderly professor with graying hair and glasses pushed the barrel aside. Squinting at Wang Yunxiao, who was emerging from the darkness, the professor cautiously asked, "Can you speak English?"
