LOVE IN PARIS: Married To My Brother-in-law-Chapter 38: Invitation
The next day, the set bustled with the usual chaos of filming with crew members adjusting and positioning lightning, camera being set in place, actors and crew milling about, calling out instructions.
Immediately Yvette arrived, she was the center of attention as the others clamoured over her praising her for her skills and she only replied politely.
The set has been prepared for the continuation of the uncompleted scene between Nadia and Yvette.
The two actress got changed and began. However Nadia was unusually different today, even others on set could tell.
Initially she was a gentle lady who usually got along with others and would be chatting happily but after her unprecedented outburst on set the earlier day everyone stayed a distance away from her.
Judging from her personality, she was one who would withdraw and show off her true colors after such an incident but instead she had arrived much earlier on set today and even specially apologized to each and every one set for her unruly behavior and the delay, and she was even being especially friendly preparing coffee for everyone on set though they were still cautious around her.
She even went out of her way to greet everyone, complimenting the lighting crew, making small talk with the set designer, and thanking the director for his patience.
And even towards Yvette she was the same, just that she didn’t apologize but when she had trouble completing the scene she asked Yvette for advice and Yvette could be bothered with pressuring her by using pressure acting.
After a strings of reshoot, the scene was finally completed and everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.
After the scene, Yvette kept a comfortable distance and retreated to her personal dressing room.
"Yvette". Nadia smiled as she enter the dressing room, her smile warm and sincere and Yvette who had just changed out of her costume sigh in frustration.
" Yvette, you were really good today". She said, her voice filled with genuine admiration. "Your acting has improved so much since we first started and much thanks to your help and advice, I could finally get my footing and it made the scene come alive."
"So, I thought . . "
"You don’t need to pretend. It’s just us in here, you can go straight to the point and not beat around the bush". Yvette cut her off curtly unwillingly to hear her loads of nonsense.
Nadia blinked, her expression briefly showing confusion before she quickly nodded, offering a polite but somewhat stiff smile. "Why do you think I’m pretending? I’m being sincere here,I just want to apologize".
"Aren’t you?". Yvette asked curtly. "This is so unlike the high and mighty unruly Lady Boss of Silverscreen Horizons Entertainment". 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Nadia didn’t bother keeping up her farce any longer. "Perhaps because you’re not worth my anger . I can’t be bothered".
"I understand". Yvette replied and without much ceremony, she excused herself and walked off the set with Leila since her job for the day was done leaving behind Nadia with her thoughts.
As Nadia’s manager and assistants wrapped up for the day , Mary approached her, still a little perplexed by the shift in her behavior. "You were in a good mood today," She commented cautiously, but Nadia only smiled at her with a hint of amusement.
"Why wouldn’t I be? The scene turned out fine."
On their drive home, Yvette was so exhausted that she ended up sleeping the moment she stepped in the car.
At the flash of the red traffic lights halfway she woke up groggily and suddenly remembered something.
"Oh! Leila, can we make a turn at my old apartment? I left a document there I need to pick up."
"Sure". Leila nodded and turned the car toward the apartment she hadn’t visited in a while.
The building felt strangely distant, like a relic from a different time in her life. Yvette walked inside, retrieved the document she needed from the small desk, and headed back out.
As she was leaving, something caught her eye—her mailbox outside the building.
It was slightly ajar, with a piece of mail barely sticking out.
Curious she walked towards it and she picked it up. It was an envelope, addressed to her , she was too tired to go through it so instead she stuffed it into her bag and left.
When she arrived home, the soft glow of the evening lights welcomed her.
Zeke had prepared dinner, as he often did. The table was set with care, dishes warm and steaming, the scent of stir-fried vegetables filling the air. He greeted her with a warm smile, wiping his hands on a towel as she walked in.
"Dinner’s ready". He said casually as he helped her with her shoes and bags.
Though she was happy to see him and appreciated the thoughtfulness, a small sigh escaped her.
"You spoil me too much". Yvette pouted slipping off her coat and hanging it by the door. "I feel like I’m living too idly. All I do is work and come home to a perfectly made dinner. There should be more struggle, no?" Her complaint was light, but it carried a hint of sincerity.
He chuckled, walking over to her. "Women are meant to be pampered and cared for". He replied, a teasing glint in his eyes as he helped her settle in the sofa. "Isn’t that what every husband should strive for?"
She smiled softly, but there was a bit of exhaustion in her eyes. Her mind drifted back to the document she had picked up. "Speaking of work". She said "Im so exhausted today and I still have to go through some documents but I’ll probably eat first so I’ll have the strength to look it over."
He gently took the document from her bag and guided her toward the dining table. "Why don’t I just read it for you?" He offered. "You can just relax and eat and I’ll brief you on anything important."
Yvette was too tired to protest, so she nodded, taking a seat at the table while he opened the envelope and began to skim through the document.
As he flipped through the pages, a smaller letter fell out from between the folds. He picked it up, and his brows raised slightly in surprise.
"It’s an invitation," He said after checking it , glancing at her with a curious smile. "Your agency is celebrating its fifth anniversary."
Her eyes lit up in recognition. "Oh, right. I forgot about that but why would they bother sending me an invitation this time. I hadn’t attended one in years." She mused though she had mixed feelings about the sudden invitation letter.
And before she could reply, he spoke again. "Whatever they’re playing at, you can choose to go or not".
"I’ll go ". Yvette replied. "They have several tricks up their sleeves and whether I go or not they’ll never let me go and find a way to still criticize me so why not play along and see what they’re up to besides I was kinda expecting this when I infuriated Nadia. It’s not improper to say I was waiting for this ".
"I’ll have your dress and everything else prepared then since you’ve made up your mind. Security too, this time". He said, a bit more seriously. "I don’t want you venturing into the lion’s den alone."
"Do you worry that she’ll harm me ?. Don’t worry I’m not that laid-back against her any longer and beside I’m not that naive girl I was years ago. This is just one of her many tricks to make me loose face but this victim here refuse to cooperate ".
"And instead give her a taste of her medicine". Zeke completed and she laughed.
"Fine, fine. You know me the best". She laughed, waving her hands merrily as she chewed.
"I’ll have someone prepare the surveillance cameras too so you can be rest assured".
"And remember, no drinking nor eating or being too close to others".
"Yes".
Remember, phone me immediately if anything happens or you notice anyone suspicious around you.
Yes.
"Also . ."
"Since when did you have this nagging habit. I’m not a kid, I understand well what I should do and what not do . Okay".
"Hmm". Zeke mumbled, satisfied with her response and kissed her cheeks and she continued eating.
"Beside, you should also stay away from a certain somebody". He grumbled and she looked up at him.
"Who ?." She teased, raising an eyebrow. She already knew who he was talking about but she wanted to tease him so she asked curiously.
"Manuel of course". He replied. "I know it’s a clean cut between you two and you’ve completely moved on but I’m not sure if it’s the same for someone else".
"Relax". Yvette laughed and patted his shoulder. "My legs are too short to hop on two boats at the same time".
"Of course. I’m well aware of that shortie". He laughed and she did too.
"And is that supposed to be a compliment".
