Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 85: "Miles, I am Sean Harrison." "She’s already asleep.
Rory.
Very few people called Rory Linden that.
As far as he knew, only Miles Harrison and Evelyn Irving did.
A quick glance at the message made it easy to guess who the sender was.
Sean Harrison lowered his gaze to read the other two messages.
"Don’t laugh, but Lucy Shaw’s baby isn’t mine. It’s Andre Jennings’."
"Ever since Lucy got pregnant, I’ve realized that even though I was just playing around before, deep down I really want a family. I want a wife who can keep the house in perfect order so I can focus on my career without any worries."
Just as Sean Harrison finished reading, a new message came in.
"Back when my mom told me I’d regret breaking up with you one day, I didn’t believe her. Now I know she was right."
"The right person for me was by my side all along, and I was the one who didn’t cherish you."
Sean Harrison read the messages with a blank expression, his dark eyes sweeping over to Rory Linden.
The woman was leaning on his shoulder, her eyes gently closed.
It was so quiet in the car that he could hear the sound of her steady breathing.
He then took her phone and dialed the number from the text message.
The call was answered almost immediately, without even a single ring.
"Rory."
Miles Harrison’s voice came from the other end of the line—excited, but you could also tell he’d been drinking.
"Rory, why aren’t you saying anything?" The man paused before adding, "I know you’re disappointed in me, so you can’t be bothered to talk."
Sean Harrison didn’t make a sound.
"Rory, I always thought that maybe I didn’t love you, that I was just used to having you around."
"But lately I’ve been reviewing our relationship over the years. Do you remember back in high school, that guy from Class Three who used to write you love letters every day?"
"I told you then that our family was paying for your education, not for you to date. But really, I was just jealous. That guy was good at basketball, and I was afraid you’d fall for him."
"I probably fell in love with you a long time ago, I just thought you’d never leave me..."
"By the time I realized all of this, you were already gone..."
Miles Harrison’s voice was thick and nasal, as if he were about to cry.
Sean Harrison finally spoke. "Miles, it’s Sean Harrison."
The man’s four words were like a bolt of lightning from the sky.
The brief silence on the other end of the line was the calm before the storm.
"Where’s Rory?! Why do you have her phone! Give the phone to her!"
Miles Harrison’s voice cracked instantly.
It was already eleven at night.
At this hour, even people on a date would have gone their separate ways.
But Sean Harrison had Rory Linden’s phone. The answer was obvious.
Sean Harrison waited for Miles Harrison to vent his frantic emotions before speaking. "She’s already asleep."
"Bullshit! Did you steal her phone? Give it to her! I have something to say to her!"
Miles Harrison was truly falling apart.
He had thought his heartfelt confession just now was for Rory Linden’s ears.
When there was no response, he had even assumed that her resolve was wavering.
After all, whenever Rory Linden threw a tantrum in the past, he could always coax her back into a good mood with just a few sweet words.
This time, his words had been so full of emotion; Rory might have already forgiven him.
"Miles, Rory is your aunt now. You two have broken up. I’ve deleted those messages, and I won’t be passing on what you said to her." Sean Harrison paused for a moment before continuing, "She was your girlfriend for four years. In those four years, you had ambiguous relationships with at least eight other girls. You’re not right for her."
Eight.
Miles Harrison froze.
He was always high-profile in his actions, so women were naturally drawn to him.
Since these women had schemed to get close to him, almost every one of them knew exactly how to cater to his preferences.
They knew how to act cute and play the damsel in distress.
When he met one he liked, he would naturally take her to get a room.
Thinking back on it, there really had been seven or eight of them.
Miles Harrison seemed to realize something. "Uncle, I never would have thought you’ve been paying so much attention to me all these years."
"I’m the one who gives your company its projects. If something were to happen to you, I’d be the one cleaning up your mess. It’s not hard to have someone report back to me about you on a regular basis." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Sean Harrison made no attempt to hide his warning, telling Miles in no uncertain terms that everything his company had came from him.
Miles Harrison was too drunk to care about any of that. He asked directly, "Uncle, the reason Lucy and I got engaged so quickly was because you invited us to dinner that day, then you also called Charles Shaw over, and suddenly the whole thing was settled at the dinner table."
"Did I hold a knife to your throat and force you to get engaged?" Sean Harrison retorted.
"I couldn’t refuse under those circumstances! You were afraid I’d back out afterward, so you invited a bunch of socialites to the engagement party. You orchestrated this whole engagement, manipulating me step by step!"
As Miles Harrison recalled all this, he finally sobered up.
His feelings for Lucy Shaw had been no different from how he felt about those other women at first.
He just wanted to have some fun, and then break up when he got tired of her.
If anything had changed, it was that Rory Linden had uncharacteristically decided to move out that night.
He had let Lucy move in, just to spite her.
The realization hit Miles Harrison. "Uncle, you’ve been in love with Rory for a long time, haven’t you? My engagement, and you two getting together... it was all part of your plan, step-by-step, wasn’t it?!"
After a brief silence on the phone, Sean Harrison spoke slowly. "Yes. But you were also the one who didn’t cherish her."
Sean Harrison had never intended to poach his nephew’s girlfriend.
"I knew it! I knew it!"
On the other end of the line, Miles Harrison was completely breaking down.
In the car, Rory Linden heard the commotion. Her head swayed, and her brow furrowed slightly, as if she were about to wake up.
Sean Harrison said, "It’s getting late, you should get some rest," and hung up the phone.
The car fell silent once more.
Rory Linden continued to rest quietly against the man.
Until the car came to a stop in their building’s underground parking garage.
The driver got out first to open the door.
Sean Harrison turned to the side, about to carry the woman out...
"Mm..." Rory Linden groggily opened her eyes and looked around. "Are we here?"
Sean Harrison reached his hand out to her. "You can go back to sleep. I’ll carry you."
"No, it’s okay," Rory Linden said, shaking her head forcefully. "I feel much better after that nap."
Sean Harrison stood outside the car, holding the door open for her.
Rory Linden got out of the car.
Everything had been fine while she was sitting, but when she stood up, she felt a little dizzy...
"Careful."
Sean Harrison reached out and steadied her.
He kept his arm around her as they walked toward the elevators.
In the elevator, Sean Harrison finally took out her phone and handed it to her.
Rory Linden took the phone and seemed to remember something. "Just now... did someone send me a message...?"
She had been incredibly dizzy, but she clearly remembered Sean Harrison saying someone had messaged her.
It was just that the car ride had been so smooth that she quickly fell asleep.
Sean Harrison reached out and took her hand before saying, "It was a call from Miles. I told him you were sleeping and hung up."
"Huh?!" Rory Linden was a bit dazed. "What did he say?"
Her question could be interpreted in a few ways.
Sean Harrison couldn’t help but tighten his grip on her hand, his dark eyes staring intently at her. "Are you afraid he’ll misunderstand?"
