Chapter 55: Chapter 55: "You Look Good in a Qipao?

Rory Linden remained seated.

The man’s clothes were too thin, and the strong scent of alcohol clung to him. Some of it might have been spilled on his clothes, but he had definitely been drinking.

The two of them were alone in the room, and one of them had been drinking...

"I told you, I’m not so immoral as to force anyone."

Sean Harrison lightly clasped his hands together, making his intentions clear.

Of course, Rory Linden knew the man wouldn’t force her.

She was afraid...

...that she wouldn’t be able to control herself.

Sean Harrison was perfect in every way—his body, his personality, his intelligence, his sense of responsibility.

Everything about him matched her ideal partner.

She was afraid that if she got too close, she would abandon all her principles.

That she would start to have foolish fantasies...

Seeing that the woman hadn’t moved an inch, Sean Harrison got up slightly and leaned toward her.

She wouldn’t come to him.

So he would go to her.

The smell of alcohol on him was overwhelming. As he leaned in just a little, the aroma of red wine washed over her.

The arm of the sofa was right behind Rory Linden. She had no room to retreat.

"You look beautiful in a qipao. I’m not sure if Nadia Willow likes to wear them; I’ve never seen her in one."

Sean Harrison first responded to what the woman had said.

Rory Linden first lifted her gaze to the man’s face, then quickly lowered it again. Her eyes swept past the edge of his collar before finally finding a safe place to rest on her own clenched fists.

"I know Nadia Willow only because my mother and her mother are good friends. Later on, when her boyfriend got into trouble with gambling, I helped her pay off his massive debts. That’s all there is to it." Sean Harrison paused, then asked her, "Is there anything else you want to know? I’ll tell you."

Rory Linden shook her head. "No, it’s fine. The truth is, you’ve been the one helping me this whole time."

Sean Harrison could guess what she was thinking.

Sean Harrison asked her, "Rory Linden, you’re a cardiothoracic surgeon, right?"

Rory Linden nodded.

"I’m not a doctor, but I’d guess that the heart doesn’t lie. People can be deceived by their eyes or their ears, but not by their hearts. For example, when you’re nervous, your heart beats faster. When you’re sad, you feel a pang in your chest. Right?"

Sean Harrison asked, enunciating every word.

Rory Linden nodded lightly.

She lifted her gaze, automatically looking past the man’s physique to meet his eyes.

"Rory Linden, I’m telling you clearly right now: I have never treated you as a substitute for anyone. I hope you won’t listen to what others say, but instead feel it for yourself with your heart." Sean Harrison looked at her intently. "Then you can judge the truth for yourself."

The man wasn’t forcing her to believe anything.

Unlike Evelyn Irving or Miles Harrison, he wasn’t laying out a series of facts to make her believe something...

"Okay, I will."

Rory Linden nodded.

In her heart, she was already siding with Sean Harrison.

She believed that he truly hadn’t been using her as a substitute.

Hearing her response, Sean Harrison straightened the collar of his bathrobe, preparing to get up and see her out...

But the moment he moved, Rory Linden’s gaze unconsciously followed him.

"Dr. Linden, it seems you’ve been very interested in my body since the first time we met, haven’t you?" A soft chuckle escaped the man’s throat as he reached out, his palm gently closing around her wrist. "Want to touch it?"

The question was a temptation.

He gently guided her hand toward his body, stopping just a centimeter or two from his abs.

Then he relaxed his grip, letting her make the choice.

Rory Linden stared at the clearly defined contours, and as if possessed, her hovering hand descended upon them.

The texture of his abs was completely different from what she’d imagined. It was soft.

But when she pressed her fingers a little harder, she could feel the firm muscle beneath.

Just as her fingertips were about to wander upward over his stomach...

"That’s enough." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

The man caught her wrist.

She looked up and met his dark eyes, which were just inches away.

Seeing the slight tension in his eyes, she seemed to guess what he was thinking.

Rory Linden hurriedly apologized, "I’m sorry!"

"You’ve had your touch. I think I should collect a small thank-you gift..."

As the man spoke, he leaned forward, his shoulders slowly eclipsing the light in her field of vision.

Her body was completely enveloped in his shadow.

But at that moment, Rory Linden’s mind had inconveniently stalled.

All because of his words, "I think I should collect a small thank-you gift."

She felt like she had heard those words before but couldn’t place the memory.

Not until the man’s large hand cupped her cheek and a kiss landed on her brow.

The gentle, warm touch finally brought back a forgotten memory from deep within her.

When the light filtered back into her vision, Rory Linden looked at the man’s face before her and, as if possessed, raised her arms to wrap them around his neck.

"Mr. Harrison..."

Before she could utter the next three words, the man’s face descended again.

His kiss landed.

It was light, like a breeze in early spring.

Afterward, the man pressed the calloused pad of his thumb gently against her lower lip, his dark eyes rippling with emotion. "Do you want to continue?"

’Yes.’

The answer appeared in Rory Linden’s mind with almost no hesitation.

As the man leaned down, his bathrobe slipped, revealing the perfect curve of his pectoral muscles in her line of sight.

Rory Linden suddenly felt that she had been cautious for over twenty years.

’Surely I can let go just this once?’

She nodded lightly.

The man’s fingers gently caressed her lips. "Do you understand what ’continue’ means? It means we start with a kiss and don’t stop. I’ll kiss you from here... all the way to here..."

As he spoke, the pad of his thumb moved to the base of her ear and traced a path down the side of her neck.

Rory Linden’s skin turned red where his finger traveled.

She still nodded firmly.

"And then we’ll do other things." The man’s fingertip stopped on the thin fabric just over her heart. "It might hurt at first, but I’ll keep going. It probably won’t be just once. It will be many times..."

Just listening to him made Rory Linden’s face turn completely red.

She bit her lip, completely at a loss for words.

Sean Harrison leaned down and kissed her lips again, asking, "Have you ever had this kind of experience before?"

The question was loaded.
