Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 5: Greetings, Mr. Harrison
Rory had always known that Miles Harrison had a younger uncle, who was the son of his grandfather’s second wife.
He wasn’t much older than Miles, but they were a generation apart.
This man had been studying abroad for the past few years. Not long after returning, due to some turmoil within the Harrington family, the company was handed over to him.
According to Miles, the Harrington Family’s company had been on the decline. But after his younger uncle took charge and implemented drastic reforms to the company’s internal structure and strategic direction, it became the leading enterprise in Veridia.
Miles had the utmost respect for this uncle.
But this Sean Harrison was always elusive, and Rory had never once met him.
Rory helped Evelyn get Charlotte settled in the inpatient department.
She made the bed and helped Charlotte change into a hospital gown.
The original plan was to call for a caregiver to stay with her, but Evelyn insisted on staying by her bedside herself.
Once everything was settled, Rory said, "Auntie Irving, I’m on duty tonight, and I’ll be at the hospital tomorrow during the day as well. Please contact me if you need anything at all during this time. Tomorrow when Mr. Harrison arrives, I’ll explain the details of the stent procedure to him before I get off work."
"Okay, okay, thank you, Rory."
Evelyn walked Rory all the way to the doctor’s office.
When she returned to the hospital room, Charlotte was already asleep.
Evelyn had come from a well-off family and had never experienced hardship even after marrying into the Harrington family. The visitor’s cot in the hospital room was only 1.2 meters wide. But the mattress was too thin, and she found it uncomfortable to sleep on.
Evelyn kept replaying the evening’s events in her mind. ’Rory Linden really is a rare find,’ she thought. ’I need to push my son to get their wedding on the calendar.’
Seeing it wasn’t too late, she dialed Miles’ number.
"Hello?"
The phone had only rung a few times before a woman’s voice answered.
Evelyn double-checked the number before speaking. "Isn’t this Miles’s phone? Who is this?"
Having lived a life of pampered luxury, Evelyn’ voice bore no trace of her age.
"I’m Miles’s girlfriend. Can I help you?" The woman paused. "Miles is in the shower. If you have a message, you can just tell me, and I’ll pass it along to him."
Evelyn froze for a second, then her anger flared. "I’m Miles’ mother! You have him get on the phone right now! Otherwise, he can just forget about ever coming home again!"
The woman hastily apologized, "Oh, I-I’m so sorry, Ma’am. He didn’t have your contact saved clearly. I’ll go get him right away."
A few seconds later, Miles’ voice came through the line.
Evelyn was too furious to say anything else. She delivered only a stern warning. "Miles Harrison, I’m telling you, get rid of that woman immediately. I only acknowledge one daughter-in-law, and that’s Rory. If you insist on marrying some floozy, then you can get out with her and never come back!"

The next day...
Rory followed the department head on his rounds, and visited Charlotte’s room at last.
After the rounds were finished, Rory stayed behind in the room to explain some details about the heart stent procedure to Charlotte.
"Rory." Evelyn walked into the room. "Sean is already downstairs. When you see him, just explain things to him. He’s the one who makes the decisions for the Harrington family now. As long as he gives the nod, everything will be fine."
"Alright."
Rory tidied the stray hairs at her temples, then stepped out of the room to greet this Mr. Harrison at the door.
Soon, a man walked through the main entrance of the inpatient department.
His black shirt fit him like it had been custom-made, every line following the contours of his lean, muscular frame before disappearing into tailored pants that showcased his narrow hips and long, powerful legs. The sleeves were rolled up just enough to reveal strong forearms.
Golden morning light streamed through the windows. It traced the sharp planes of his face—the carved cheekbones, the strong jaw shadowed with the faintest hint of stubble, the straight nose.
His thick, dark hair was styled back, though a few rebellious strands fell across his forehead. Piercing dark eyes, framed by enviably thick lashes, held an intensity that made her breath catch.
Rory expression froze.
Before she had time to react...
"Sean! You’re here."
Evelyn’s voice came from behind her.
The man’s gaze followed the sound, and he responded, "Sister-in-law."
’Sister-in-law?!’
Rory stared at the man before her, her eyes wide with shock. Then she whipped her head back to look at Evelyn.
For a moment, she was too stunned to speak.
Evelyn walked to her side and introduced them with a smile. "Rory, this is Miles’s younger uncle, Sean Harrison. This must be your first time meeting."
Rory didn’t know how to respond, so she could only remain silent.
Evelyn then turned to Sean. "Sean, this is Miles’s girlfriend and my future daughter-in-law, Rory Linden. You’ve probably heard of her, right? She graduated from Veridia Medical University and works here now."
The pride in her voice was unmistakable as she introduced Rory.
"Rory Linden. I’m Sean Harrison."
The man’s voice was deep, his expression cool, and his tone was completely unreadable.
’I can’t tell if he already knew who I was, or if he’s only just finding out.’
Rory replied haltingly, "Mr... Mr. Harrison. Greetings."
"Oh, dear, you’ll be family soon. There’s no need to be so formal," Evelyn said with a laugh.
’Rory Linden and Miles Harrison have already broken up.’
’So we won’t be "family".’
Before she could explain, Sean spoke first. "Tell me about my mother’s condition. What kind of surgery does she need?"
Rory quickly seized the opportunity to change the subject.
She first explained Charlotte’s current condition and the reasons why the surgery was necessary. Finally, she patiently added, "The heart stent procedure is minimally invasive these days. The technology is very mature, and it’s the best course of treatment available right now."
"Okay." Sean’s dark eyes met Rory’s as he asked, "Who will be performing the surgery? Will it be you?"
"Yes... but if you’re not comfortable with that, we can have another doctor perform it."
Rory naturally assumed Sean wouldn’t trust her to perform the surgery.
But the next second, the man said, "Good. I’m perfectly comfortable with you performing the surgery."
Rory was stunned.
’The way he said that... it was as if he knew her well.’
Before she could say anything, Sean was already walking toward the ward.
Rory had met Charlotte a few times before and had always found her to be a rather kind elderly woman.
The moment Sean entered the room, Charlotte’s expression hardened.
"What are you doing? Didn’t I tell you it’s just a minor surgery? I’ll be in the hospital for two weeks and then I’ll be discharged. The company is more important. You don’t need to waste your time coming to see me."
Sean said, "You need my signature for the surgery."
Only then did Charlotte’s expression soften. "Then sign the papers and go get busy. Work is important. You don’t need to visit me during this time either."
"Understood."
Sean’s expression didn’t change. He was clearly accustomed to his mother’s attitude.
Rory quickly led the man to take care of the paperwork.
Evelyn followed them out.
Once all the paperwork was done, Evelyn said, "Rory, are you about to get off work? With my mother-in-law in the hospital, the house feels so empty. Why don’t you move back in for a while? Just to keep me company."
The place Evelyn lived was the old Harrington family estate.
The house itself, not including the gardens, was over a thousand square meters and had dozens of rooms.
Before moving in with Miles, Rory had always lived at the Harrington estate.
She was just about to refuse when Evelyn spoke first. "Are you worried Miles won’t agree? I’ll talk to him."
With Sean standing right there, Rory couldn’t bring herself to mention that she and Miles Harrison had broken up. She could only bite the bullet and nod.
Evelyn then looked at Sean. "Sean, did you drive here? If it’s convenient, could you give Rory a ride?"
"I can."
Sean’s reply was swift.
My heart quickened.
