Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 44: "I am not your girlfriend.
"Fuck, you fucking bitch! You dare kick me *there*? Don’t let me ever run into you again, or I’ll get some guys to gang-rape you..."
Morris Underwood clutched himself and grimaced, but still managed to curse at Rory Linden.
At that moment, he made a silent vow.
Even if he couldn’t get his hands on her now, he would track her down at Elysian Hospital.
He’d already done his homework. Rory Linden’s biggest backers in the Harrington Family were Evelyn Irving and Miles Harrison.
But now that Miles Harrison was engaged, even if he did something to Rory Linden...
...the Harrington Family wouldn’t risk offending his mother over a housekeeper’s daughter.
Rory Linden ignored Morris Underwood’s vile threats and hurried over to Sean Harrison, tugging on his arm. "I’m all rested."
"What was Morris Underwood saying?"
Sean Harrison didn’t move. His dark eyes were fixed on Morris Underwood, who was several meters away.
As a man, he knew exactly where Morris had been hit to be holding himself like that.
And the one who’d done it was undoubtedly Rory Linden.
As for why...
He didn’t need to ask to guess.
"It’s nothing, really."
Rory Linden knew Sean Harrison was busy today; she didn’t want to cause any more trouble for him.
Sean Harrison gently removed her hand from his arm and strode toward Morris Underwood.
As a doctor, Rory Linden stayed in shape. And since she had been acting in self-defense, she hadn’t held back.
Nearly a minute had passed, but Morris Underwood still hadn’t recovered. He remained bent over, trying to ease the pain.
Hearing footsteps approach from behind and catching a shadow in his peripheral vision, he instinctively assumed it was Rory Linden and continued his tirade. "You’d better apologize to me right now, or I’ll fucking find some guys to take turns on you..."
Sean Harrison lifted his foot and kicked Morris Underwood to the ground.
Once Morris’s eyes met his, Sean asked, "You were saying you want my girlfriend to apologize to you?"
"Your... your girlfriend?"
Stunned, Morris Underwood’s gaze shifted to Rory Linden.
The woman stood behind Sean Harrison, her brow furrowed and a clear look of panic on her face.
Sean Harrison raised his arm, wrapped it around Rory Linden’s waist, and looked down at Morris Underwood. "The last time we were in her office, I thought I made things perfectly clear."
The last time, in Rory Linden’s office, the man had only addressed her with a certain intimacy.
Morris Underwood had asked around, and everyone had told him that Sean Harrison was single.
He truly never imagined...
"I’m sorry, President Harrison, I’m so sorry! I really didn’t know Dr. Linden was your girlfriend. I... I... I thought she was single..."
Forgetting his pain, Morris Underwood practically scrambled to his feet.
He might be a good-for-nothing, but he knew exactly who he could and couldn’t afford to offend in Veridia.
The Harrington Family.
He could clash with Miles Harrison, he could even challenge Miles’s parents.
But he absolutely could not cross Sean Harrison.
Megan Underwood had told him time and time again that even though Sean Harrison was young, he was a master at business, at getting things done, and at reading people.
His skills and network left everyone else in his generation in the dust.
Sean Harrison’s expression didn’t soften at the apology. "You haven’t forgotten what you just said, have you?"
It took Morris Underwood a second to understand. He immediately turned to Rory Linden. "Dr. Linden, I’m sorry. It’s just... you’re so beautiful. I’ve never seen a woman as beautiful as you in my entire life, and I lost my head and said some things I shouldn’t have. You were right to hit me."
Rory Linden didn’t know how to respond and could only look to Sean Harrison for guidance.
Thinking his apology wasn’t sincere enough, Morris continued, "That kick just now was too light. Here, I’ll do it myself!"
The words had barely left his mouth before he slapped himself across the face.
He followed it with another.
The two slaps were solid, the SMACK, SMACK echoing through the room.
Rory Linden took a half-step back.
"That’s enough," Sean Harrison finally said, stopping him. "Get lost. I’ll discuss the rest with your mother. A worthless piece of trash like you isn’t qualified to stand here and talk to me."
Morris Underwood froze, dumbfounded.
For most of the stupid shit he pulled, Megan Underwood could smooth things over for him.
But if his mother found out he had offended Sean Harrison, she would skin him alive!
"President Harrison! President Harrison!"
As Morris Underwood pleaded, Sean Harrison had already taken out his phone.
Sean didn’t say anything at first. Instead, he shot Morris a look and uttered a single word: "Scram."
"I... I..."
Morris Underwood stammered for a moment, but ultimately swallowed his excuses and apologies and had no choice but to turn and leave.
Sean Harrison didn’t immediately make a call. Instead, he put an arm around Rory Linden and led her to a nearby sofa.
Once she was seated, he asked, "Let me see your feet. Did you get any blisters?"
Even though they were alone, Rory Linden still felt embarrassed.
She tucked her feet back and quickly shook her head. "No, it’s nothing. The heels are just a bit thin, and my feet got tired from standing so long. I’ve rested a bit, so I’m fine now."
"Alright. I’ll wait here with you for a bit. We can go in when it’s time to be seated."
The man sat beside her, his hand naturally reaching for hers.
They had only been pretending to be a couple for three or four days, and tonight was the only time they’d had to act so intimate in public.
Yet his movements were so practiced, as if they were a real couple.
This moment of closeness lasted only a few seconds...
"You don’t have to, Mr. Harrison. You should go attend to your business. You don’t need to sit here."
Rory Linden pulled her hand back.
’I need to sit here alone and clear my head. I know Sean Harrison is a good person, but the way he just defended me... it gave me the illusion that he really was my boyfriend. Something is beginning to sprout in my heart. I know it’s impossible, but I can’t suppress it.’
"What’s wrong?"
Sean Harrison’s gaze fell to the hand she had just pulled away.
"It’s nothing. It’s just that the guests at the engagement party are all very important people. I don’t want to hold you up because of me."
It was a perfectly plausible excuse.
She even found herself silently praying that Sean Harrison would get up and leave.
Sean Harrison smiled. "This isn’t work. Spending time with my girlfriend is more important..."
"Mr. Harrison," Rory Linden cut him off. She looked at him and said in a very serious tone, "I’m not your girlfriend. We’re only pretending. There’s no one else around, so you don’t have to say things like that."
She wasn’t just saying it for his benefit.
She was saying it for herself, too.
"Well... in that case, may I ask what Miss Linden’s impression of me is?" Sean Harrison paused, then added, "Aside from the fact that I’m a little old."
