Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 35: "Change the Bride to Rory Linden.
"Iโm not answering." ๐๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐๐ธ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐.๐ฌ๐ค๐ถ
Rory Linden didnโt hesitate for a second before giving her answer.
She and Miles Harrison were done. They had nothing to do with each other anymore.
Even if something had happened to Miles, it wasnโt something she could solve by answering the phone.
If he was hurt, he could call an ambulance. If he was in trouble, he could call the police.
She wasnโt going to be like she was half a month ago, rushing to his side the moment she heard he was injured, completely ignoring her own exhaustion after performing three surgeries and working for over a dozen hours.
As she declined the call, she also blocked the number.
-
Miles Harrison had just gotten home after a night of drinking with his friends when he made the call.
He was completely wasted.
After the driver helped Lucy Shaw get him out of the car and onto the bedroom sofa in the villa, he left.
Lucy Shaw sat beside him, covering her nose with one hand, unable to hide the disgust on her face.
There was still some vomit on his shirt that hadnโt been cleaned up!
As the pampered daughter of the Shaw family, sheโd never had to do any dirty or tiring chores. Dealing with a man who had thrown up from drinking was something she simply couldnโt handle!
Fortunately, Mrs. Thorne came up just then with a bowl of hot tea.
"Why donโt you help him change his clothes?" Lucy Shaw said, standing up to leave. "Iโm going to get changed too."
Before Mrs. Thorne could speak, Miles Harrison piped up, "Lucy, you help me. When Rory was here, she always helped me change."
Mrs. Thorne could see the disgust for the whole situation written all over Lucy Shawโs face.
โWhat a shame for Young Master Harrison,โ she thought.
When Rory Linden was around, she never would have shown such an expression to him.
But at the same time, she felt that Rory Linden was right to leave.
Miles Harrison loved to drink but couldnโt hold his liquor, so throwing up was a common occurrence.
Back when Mrs. Thorne still lived here, there was one time Miles Harrison threw up all over the floor. Rory Linden had helped him to his room, changed his clothes, and then went back downstairs to clean up the mess.
The next day, she didnโt mention it at all, only advised Miles Harrison to drink less.
He had become incredibly annoyed. "If thatโs what youโre going to say next time, then you might as well be mute."
Lucy Shaw reached out to unbutton his shirt, but seeing the filth clinging to the buttons, she pulled her hand back.
Instead, she hugged his arm and whined coquettishly, "Oh, this shirt is so dirty, just throw it out! Iโll go pick out a new one for you to wear tomorrow!"
Leaning back on the sofa, Miles Harrison shook off her hand, his face devoid of expression. "Lucy Shaw, do you take me for an idiot? You just think my clothes are dirty and donโt want to do it, right?"
A wronged look appeared on Lucy Shawโs face. "You know my parents dote on me. They never let me do any chores at home..."
"Is that so?" Miles Harrison sneered. "They dote on you so much, yet they let you throw yourself at me and become a homewrecker."
The room fell silent.
Lucy Shaw could hear the utter contempt in his voice.
She stared at Miles Harrison, feeling as if the man before her was a complete stranger!
Miles Harrison completely ignored the hurt on her face. "That day you โtrippedโ and spilled red wine all over meโdid you think I couldnโt see through your clumsy act? I just thought you looked pretty good with that pitiful, apologetic expression on your face."
He never saw that kind of expression on Rory Lindenโs face.
Even when he said awful things, Rory Linden would just lower her eyes. She never showed weakness, never looked aggrieved and begged for his forgiveness.
When he saw Lucy Shaw, he had simply found the expression heโd always wanted to see on Rory Lindenโs face.
Lucy Shaw sat there, her hands clenched into tight fists. Tears welled up in her eyes before spilling down her cheeks. "Miles Harrison, itโs true I tripped and spilled wine on you on purpose, but I really do like you! Is it wrong for me to like you? My parents didnโt force me to get engaged to you; they only agreed because they saw how much I liked you!"
"Is that so? Wasnโt it because our Harrington family has money and could save your familyโs crumbling company?"
Miles Harrison was only half-drunk.
But in a way, his mind was remarkably clear.
"You donโt believe me? If you donโt believe me, why did you agree to the engagement? Why did you let your uncle arrange the engagement party? Was it fun to lead me on?"
Lucy Shaw was overwhelmed with grievance, her tears flowing nonstop until her eyes were red and puffy.
If Miles Harrison hadnโt been drunk, he definitely would have given in and comforted her.
But right now, he didnโt even want to move. "My family is the one hosting the engagement party. Itโs not like we specified who I have to marry. Big deal. I can just announce on the day that Iโm marrying Rory Linden instead. Sheโs always wanted to marry me anyway, and my mom wants me to marry her too."
His every word trampled all over Lucy Shaw and the Shaw family.
Lucy Shaw stood up from her chair, tears streaming down her face. She looked hurt and fragileโthe exact look Miles Harrison loved most.
But the man before her remained unmoved.
He just watched her cry.
Finally, Lucy Shaw wiped away her tears. "Fine! Then go ahead and marry Rory Linden! Iโll move out first thing tomorrow morning!"
Miles Harrison watched her slam the door and leave without saying a single word to stop her.
He even felt a sense of relief.
He took out his phone. First, he tried calling Rory Linden from his personal number, but after discovering heโd been blocked, he switched to his work number.
He hadnโt expected the call to connect, only to be hung up on again.
When he tried calling back, he found that this number had also been blocked.
-
That night, Rory Linden and Sean Harrison had agreed to pretend to be a couple.
Unfortunately, Sean Harrison left for a business trip the very next day.
Rory Linden actually felt a little relieved.
She really had no idea how to pretend to be a couple with someone like Sean Harrison.
โMy colleagues would probably...โ
โTheyโd never believe it, would they?โ
That evening, Rory Linden was on duty, so she didnโt need to go home.
After her shift ended, Rory Linden made the rounds with the department director.
When they got to Charlotte Rhodesโs room, the director noted that she was recovering well and could be discharged the next day.
As everyone was about to leave, Charlotte Rhodes called out to Rory Linden. "Rory, dear, it seems Miles is in the hospital too. Evelyn just went to see him. You should go check on him as well."
"...Alright."
Rory Linden had no desire to see Miles Harrison at all.
But Charlotte Rhodes was Sean Harrisonโs mother. Since she had asked, Rory had no choice but to go.
After finishing her rounds, Rory Linden asked around and found out that Miles Harrison had drunk so much heโd ended up with a perforated stomach. He had been rushed to the gastroenterology department in the middle of the night and had immediate surgery.
Fortunately, heโd been brought in just in time. It was a minimally invasive surgery, and he was already awake, so he wouldnโt need to stay in the hospital for too long.
Rory Linden arrived at a ward in the gastroenterology department on the 9th floor.
"No matter what you say today, I am not getting engaged to Lucy Shaw!"
Rory Linden had just reached the door of the hospital room when she heard Miles Harrisonโs voice.
"Stop this nonsense! The banquet is already booked. What are you talking about? Do you know how much money your uncle spent on this engagement party for you? The guest list is full of prominent people. You canโt just cancel it on a whim!"
Evelyn Irvingโs voice carried out into the hall.
She sounded angry, exasperated, and like she was trying to reason with him against her better judgment.
Listening, Rory Linden even felt a little sympathy for Evelyn Irving. โHow did she end up with such a troublesome son?โ
Just as Rory Linden stepped into the room, Miles Harrisonโs voice rang out again.
"Then Iโll marry Rory Linden! Weโll just change the bride to Rory Linden. Havenโt you always wanted me to marry her? At least we can get through the engagement party this way." As he spoke, Miles Harrison saw Rory Linden walk in and his face lit up. "Rory, you came to see me?"
