Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 27: "Tell Him, I’m Your Boyfriend.
Rory didn’t know how long she had been crying. It felt like she had exhausted all her strength before she could finally stop.
The car had already stopped.
The cabin was exceptionally quiet.
After her mind went blank, Rory was disoriented for a moment, forgetting where she was.
By the time she realized where she was, she wasn’t even sure if Sean Harrison was still in the car.
She remained hidden under the suit jacket, trying her best to dry her tears. Only then did she grab the lapels with both hands and slowly raise her head.
Sean Harrison sat beside her, his face turned toward the window.
The driver had already gotten out of the car.
The interior lights were off. The faint glow from outside the window revealed that they had arrived at her apartment complex.
Noticing her sit up, Sean Harrison turned his head slightly. "Wait in the car. I’ll go deal with your father."
"You don’t have to. I can go by myself."
Rory hastily wiped at her tears and pulled a tissue from the box in the car.
She meticulously wiped her hands clean before taking his suit jacket, folding it neatly, and placing it to the side.
Her first instinct was to get out on the right side of the car, but seeing that he hadn’t moved an inch, she turned to get out from the left side instead...
The moment she moved, his large hand closed around her wrist. "Rory Linden. Either I go by myself, or I go with you. It’s one or the other. There’s no third option."
Rory turned to find herself facing his stern expression.
There were no lights on in the cabin. The faint glow from outside caught his ink-black eyes, only to be swallowed by a cold, dark gleam.
His body heat slowly transferred to her from his palm.
Rory bit her lip. "I..."
"Fine. We’ll go together."
As he spoke, Sean Harrison opened the car door, making the choice for her.
He ducked out of the car but didn’t let go of her hand. He remained slightly stooped, his palm still clasped around her wrist, as if afraid she’d run off.
Rory lowered her gaze to his hand and spoke again. "Mr. Harrison, my father is insatiably greedy—a bottomless pit that can never be filled. I’m going there now to tell him I’ve cut all ties with the Harrington Family. If he sees you with me, he’ll definitely ask me for money."
Sean Harrison wasn’t surprised by her words in the slightest.
’This girl must be used to being independent after so many years. Her reason for refusing my help is always that she doesn’t want to cause me trouble.’
"Your father doesn’t know who I am. You can tell him I’m anyone." Sean paused. "For instance, your boss. Or... your boyfriend."
Rory looked utterly stunned.
Before she could speak, Sean added, "A very poor boyfriend with a lot of debt. But you’re so in love with me that you broke up with Miles Harrison and got kicked out by the Harrington Family. All the money you’ve earned over the years has gone to paying off my debts. I told you I’d turn things around one day, and you believed me."
"Huh?"
Rory was genuinely dumbfounded.
She was dumbfounded because...
...she actually thought his proposal wasn’t entirely without merit.
’It would also logically explain why Miles broke up with me.’
Sean pressed his advantage. "Don’t worry. I rarely make public appearances or grant magazine interviews. An ordinary person would have no way of recognizing me."
Rory believed him on that point.
After she had saved him at the bar, she and Sherry Walsh had run into him again soon after.
At the time, Sherry had recognized the other executives with him but hadn’t recognized Sean Harrison.
This proved that Sean Harrison did indeed keep a low profile.
Seeing Rory hesitate, Sean said, "Then you wait in the car. I’ll handle him."
"No, don’t! Let’s go together."
Rory hurriedly chose the second option.
As they were about to leave, Sean pointed to the driver nearby. "Give me your suit jacket and the car keys. Then stand far away and await my call. Don’t stand near the car."
Although the driver didn’t understand, he still took off his suit jacket.
Sean Harrison was a little taller than the driver, but the driver was heavier.
Suits like these were always tailor-made.
The driver’s suit was clearly a poor fit on Sean Harrison, making both the clothes and the man himself look a little cheaper.
The two of them soon reached her building.
Rory looked over from a distance but didn’t see anyone else. Nearly all the lights in the stairwell were out.
She then looked up toward her apartment.
The living room was pitch-black, without a single glimmer of light.
’He must be gone.’
"They’ve probably left..." Rory turned to look at Sean Harrison. "I’m going upstairs to pack my things."
"I’ll go with you."
Sean Harrison stood at her side.
Rory was quite brave; she wasn’t afraid of the dark, of animals, or of blood. She felt that none of those things were as terrifying as people.
But now, with Sean Harrison standing behind her, she felt a great deal more secure.
Not all the lights in the stairwell were working.
Rory climbed the stairs cautiously, keeping a close watch on every step, afraid that Gary Sinclair would be sitting on one of the landings, ready to leap out and scare her.
Thankfully, she reached the top floor without any sign of Gary Sinclair.
Rory opened the door and started packing her things.
Sean called the driver over to help them move.
She didn’t have many belongings, but some of her medical textbooks were incredibly heavy, and she was exhausted from having to move them around so much lately.
To prevent Gary Sinclair from returning, Rory found a piece of paper, borrowed a pen from Sean, and wrote down two words: "Moved Out."
She taped the note to the door, and then they left.
Once they were settled back in the car, Sean Harrison asked, "Where are you planning to go?"
"I... I’ll go to my best friend’s place..."
"Are you sure you want to bother your friend at this hour?"
Sean easily found the flaw in her plan.
Rory glanced at her watch...
It was almost midnight.
Although Sherry Walsh might not be asleep yet, showing up on her doorstep at this hour would definitely make her worry.
Before Rory could speak, Sean continued, "Your father found your rental address in such a short amount of time, which means someone likely helped him. If you go to your friend’s place and he tracks you down there, the two of you won’t be able to handle him."
Rory knew he was right.
’I can’t go stay at Sherry’s place.’
’Maybe I should...’
’...just quit my job.’
The thought had barely crossed Rory’s mind when the man beside her spoke. "You can stay at my place. I live alone, the house is large, and there’s an empty guest room with a private bathroom. It’s not far from the hospital where you work. I can assign you a capable driver for pick-up and drop-off. If I’m home, I’ll take you to work; if I’m not, the driver will."
"You don’t have to..."
"Rory Linden, before that day at the bar, we had met once before. At the Harrington Family’s Summerwind Estate."
He spoke very slowly, his expression grave, each word measured as if he were prying open his own long-sealed wounds.
All so she would feel at ease accepting his help.
