Evan Hollis’s every word made the blood in Rory Linden’s veins seem to stop flowing. It felt as if her heart had forgotten how to beat.
She looked at the man beside her, her expression filled with terror.

Evan Hollis followed her, explaining earnestly, "Dr. Linden, you’ve really misunderstood me. I would never harm Auntie Rhodes. I’m the one who most wants her to live a long and healthy life."
"If this were five years ago, living a long life wouldn’t have been a problem for Auntie Rhodes. But her health has deteriorated so much these past few years. How long she has left is anyone’s guess."
Rory Linden struggled to calm herself.
She didn’t care one bit about what happened to Charlotte Rhodes.
’She can live or die for all I care.’
"I really don’t understand why you all suspect me. I studied medicine, and I’m an anesthesiologist. If I really wanted to kill her for money, there are countless ways I could have done it."
Rory Linden walked quickly, with Evan Hollis keeping pace beside her as he explained.

After a few more steps, Rory Linden finally stopped and turned to him. "The kidnapping... how did you find out about it?"
The police had suppressed all reports about the incident.
They only issued a brief police announcement, keeping most of the details confidential.
Any related videos or comments online were deleted almost immediately.
All the parents had also promised not to speak about it.
There weren’t many ways Evan Hollis could have found out.
Unless he happened to know one of the police officers or parents involved.
"I helped a parent at the hospital the other day and heard about it while we were chatting," Evan Hollis said earnestly. "I know President Harrison must still love you. I hope you two get back together soon."
By then, the two of them had reached the entrance to the outpatient hall.
Rory Linden left him with a final, "We will not be getting back together," and strode into the outpatient hall.
Evan Hollis remained standing where he was, quietly watching Rory Linden’s retreating figure. The smile on his face was unchanged, lingering there for a long time.

After finishing with her patients, completing her rounds, and changing her clothes, Rory Linden left the inpatient department.
Sean Harrison was still downstairs, standing under the same tree.
"Let’s go."
The moment Sean Harrison saw her emerge, his face broke into a smile.
She got off work a bit early that day, so she called Auntie Wagner to let her know they would be picking up Leo.
To keep a low profile, Rory Linden drove.
They parked the car about a hundred meters from the kindergarten and walked the rest of the way.

Once the kindergarten let out, they picked up their children and headed to the restaurant they had booked.

The clientele consisted mostly of people there for business dinners.
Sean Harrison had given instructions beforehand, so the server only brought the food menu, not the wine list.
The restaurant’s standard dishes weren’t terribly expensive, with seafood priced in a moderate range.
The real expense came from the à la carte specials and the market-price seasonal seafood.
Naturally, when Nina’s parents inquired about this particular seafood, they were told it was unavailable.
Nina’s father carefully ordered a full, respectable meal with fish, meat, and seafood.
As they sat together, they briefly discussed the recent kidnapping and caught up on the progress of the case.
The food began to arrive shortly after.
The first dish to arrive was shrimp.
Sean Harrison excused himself to wash his hands. When he returned, he looked at Rory Linden beside him and asked with a smile, "Want some shrimp? My hands are clean."

Before Rory Linden could finish her thanks, the man cut her off.
The man used his chopsticks to place a shrimp on his own plate. With slow, deliberate movements, his slender fingers peeled away the shell, revealing the pinkish-white meat inside.
He placed the peeled shrimp onto her plate before turning to Leo Linden. "Leo, do you want some shrimp?"
Leo Linden nodded.
Sean Harrison picked up another shrimp with his chopsticks and began peeling it for Leo.
Nina’s family, sitting across from them, was momentarily speechless.
In their family, that was always a job for Nina’s Mom.
Seeing Sean Harrison take the initiative to peel the shrimp, Nina’s Mom felt a complex mix of emotions and couldn’t help but shoot a look at her husband.
When her husband didn’t react, she finally spoke up. "President Harrison, you’re not only successful in business, but you’re also so good to your wife."
Sean Harrison finished peeling the shrimp and placed it on Leo’s plate.
A server quickly brought over a hot towel for him to wipe his hands.
Wiping his hands, Sean Harrison said:
