Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 17: Think of Me First
Before Rory could explain, Sean denied it first. "I’m not that kind of person."
"Got a new boyfriend?" Stella’s voice was cheerful. "Good for you! I couldn’t stand your last boyfriend. What kind of guy was he? He didn’t just not care about you, he ordered you around all day. I mean, during finals week, you barely had time to sleep, and he made you bake a cake and bring it to him just to save face! It makes me mad just thinking about it."
"Don’t be mad. It’s all in the past. He..."
"Let me tell you, you’d better not be like her last boyfriend, taking advantage of our Rory’s good nature and ordering her to do this and that! She may have a good temper, but her friends don’t."
Stella was convinced that Sean was Rory’s boyfriend.
She wouldn’t listen to any explanations, but decided to pressure Sean as if she were Rory’s protective family.
Stella was about to say more when an ambulance, siren wailing, pulled up directly in front of the emergency room entrance.
"I’ve got to go."
Stella waved at the two of them and immediately rushed over to the ambulance.
Rory watched as Stella joined the paramedics from the ambulance, and pushed a gurney into the emergency room. There was no way she could go over and explain now.
After the two got in the car, Rory finally said, "Sorry, I think my friend misunderstood. I’ll clear it up with her later."
The car was quiet for a moment before Sean spoke. "By the way, you did very well today."
The man didn’t respond to her comment, instead speaking as if something had just occurred to him.
Rory looked over at him. "What did I do well?"
"The fact that you thought of me first when you were in danger. That was very good." Sean lowered his gaze to the woman beside him. "If you ever feel like you’re in a dangerous situation, I hope I’m the first person you think of."
The man’s tone was exceptionally serious, and as he looked at her, his ink-black eyes seemed to hold an unusual gentleness.
"Um... I’m moving out tomorrow, so I probably won’t be staying at the Harrington Family’s house again. Besides... we live in a society ruled by law. It’s not that easy to run into danger."
Rory Linden had only called out Sean Harrison’s name today as a result of weighing the pros and cons.
At the time, besides the maid, only Evelyn and Sean were home.
The maid couldn’t handle Miles, and there was a chance Evelyn would just stand by and do nothing.
The only one who might have helped her was Sean Harrison.
It was just... they probably wouldn’t cross paths again in the future.
Sean held out his hand. "Can I see your phone for a second?"
"Did you not bring yours?"
Despite her question, Rory unlocked her phone and placed it in the man’s hand.
With his right arm at his side, Sean typed a number into the call screen.
And dialed.
A moment later, a pleasant ringtone sounded from his pocket.
After hanging up, Sean handed the phone back to her. "That’s my number. Save it. You can call me for anything."
"Thank you."
Rory thanked him politely.
She took her phone back and began to save his number right in front of him.
She had just typed the name "Mr. Harrison" into the contact field and hadn’t yet hit "save" when the man’s corrective voice came from the side. "Choose one: Sean Harrison or Uncle."
Rory Linden silently deleted the name "Mr. Harrison."
She changed it to "Sean Harrison."
It was already the dead of night, and the car drove along the wide, empty road.
Rory stared at the monotonous night scenery outside the window as drowsiness slowly washed over her, her eyelids growing heavier and heavier...
It wasn’t until her head came to rest on Sean’s shoulder that he realized she had fallen asleep. He instructed the driver, "Slow down a little." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
To let her sleep more comfortably, Sean carefully cupped her face with his palm, and gently guided her head to rest on his lap.
The warm-toned streetlights mixed with moonlight streamed through the window, tracing the woman’s silhouette with light and shadow.
Sean lowered his gaze, his long, slender fingers tucking a stray lock of her hair behind her ear, revealing the full curve of her profile.
The sleeping woman was quiet and docile.
This was always the impression Rory gave people. She was gentle, tender, and easygoing.
But Sean knew there was more to her. She was also kind and incredibly strong.
It was understandable that she didn’t remember him.
After all, when he was a child, he had been so sick that he was nothing but skin and bones.
He looked nothing like he did now.
A few years ago, when he found out she was Miles’ girlfriend, he had considered just staying by her side in his role as ’uncle.’
Thankfully...
Heaven had given him a chance.

The next day...
Rory left for work in Sean’s car.
When she arrived at the hospital, she changed her clothes and went to check on Charlotte’s condition. After having the family sign the necessary consent forms, she entered the operating room.
Rory was already highly skilled at cardiac stent procedures.
The surgery took an hour and a half and went very smoothly.
After the operation, Rory put her white lab coat on over her surgical scrubs. Just as she stepped out of the operating room, she saw three people standing at the door.
In addition to Sean, Miles’ parents were also there.
"The surgery was a complete success. You don’t have to worry a thing."
After briefly informing them of the outcome, Rory turned and headed for her office.
About half an hour later, Charlotte woke up.
Rory went to the patient’s room to check on her again. After confirming there were no issues, she briefly explained the post-op instructions and left.
She had just reached her office door when...
"Dr. Linden!"
A woman called out to her.
Rory turned toward the voice.
A middle-aged woman with short hair, accompanied by a young man, was waving at her as they walked over quickly.
The middle-aged woman was Megan Underwood, whom she had met in the outpatient clinic a few days ago.
"Ms. Underwood, how have you been feeling?"
Rory asked out of simple courtesy.
"Thanks to you, I’ve almost fully recovered. I should be discharged in a few days, but I’ll still have to keep taking my medication after I leave."
Megan was full of gratitude.
"That’s good to hear. Make sure to rest and don’t stay up too late."
Rory gave a couple of perfunctory instructions.
"Oh, right, Dr. Linden, this is a small token of my appreciation." Megan held out the bags in her hand. "A thank you gift for you."
Rory hastily refused. "I’m sorry, the hospital has a rule against doctors accepting gifts."
"How is this considered accepting a gift? It’s not like I’m asking you to perform surgery on me, and I’m not even hospitalized in the cardiology department." Megan’s face was wreathed in smiles. "It’s just a small gesture from me."
The bags Megan was holding were from famous luxury brands.
It was easy to tell from the packaging that they were designer bags.
Rory quickly pushed them away. "Ms. Underwood, I still have work to do. If you insist, I might have to call security."
Megan hesitated for a moment before taking the gifts back. Then she pulled the young man beside her forward. "Right, let me introduce you. This is my son, Morris Underwood. He’s 28, graduated from a prestigious university overseas, single..."
"Ms. Underwood, I really have to get back to work..."
"Well, then, you two young people can at least exchange contact information. I’ll take these things back first."
Without waiting for a response, Megan turned and left with her things.
Morris looked Rory Linden up and down, then got straight to the point. "My mom really likes you and insisted on dragging me here to meet you. So, I’ll just ask directly. Do you have a boyfriend?"
The man was really holding high about it.
Before Rory could even speak...
"Rory."
A familiar male voice came from behind her.
The man walked straight up to her, raised his hand to gently brush a stray strand of hair from her forehead, and said softly, "You were on your feet for so long during surgery. Why aren’t you back in your office resting?"
Morris looked up, and upon recognizing the newcomer, his arrogant expression instantly changed. He greeted him politely, "President Harrison."
