Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 154: "Let’s Get Married.
Sean Harrison glanced at the woman beside him out of the corner of his eye. He took a small card holder from the inner pocket of his suit jacket, removed his ID, and handed it to her.
Only after she had a firm grip on it did he start the car.
As the car drove smoothly down the road, Rory Linden carefully examined the man’s ID photo before looking at his birthday.
January 11th.
It was an easy date to remember.
It was only two months away. Very soon.
"Got it."
Rory put the ID back in the card holder and placed the holder on the car’s center console.
The two of them went out to eat at a restaurant before heading home.
Once the car was parked in the underground garage, Sean Harrison retrieved the card holder she had left on the console and picked up the flowers and vase from the back seat.
As they walked toward the elevators, he finally asked, "Why the sudden interest in my birthday?"
"I want to give you a birthday present." Rory Linden smiled earnestly, emphasizing, "A truly unforgettable birthday present."
Sean Harrison was holding the flowers in one arm and the vase in the other, leaving him no way to embrace her.
He could only lower his gaze to look at her. "Just having you by my side is the best gift."
A birthday present.
He had longed for such a thing when he was very young.
Every time ended in disappointment.
Eventually, he learned a lesson.
If you don’t have expectations, you can’t be disappointed.
He hadn’t looked forward to his birthday in a very long time.
"Then I’ll just have to give you an even better gift."
The elevator ascended slowly to the top floor.
They entered the apartment.
The temperature inside was kept at a constant 26 degrees.
Rory Linden changed out of her jacket and thick knit sweater, slipping into a cotton loungewear set. She then returned to the living room and placed the vase and bouquet on the coffee table.
She began arranging the flowers.
She didn’t know any special flower-arranging techniques; she was simply placing the flowers from the bouquet into the vase one by one.
She had just arranged a few stems when Sean Harrison, having changed his clothes as well, came over.
He sat down beside her.
After placing the last rose into the vase, Rory Linden tilted her head to ask the man beside her, "Aren’t you going to ask what kind of birthday present I’m preparing for you?"
A smile played on Sean Harrison’s lips. "Am I allowed to ask?"
It was probably due to the shadows of his childhood.
He wasn’t in the habit of asking about gifts.
The two of them were sitting on the rug in front of the coffee table.
Rory Linden rested her hand on his leg, looked into his dark, ink-black eyes, and asked very seriously, "Sean Harrison, I’ve thought it over. Let’s get married."
She paused, then added, "On your birthday. We’ll go register our marriage, and from then on, your birthday will also be our wedding anniversary every year."
The living room of this apartment was exceptionally large.
And it was on the top floor.
The entire space was devoid of noise, so quiet that...
...every single word she had just spoken seemed to still be echoing in the air.
Sean Harrison’s expression froze.
He didn’t react at all at first.
He looked as if he hadn’t quite heard what she’d just said.
Rory Linden leaned a little closer and said it again. "Isn’t that a good idea? Two anniversaries in one. From now on, this day will be the most important day of the year for us."
Sean Harrison’s lips parted as if he wanted to say something.
But the words didn’t come out right away.
After a moment of silence, he finally said, "It doesn’t have to be my birthday. It could be yours."
"I was the one who thought of it, so I get to choose the date." Rory Linden’s fingers tightened around his hand. "I choose your birthday to be our wedding anniversary."
The room was still silent.
Sean Harrison looked at her without saying a word, but the pressure of his palm gradually deepened, as if silently conveying his emotions.
An indescribable surge of turbulent, vibrant, and tender feelings.
Rory Linden asked him with a smile, "I’m giving you a chance to choose now. Will you accept this birthday gift? If you do, we’ll go register our marriage in fifty-eight days."
Fifty-eight days from now was his birthday.
Sean Harrison wrapped an arm around her waist, gently caressed her face with his other hand, and leaned in to kiss her.
After a brief, light kiss, Rory Linden gently pushed him away. "Answer me now. If you’re not willing, then... we can take our time and rethink it."
Although Sean Harrison had mentioned registering their marriage several times before, she wasn’t sure if his plans had changed.
’What if he has other ideas now? Then we can just take it slow. Maybe it was just a whim back then. If he’s changed his mind now, I won’t force him.’
"I’d love to."
Sean Harrison gave her lips a light peck.
Her silhouette was reflected in his dark pupils, which held an un-dissipating warmth and amusement.
Rory Linden wrapped her arms around the back of his neck. "Later, when you have time, tell me about your past. Anything at all... I want to understand you better."
At that moment, Rory Linden felt like she was a complete and utter fool for love.
Nadia Willow and others had repeatedly told her that there was something wrong with Sean Harrison, that he wasn’t as gentle as he appeared on the surface.
He had a hidden side.
Not only that, but her own recent experiences had indirectly confirmed it.
But she didn’t want to care about any of it.
She just wanted to follow her heart.
Sean Harrison was the first to speak. "Why the sudden change of heart? Did you find the diary your mother left behind?"
"No." Rory Linden shook her head with a hint of regret. "I just suddenly decided I don’t want to care so much anymore."
She used to think that all mothers in the world loved their children.
But she’d never considered...
...that some mothers, for whatever reason, would love another child instead.
It didn’t matter if Charlotte Rhodes didn’t love him.
She would love him.
At this moment, Sean Harrison already sensed what was going on.
He knew what day it was, and he knew what had happened at the hospital.
The girl he loved was smart; she must have already figured out the relationship between Evan Hollis and Charlotte Rhodes.
She was using her own way to put him at ease.
The man’s long, well-defined fingers threaded through her hair, cupping the back of her head.
His kisses traveled gently down from the space between her eyebrows, covering every inch his gaze had traced...
Originally, she had been sitting on his lap.
He lifted her onto the low coffee table, then knelt on both knees before her.
The slight difference in height forced him to tilt his head up slightly to kiss her...
Sean Harrison held the small of her back with one hand.
His other hand...
After being together for so long, he was already familiar with her body, moving with practiced ease... 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Outside the window, the sky was a hazy gray.
There was no moon in sight.
Inside, the apartment was brightly lit, with the lights on in every room.
By the time they finished, the city streets outside were empty, with even fewer cars.
The bed in the master bedroom was wide.
Rory Linden looked at the man beside her, her gaze falling on the scar that stretched across his shoulder.
She gently pressed her fingers against it and asked him, "Sean Harrison, you... you won’t break up with me, right?"
