Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 150: A Diamond Ring Lay Quietly in the Man’s Palm
Miles Harrison’s apology was sudden, but also very solemn.
Rory Linden knew why he was apologizing.
It was about everything that had happened in the past.
In the past, she would have been happy.
But after all this time, she had long since let it go.
She was Sean Harrison’s girlfriend now. They hadn’t been together for long, but they had already made many memories.
Good memories.
So she no longer wanted to dwell on the bad memories with Miles Harrison.
"It’s all right," Rory Linden said in a placid tone. "In that case, I’ll wait for you to pick me up after my shift on the 13th."
’Who knows when we’ll see each other again.’
’We should at least be civil for our last meeting.’
’It would be a way to bring closure to the past.’
After confirming her dinner plans with Miles Harrison, Rory Linden told Sean Harrison about it when her clinic session ended around noon.
The man simply acknowledged it.
Even so, Rory Linden still said, "I’m just going to have dinner with him. I’ll come home right after we eat, and I won’t drink."
She felt that as his partner, she should give him a sense of security.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line.
Sean Harrison couldn’t stop himself from saying, "I’ll pick you up after dinner."
"You don’t have to. I’ll just get a taxi. I’ll share my ride details with you once I’m in the car," Rory Linden explained. "Besides, dinner could end at any moment."
She knew what he was worried about.
She was also worried he would end up waiting for her nearby long before she was ready.
Sean Harrison ran a huge company; he was surely swamped with work.
He shouldn’t waste his time on trivial things like this.

「On the 13th.」
After finishing her morning rounds, Rory Linden sat in the office with her colleagues, chatting for a few hours.
After lunch, everyone was back, sitting around and resting.
A new, young nurse came in to deliver something. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Seeing everyone sitting around, she joked, "This is the first time I’ve ever seen you masters of cardiac surgery so unoccupied."
"Don’t say that!"
A colleague immediately snapped.
The young nurse jumped, startled.
Rory Linden couldn’t help but sigh. "You’re new, so you don’t know. That’s the biggest jinx in a hospital."
In a hospital, it’s considered bad luck to comment on how quiet things are.
It’s also bad luck to eat mangoes.
The reason is that the word for mango sounds just like the word for "busy."
They wouldn’t even order a mango-flavored milk tea, not even a mango pomelo sago.
Unfortunately, sometimes, these superstitions proved to be frighteningly accurate.
Less than an hour after the young nurse left, a patient with a type A aortic dissection was rushed in from the ER.
After an examination, the decision was made to operate immediately.
Rory Linden quickly got up to prepare for the surgery.
On her way, she glanced at the time and decided to call Miles Harrison.
She told him she had an emergency surgery.
They would have to reschedule dinner for the next day.
In the past, if she had canceled on him, Miles Harrison would have definitely flown into a rage.
This time, Young Master Harrison readily agreed. "Okay, I get it. You go take care of your work."
Rory Linden sent a message to Sean Harrison as well, and only then did she focus on her work.
She could really see how much Miles Harrison had grown.
’Even if it was a little late.’
’It was better than never.’
Some complications arose during the surgery.
When Rory Linden emerged from the operating room, it was already past nine at night.
She washed her hands, changed her clothes, and took the elevator downstairs with her bag in hand.
Just as she reached the elevator bank, she spotted a familiar figure standing in the corner.
Miles Harrison.
When he saw her, he hurried over. "Is the surgery over? You must be exhausted."
"You... have you been waiting here this whole time?" Rory Linden glanced at her watch again and rolled her shoulders before speaking. "I’m sorry, I’m pretty tired. I don’t really have an appetite anymore."
"It’s fine. To be honest, if you’d come out any later, I probably wouldn’t have been able to wait."
Miles Harrison gave a small smile.
He had always been a simple person—he’d laugh when he was happy and throw a fit when he wasn’t.
The smile on his face now was clearly strained.
Rory Linden looked at him and asked, "Why is that?"
"I..." Miles Harrison opened his mouth, then waved a hand dismissively. "Come on, let’s get in the car. I’ll take you home."
"There’s no need. I can just get a taxi."
Rory Linden pulled her phone from her pocket and gave it a little shake. "I’ve already booked a ride."
"Cancel it. Please, just let me drive you," Miles Harrison said, as if realizing he couldn’t hide it any longer. "The truth is, I have a flight tonight. I have to leave in a little while."
"..."
Rory Linden was taken aback.
She studied his expression again.
She confirmed he wasn’t lying to her.
Only then did she cancel her ride. She made sure to send the driver a message to apologize, and even sent a small tip of five yuan.
The two of them walked toward his car.
Rory Linden then asked him for his flight time.
"12:03 a.m.," Miles Harrison said, looking up at the sky. "I know what I’m like. A part of me still doesn’t want to go, and I was afraid I’d back out if I waited any longer. So yesterday, I made a snap decision and bought a ticket for today."
"A 12 o’clock flight?!" Rory Linden glanced at her watch again. "Then you shouldn’t drive me! Hurry home and get your luggage, or you’ll miss your flight."
"My luggage is in the car. I’ve got everything with me," Miles Harrison said. "My plan was to leave straight from here after seeing you, without going home again."
He looked at Rory Linden with a helpless expression. "I was afraid if I went home, my mom would say a few words to try and convince me to stay, and I really wouldn’t have the heart to leave."
Rory Linden had known Miles Harrison for thirty years; she was very familiar with this young master’s ways.
Even though he said he had everything, she couldn’t help but ask, "Your passport? Did you bring it? Maybe you should check your wallet..."
"I brought them. Passport, bank cards, credit cards, driver’s license—I have them all."
After listing them off, Miles Harrison turned his head to look at Rory Linden beside him.
"Rory, I’ve been thinking a lot lately, and I’ve only just realized what a real piece of shit I was back then..."
By now, they had reached the car.
Rory Linden cut him off. "Young Master Harrison, it’s getting late. I should be the one taking you to the airport."
"No, I’ll take you."
"That’s enough. Stop arguing. You can’t miss your flight."
Rory Linden’s tone was firm.
International flights require more time to get through customs, so it was better to get there a little early.
Miles Harrison hesitated for a moment before finally agreeing.
As the car headed to the airport, Rory Linden sent another message to Sean Harrison to explain the situation.
Usually, whenever she messaged Sean Harrison, he would reply almost instantly.
This time, even as the car pulled into the airport parking lot, she still hadn’t received a reply.
Miles Harrison had a driver with him.
Once they were inside the airport terminal, the driver took the luggage and passport to go check in.
Veridia Airport wasn’t deserted, even at night. Plenty of passengers were rushing to and fro.
Just as Rory Linden took out her phone to check again for a reply from Sean Harrison...
"Rory... I, uh, have something I’d like to leave with you for safekeeping. Is that okay?"
Miles Harrison suddenly asked.
When Rory Linden looked up, his right hand was outstretched, palm up.
A diamond ring lay silently in his palm.
