Chapter 143: Chapter 143: "When I return, I will take my girlfriend back.

Sean Harrison’s height and build were both exceptional. As he stood on the outside, he completely shielded Rory Linden from view.

The moment Miles Harrison saw Sean Harrison, his mind flooded with speculation.

His expression tense, he hurried up the stairs. Only then did he see Rory Linden standing beside the man.

"Rory, you’re here too."

Upon seeing Rory Linden, Miles Harrison’s demeanor softened considerably.

Auntie Vincent looked puzzled. "Uncle?"

Miles Harrison glanced at Sean Harrison beside him and said to Auntie Vincent, "This is my uncle, Sean Harrison."

Rory Linden then explained, "Yes, my boyfriend is Young Master Harrison’s uncle. I just didn’t get a chance to say it."

"Are you guys leaving?" Miles Harrison stepped aside on the staircase to let them pass. "Perfect. I have a few words for Rory. I’ll walk you down."

Since Rory Linden and Sean were about to leave anyway, they didn’t refuse.

Once they were downstairs, Miles Harrison got straight to the point. "Rory, I’ve decided to hand over everything at the company, resign, and move abroad for a few years to build my career."

Sean Harrison was standing right beside Rory Linden.

He was the first to ask, "How come I haven’t heard about this?"

Miles Harrison seemed to have truly made up his mind to leave, and his hostility toward his uncle had diminished. "There’s still one project to wrap up, but it’ll be finished in a few days. I know I’ve always been unreliable, but I want to be dependable for once before I go."

Rory Linden could clearly sense that Miles Harrison was genuinely changing.

She was still a little worried about him. "Are you sure you’re not being scammed? These ’friends’ of yours aren’t tricking you into some overseas telecom fraud ring, are they?"

Miles Harrison had had it too easy growing up.

It wouldn’t be surprising if someone managed to trick him.

"Do you really think I have such poor judgment?" Miles Harrison sighed deeply. "Well then, I’ll just have to work hard enough to impress you when I return."

Sean Harrison had no interest in hearing any of this. He wrapped his arm around Rory Linden’s waist and asked, "Are you done? We’re leaving."

Miles Harrison was completely unfazed by his uncle’s attitude. "Uncle, once I’ve built a successful career and returned, I’m going to win my girlfriend back."

"That’s not going to happen."

Sean Harrison’s tone was unequivocal.

"I’ll never be as successful as you, but I’ll definitely be able to give Rory a good life without relying on you."

Miles Harrison didn’t get angry in the slightest.

He already understood the massive gap between him and Sean Harrison.

He could work hard for ten, twenty, or even thirty years and likely never catch up.

Rory Linden frowned and retorted, "Has it occurred to either of you that I can provide a good life for myself?"

"You’re right. I’m only just now realizing how truly exceptional you are, Rory." Miles Harrison turned to Sean Harrison. "Uncle, I really am leaving, so... before I go, I’d like to ask Rory to dinner. Is that okay?"

"No."

Sean Harrison refused.

Rory Linden tilted her head. "You’re asking me to dinner, so why are you asking for his permission?"

Sean Harrison tightened the arm he had around her. "It’s useless asking you. If I don’t let you go, you won’t be able to."

"My legs are my own. I’ll go if I want to, and I won’t if I don’t."

Rory Linden was defiant.

Miles Harrison then turned to Rory Linden. "In that case, Rory, may I treat you to a farewell dinner, just the two of us, before I leave?"

"Just dinner, right?"

Rory Linden asked for confirmation.

Miles Harrison: "Yes, just dinner."

Rory Linden nodded seriously. "Alright, I agree. Just let me know in advance. As long as I’m free, I’ll be there."

Upon receiving her affirmative answer, the expression on Miles Harrison’s face visibly relaxed.

He backed away toward Auntie Vincent’s house, waving at Rory Linden. "Great! I’ll be sure to contact you in advance this time."

’Every time he’d asked her out before had been on a whim.’

’This last time, he wanted to leave a good impression.’

’When he returned in a few years, if she and his uncle weren’t together, maybe he’d still have a chance.’

From the moment Rory and Miles made their arrangement, Sean Harrison’s expression soured.

Before heading home, the two went to a restaurant for dinner.

Throughout the three-hour-plus French dinner, Sean Harrison showed no outward signs of anger.

Every word he spoke and every move he made adhered to the perfect etiquette of a French gentleman at dinner.

But Rory Linden could clearly sense he was furious that she had agreed to have dinner alone with Miles Harrison.

The car pulled into the parking garage of their residential complex.

Sean Harrison got out of the car, with Rory Linden following beside him.

As the elevator in front of them was about to arrive at the B2 level of the underground garage, she said provocatively, "If you don’t want to see me, I can just go pull a shift at the hospital."

Sean Harrison said nothing, simply reaching out and grabbing her left hand, the one closest to him.

His well-defined fingers slid between hers, lacing their hands together tightly.

Once they were in the elevator, Rory Linden watched him press the button for the 47th floor. Then, she reached out and pressed the button for the 1st floor herself.

The elevator stopped at the first floor.

As the doors slid open, Rory Linden deliberately tugged at the hand he held clasped with hers.

In response, his thumb pressed down firmly on the back of her hand.

The message in his grip was clear: she could get off the elevator, but she might have to leave her hand behind...

The elevator doors slid shut, and the car began its slow ascent once more.

This time, it didn’t stop until it reached the 47th floor.

The moment the two of them stepped through the door...

Sean Harrison swiftly used one hand to pin both of her wrists, raising them high above her head.

With his other hand, he fumbled with the buttons on her coat, leaning in to kiss her with an impatient hunger...
