Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 141: "It’s Because You’ve Lost Too Much Weight Since You Came Back.
Rory Linden couldn’t help but protest, "I’m just unsteady on my feet, not unable to hold something."
"Is that so?" Sean Harrison’s arm wrapped around her waist. "Then I’ll just hold you."
Rory Linden brushed her teeth.
After she spat out a mouthful of foam, she couldn’t help but complain, "You took advantage of me yesterday when I wasn’t clear-headed... I’ve never been this exhausted before!"
Sean Harrison squeezed her slender arm. "It’s because you’ve gotten too thin since you’ve been back."
"But I was so active in the countryside. Logically, my stamina should have improved a lot."
Rory had been too drowsy yesterday.
She did wake up later, though.
But it felt completely different from being awake from the start.
’It was like I’d entered my own dream...’
Watching her turn her head to speak to him, Sean Harrison couldn’t resist. He cupped her chin, holding her in place, and kissed her again...
The early winter sunlight was gentle.
It streamed in through the glass.
The central air conditioning kept the room at a constant 26 degrees Celsius.
Sean Harrison had personally helped her into this very nightgown after carrying her back to the master bedroom in the middle of the night.
As he kissed her, he could clearly taste the minty toothpaste.
And the lingering chill of the tap water.
Perhaps it was because he was standing behind her.
A kiss like this didn’t seem to be enough...
Sean Harrison’s hand pressed on her shoulder as his kisses trailed down the fair skin of her spine...
Rory caught the hand he had around her waist. "Weren’t we going to have breakfast...?"
"Are you hungry?"
Sean Harrison lifted his head slightly.
She wasn’t sure if it was because his hand was pressing on her stomach, but she didn’t feel hungry anymore.
She shook her head gently.
The man’s voice was slightly hoarse. "Then we’ll eat a little later..."
-
Rory Linden was very glad she hadn’t insisted on breakfast; it gave her an excuse to ask him to stop after just one round.
Sean Harrison had breakfast delivered from a restaurant.
There was beef congee, shrimp dumplings, grilled fish, and more.
Rory had just sat down when her phone, resting on the dining table, started ringing.
The name on the screen was Evelyn Irving.
Rory answered the phone and greeted her politely, "Auntie Irving."
They hadn’t been in contact for a long time.
"Rory, dear, I’m sorry to bother you at this hour. Are you at the hospital today?"
Evelyn Irving’s voice held a note of politeness that hadn’t been there before.
While she had always been pleasant enough to Rory in the past, there was a distinct difference in her tone now.
"Auntie Irving, I’m off today," Rory explained, then asked, "Is there something I can help you with?"
’In truth, she didn’t get much time off. Even on her scheduled rest days, she had to rush to the hospital for work if there was an emergency surgery. It was rare to catch her on a day when she was truly away from the hospital.’
Only then did Evelyn Irving mention that she was taking Charlotte Rhodes for a follow-up appointment today.
She said, "I was thinking it would be better if you were there, to have a familiar face guide us."
’It wasn’t surprising that Evelyn Irving would think that way. In the past, whenever she came to Elysian Hospital, Rory would accompany her for the whole visit, as long as she didn’t have surgery or clinic hours. Even if she was busy, she would ask a nurse to help out and keep her company. Afterward, she would always buy the nurse a small gift to return the favor. Evelyn Irving had always taken all of this for granted. It was only after her relationship with Miles Harrison changed that Evelyn had stopped contacting her for a while. Now that she needed to accompany Charlotte Rhodes, she thought of her again.’
’Now that she and Sean Harrison were a couple, considering the long run...’
Rory decided to say, "Please wait a moment, then. I’ll find a nurse to take you to the department director."
Evelyn Irving quickly thanked her. "Wonderful, wonderful. We’ll be there in about ten minutes."
After hanging up, Rory called the nurse who had often helped in the past and asked her to accompany Evelyn Irving.
Once everything was arranged and she’d hung up...
Sean Harrison asked her, "What are your plans for your day off?"
Rory told him her plan. "I’m visiting Grandma Thorne in the morning and Auntie Vincent in the afternoon."
Originally, Rory had only planned on visiting Grandma Thorne.
However, because of what had happened before, she decided to add regular visits to Auntie Vincent to her schedule as well.
Perhaps, over time, Auntie Vincent would remember something.
Sean Harrison said, "As it happens, I’m off too. I’ll go with you."
"Okay, thank you."
Rory agreed.
-
「Elysian Hospital.」
Evelyn Irving and Charlotte Rhodes soon met the nurse Rory Linden had arranged for them.
The nurse first took them to the outpatient clinic for some tests, then brought the results to the inpatient department to see Keith Hawthorne.
By the time they finished the series of tests and reached the sixth-floor cardiology inpatient ward, they were told Keith Hawthorne was still in surgery.
However, it was expected to end soon.
The doctors and nurses on the sixth floor knew Charlotte Rhodes was Sean Harrison’s mother, so they didn’t dare to be neglectful.
They settled the two of them in an empty hospital room to rest.
After a wait of about twenty minutes, Keith Hawthorne arrived. He reviewed Charlotte Rhodes’s EKG, listened to her heart with a stethoscope, and confirmed that she was recovering very well.
Only then could Charlotte Rhodes finally relax.
Keith Hawthorne escorted the two women from the room.
As they passed the nurses’ station, a doctor, still in scrubs with a white coat thrown over them, was chatting with a nurse.
The man’s curly hair was particularly striking.
As Charlotte Rhodes passed, she couldn’t help but glance over at him.
From her initial angle, she couldn’t see his full face, only a pair of black-rimmed glasses.
When she shifted her position to get a better look, the doctor seemed to sense her gaze and turned to look at her.
Their eyes met...
"Lion?!"
Charlotte Rhodes couldn’t quite believe her eyes.
Many years ago, while abroad, she had been disappointed in Sean Harrison. To save face, she had considered going to an orphanage to adopt an exceptional child to be her son.
In the crowd, her eyes had immediately landed on a boy of Chinese descent.
The very first time she saw him, the boy smiled right at her.
A pair of small dimples at the corners of his mouth were very distinct.
Back then, the boy’s hair had been very short, so she couldn’t tell it was curly.
That day, Charlotte Rhodes learned a lot about the boy. She found out he was the most exceptional child in the orphanage.
Many prospective adoptive families had passed on him because of his extraordinary intelligence.
After all...
Many people didn’t want to adopt an older child who was also that intelligent.
They were afraid he might use his intelligence for the wrong purposes.
But Charlotte Rhodes had adored him.
Perhaps because he’d grown up in that environment, the boy was incredibly sensitive and could easily read her emotions.
Everything he said was exactly what she wanted to hear.
In comparison...
Her own son was far less pleasing.
At least, that was until Sean Harrison started to excel in high school. She had given the boy a sum of money and decided to stick with her own son after all.
The doctor standing before her was none other than that little boy from all those years ago!
When the doctor saw Charlotte Rhodes, he froze for a second before a smile spread across his face. "It’s been a long time, ma’am."
He spoke perfect Mandarin.
When they first met, the boy’s Mandarin hadn’t been nearly as good.
She had told him she hoped he could speak Mandarin well, and he had immediately taken the initiative to learn.
In just a year or two, he was already speaking fluent, standard Mandarin.
The dimples at the corners of the doctor’s lips confirmed she hadn’t been mistaken.
Charlotte Rhodes couldn’t help but ask, "Lion, what are you doing here...?"
"I’m an anesthesiologist at this hospital," the doctor said with a smile. "Oh, and you don’t have to call me Lion anymore. My Chinese name is Evan Hollis."
Evan Hollis paused, then added, "You’re the one who chose it for me."
