Chapter 31: New Girlfriend.

Karl blinked.

Even Jasper’s and Felix’s brows furrowed in clear confusion.

They had all heard it, yet none of them understood.

However, Dylan simply paused. He understood what his daughter was asking for. He had noticed the recognition in her eyes long before this —he had only chosen to ignore it.

Eira tilted her head and looked up at her father. Her gaze was innocent, yet carried a faint hint of hurt, as though something inside her ached.

Karl watched them and slowly shifted on his knees, dragging himself backwards toward Jasper and Felix.

When he reached close enough, he tugged at their pants and whispered, "Can you explainwhat exactly Little Eira is asking for? I feel I heard her mention something like ... Mama’s smell. What does that mean?"

Felix didn’t answer. Neither did Jasper. They were trying to understand it themselves.

"It’s getting late," Dylan said, slowly turning to look at his daughter. His expression remained indifferent as before, but there was a gentleness in his gaze —rare, yet always present when it came to Eira. "You should go to sleep."

But Eira didn’t let go of his sleeve. Nor did she look away. Her gaze remained firm on him —and so did her silent demand.

In the end, Dylan couldn’t refuse her.

He pulled the scarf from his pocket and handed it to her.

Eira’s eyes lit up. She took the silk fabric carefully and slowly lifted it close to her nose.

Her lashes fluttered as she breathed in slowly.

The scent was soft ... quiet ... but it filled her completely.

Eira’s fingers tightened around the scarf. She pressed it closer to her face, breathing in again —slower this time, as if making sure it was real ... as if afraid it might disappear.

Her small shoulders relaxed.

She looked up at Dylan —eyes clear, unwavering and a smile as bright as a day itself.

"Mama’s."

Dylan didn’t confirm it, nor did he reject. Because he knew when it came to her, Eira never needed a confirmation from anyone. Not even him. She was certain without the need of any proof.

"It’s getting late now," he said, gently brushing the bangs that were falling over her eyes. "Go to your room and get into bed."

Eira didn’t argue. She nodded, then climbed off the couch and walked toward her room.

The scarf in her hands was large, but she gathered and held it carefully with both of her hands as though it was her most precious treasure —something she couldn’t bear to see even slightly spoiled.

Dylan watched her from behind until she climbed all the way up the stairs.

"Brother ... did you find Eira’s mother?" Jasper aksed, his brows drawn in seriousness.

Felix wore the same expression.

"Who is she, Brother? And why is she only contacting you now? What is her intention?" A suspicion edged his tone —he could help but hold the guard up against this particular woman.

How could he not?

That woman had heartlessly rejected Eira when she needed her the most.

He could never trust her motives. Not when they involves their little Eira and her innocent heart.

Karl, on the other hand, followed a diffetnet line of logic. He wasn’t quick to question. Instead, he took his time, thinking it through before standing back on his feet and turning to Felix and Jasper.

Dusting of his knees, he spoke, "Hey ... aren’t you two jumping to conclusions too quickly?"

"What do you mean?" Jasper asked, the furrow between his brows deepening.

Even Felix turned to look at him.

However, Karl just pursed his lips, as though surprised they didn’t understand.

"I mean ... why are you immediately associating any woman with Eira’s biological mother? They can be different."

He then didn’t wait to explain further. Instead, he turned ti Dylan, excitement lighting his face.

"Brother, when did you find this new girlfriend? And why haven’t you introduced her to us?"

Jasper and Felix were dumbfounded.

New Girlfriend?!

They exchanged a look.

The idea wasn’t impossible ... but with Dylan involved, it just didn’t seem real.

"She might become Eira’s mother," Karl continued, clasping his hands together eagerly, "but she would be any less to us as well. She will be our dearest sister-in-law. We deserve to meet her too."

Jasper and Felix glanced at Dylan again. They hadn’t considered it before ... but hearing Karl speak with such certainty made the possibility feel strangely believable.

However, just as the thought began settling in their minds, Dylan’s cold warning shattered it.

"If you three are that free, I can find ways to keep you busy."

His gaze moved from Jasper ... to Felix ... before settling on Karl.

"Shall I begin by sending you away to be trained on how to lease your vain thoughts."

Karl froze. The fear that had only just subsided surged back instantly, locking him in place.

Jasper reacted quickly. Clearing his throat, he saod, "Oh — it’s getting quite late. I think we should let you rest, Big Brother."

And with that, he cued Felix and stepped back to leave.

Karl didn’t move.

In the end, Felix had to grab his hand and drag him along.

"Good night, brother," he said.

And then they left.

Outside, they stopped, their breathing slightly uneven as though they have just escaped danger.

Jasper steadied himself before turning to glare at Karl. "Didn’t I tell you to leash your imagination last time?"

"Y-You blame me?" Karl protested, his brows creasing in grievance. "I’m the one who suffered the most, and you still blame me?"

"That’s because you deserved every part of that suffering. New girlfriend? What were you even thinking, asking Big Brother that?" Jasper nearly charged at him, but Felix held him back. "If you are so desperate for punishment, don’t drag us with you."

Karl wanted to argue —but couldn’t.

Felix’s gaze, however, was distant. His thoughts lingered not on what they had escaped ... bur on the silk fabric.

"Who do you think that scarf belongs to?" he asked quietly, almost without realizing he had spoken aloud.
