Lord of the Sky City-Chapter 854 - 836: Offensive Like a Tidal Wave
Chapter 854: Chapter 836: Offensive Like a Tidal Wave
This counteroffensive war adopted a military merit system by the Allied Forces. As long as one participated in combat, they would gain military merit. The more battles they joined and the greater their contribution to the war effort, the more merit they earned. These merits could then be exchanged for any resources within The Three Great Alliances.
To ensure her family could acquire more merits, Cyril participated in all prior battles, earning an extraordinary amount of military merit—at a devastating cost.
In earlier battles, Cyril led her family’s three Sky Cities to the very front lines. Not only did they suffer heavy troop losses, but Soaring Dragon City endured severe destruction after tens of thousands of Flying Demons breached its Defensive Net. The entire city sustained catastrophic damage, and by the time they moved to Qingyuan City, it was already incapable of battle. Though the flagship underwent repairs, these efforts had to be halted due to demon ambushes.
Given such a state, Cyril’s predicament was evident. She was left with remnant soldiers who had just survived multiple deadly battles, isolated in a besieged city—a situation where neither holding the defenses nor retreating was possible.
"My Lady! The demons are attacking again!"
Just as Cyril was in the military camp discussing the next steps with a group of Elders, a soldier abruptly rushed into the tent.
Upon hearing of the renewed attack, Cyril didn’t hesitate for a moment. She promptly stood up and ordered her armor to be brought over!
Although Cyril was now the head of her family, she had once been a Void Magic Warrior in her younger years. Thus, upon hearing that demons had begun their assault, she didn’t choose to stay behind in the rear. Instead, she immediately donned her Void Magic Armor and ascended the city wall.
As the leader of her family, while Cyril didn’t possess an armor on the same level as the White Demon’s, she was equipped with the latest Holy Angel Armor. When she appeared on the city wall in full battle gear, she looked every bit like an angel descended from the heavens.
"Bernardo, what’s the situation?"
Once on the wall, Cyril turned to ask the commander of the troops. That commander, at this moment, was none other than Bernardo—the same person who had once engaged in a deadly clash with Rocky in Soaring Dragon City and suffered a crushing defeat.
Bernardo was once considered a rising star of the younger generation within the family. After his loss to Rocky, he was deeply shaken. Over the years, he had grown to become one of the pillars of the family’s new generation—a fact that led Cyril to entrust him with the critical task of defending the city.
With a small nod toward Cyril, Bernardo replied, "This time, the number of demons is relatively small. We should be able to hold them off."
Upon hearing this, Cyril turned her gaze outside the city walls, quickly spotting her own forces on the battlefield.
Beyond the city’s walls, the family’s ground troops had rapidly formed a formation—a defensive line. Over a hundred units of Close Combat Tank Armor were arranged in a single row, resembling an impenetrable wall of steel that stood firm before the city. Meanwhile, in the air, the traditional Void Magic Corps had fully deployed, with twenty squads of Void Magic Warriors providing substantial aerial support to the ground troops.
However, these forces were not the most critical assets. The most vital element was hovering above the Void Magic Corps—hundreds of warships. All these Fifth Generation warships had been supplied by the Magic Energy Research Institute. Unlike the modified warships from the Heaven’s Commencement City’s attack on Backhill Village, these were brand-new vessels entirely developed by the Institute, boasting capabilities far superior to standard warships on the market.
These hundreds of warships constituted the primary defensive force. When confronting the demons’ ground assault, relying solely on the Tank Armor and Void Magic Corps was far from enough. Airship support was essential to significantly reduce the demons’ numbers. It was precisely because of the aerial superiority provided by these warships that Cyril had been able to defend Qingyuan City for such an extended period.
Unfortunately, even the fleet’s numbers had dwindled drastically. At the onset of the war, the three Sky Cities commanded fleets totaling over three thousand ships. Now, only a little over one thousand remained. Among the two thousand ships lost, half had been destroyed in prior battles, while the other half had been demolished during the encirclement of Qingyuan City.
As Cyril gazed at the fleet above, she couldn’t help but mutter, "Please, no Flying Demons..."
After uttering these words, she raised her binoculars and peered into the distance.
Scanning the horizon, Cyril soon spotted the figures of the demons several kilometers away from Qingyuan City. A dense horde of demons appeared within sight, numbering at least ten thousand and seemingly continuing to gather!
Earlier, Bernardo had stated that the number of demons wasn’t high. He wasn’t lying. A force of ten thousand demons counted as only a minor assault compared to the largest-scale attack Qingyuan City had endured—an onslaught of fifty thousand Normal Demons and over twenty thousand Flying Demons. That battle left Bernardo’s defensive troops utterly devastated, with over five hundred warships destroyed and the city walls more than half obliterated. It was due to this devastation that the troops had to move out beyond the city to the plains for combat, aiming to intercept the demons before they could reach the city wall—buying precious time for repairs.
As she observed the demons through the binoculars, Cyril suddenly noticed movement among their ranks!
"They’re charging!"
Upon seeing the demons begin their advance, Cyril immediately shouted. Of course, she wasn’t the only one to notice—the fleet in the sky had already picked up on the demons’ actions.
Although the demons were still relatively far from the defensive line, the defense troops had received the alert, but distant visibility remained limited. However, moments later, they began to feel the ground trembling beneath them. The sensation was akin to an earthquake. Not only did the front-line defense troops feel it, but even those atop the damaged city walls—including Cyril—experienced it. The severely compromised walls began to crumble further under the intense shaking.
Within minutes, a tide of demons surged into view of the defensive forces!
The term "like a tide" could not have been more fitting. The scene of ten thousand demons charging was as awe-inducing as a flood bursting its banks!
"Fire!"
"Fire!"
"Fire at will!"
As the demons drew closer, the fleet stationed in the sky immediately commenced bombardment. The captains of each warship wasted no time in issuing orders to open fire.
Following the commands, the hundred-strong fleet instantly unleashed a blanket of firepower onto the battlefield below. Amid thunderous volleys and earth-shaking explosions, the defensive line was entirely engulfed in smoke and flames. Piercing cries of demons soon emerged from within the chaos. As the smoke gradually dissipated, one could see that the first wave of charging demons had been utterly obliterated—not a single one remained!
The fleet’s devastating power in large-scale engagements was fully demonstrated at this moment. However, almost immediately, more demons surged forward, stepping over the corpses of their fallen brethren to press their assault!
