Lord Of Puppets-Chapter 194 – Peace talk – Second attempt.
The adventurers and soldiers upon hearing the news about the wyverns were straight up not even resisting the retreat order, as everybody began packing their things up while being now led by the giant adventurer by the name of Arthur, who took the leading position after the death of the guild master Amelia Smith.
And just like that, the entire camp was left in hurry, without even carrying to pack their tents back, as the soldiers and adventurers just straight up ran towards the city as soon as possible in order to arrive at city, before the wyvern invasion could get to it.
However, the camp itself wasn’t left completely desolated, as 4 parties of adventurers were left behind, with one of the parties including Silver Talons as well as the golem researcher and specialists, Arthur Wirmur.
"..."
"So.... What is the plan?" – asked the leader of the Silver Talons as he and other party leaders watched as the entire small army which once inhabited the camp was now leaving the group’s field of vision.
"Well.... First thing first... Who are we dealing with?" – asked Arthur Wirmur as he turned towards the leader of the masked adventurer.
"I don’t know." – replied the masked man.
"These people knew what they were doing."
"Honestly, the reason why we retreated was to check if there was another attack coming or not."
"But by the looks of things, they didn’t do that."
"However, the question is how did they knew that the guild master was in the forest at the time with us?"
"Considering how they went after her with that much force would suggest their target was guild master... But maybe not at the same time."
"They attacked way too sudden and with too much force."
"This didn’t looked like some ’assassination’ to me... I think their aim was something else?"
"..."
"Wait, dungeon?" – said Arthur Wirmur. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"???"
"Wait, hold up." – said the dog beastman.
"But the dungeon wasn’t discovered pretty much recently?"
"..."
"Yeah... This doesn’t make sense.... But at the same time, why would they go out of their way to bring that form of massive assassination force?" – said the masked leader.
"Don’t take me wrong, but the guild master wasn’t worth it, with the amount of people and monsters they brought."
"Yeah... But what was worth it was the dungeon." – said Arthur.
"If they were aiming for the dungeon......"
"..."
"Shit... Now this is shitty situation, isn’t it?" – said Arthur as the masked adventurer suddenly armed themselves, which instantly put everybody on alert.
"!?"
"W-what are you doing!?" – asked dog beastman.
"Don’t move." – said the masked leader.
"The attack just now didn’t made any form of sense."
"Unless somebody from the camp has been feeding the outside the information."
"!?"
"Wait, are you suspecting us for being behind the attack!?" – asked pissed off human party leader.
"Yeah. There is good chance that somebody is here working with the attackers." – said the masked adventurer.
"I mean, how would anybody know the value of the dungeon?"
"This dungeon was declared as the private property of the empire."
"And you must had heard about it."
"That the goal is to tame the dungeon... Yes?"
"But here is a thing."
"How would whoever was behind the attack already knew the value of the dungeon?"
"..."
"Because somebody fed them information." – said wolf beastwoman.
"!?"
"Common! You are not saying you believe these bastards random accusation?!" – said pissed off human party leader.
"..."
The two men knew the truth.
That there was never a assassins to begin with.
However, they need to make their story as realistic as possible in order to deceive the adventurers.
Their story was simple.
These "assassin" must had found about the dungeon’s value and didn’t really came to assassin the guild master, but instead to disrupt the deal with dungeon.
Their plan may had been originally to just destroy the dungeon or hinder an operation.
"And somebody must had been feeding them information each moment." – said the masked leader.
"This would be the only logical explanation how they knew all of our movements."
"And currently you are all main suspects, since you have decided to stay behind."
"..."
"And how do we know that you aren’t with assassin?" – asked the still pissed off human party leader.
"We were pretty much always in the monster infested forest." – said the masked leader.
"Do you REALLY think we had any opportunity to exchange information there?"
"Besides, we were also attacked if you didn’t noticed already."
"..."
"Sorry, but as the things stands, I can’t trust any of you." – said Arthur.
"Only Silver Talons have solid alibi while the rest of you don’t."
"What about yours?" – asked a human archer.
"Oh please, I was always working in either worker tent and barely had time of my own."
"Not only that, I was pushing from the very start to tame the dungeon instead of destroying it."
"Whoever goal this was to disturb the operation must had seen me as the thorn to their side."
"..."
"Then what do you suggest we do? If you suspect if one of us is really the traitor?" – asked the human archer.
"Simple." – said Arthur.
"Get out."
"We don’t have time or anything that would confirm if ANY of you are really traitors."
"Maybe the traitors already left with the first group?"
"We don’t know."
"So, this time we are taking easy way out."
"!?"
"Wait, you are kicking us all out?! Are you fucking crazy!? These bastards will kill you!" – shouted pissed off human party leader.
"Yeah... They maybe will." – replied Arthur.
"However, tell me, out of all the options we have left, which one is safer?"
"..."
The adventurers obviously argued with Arthur and Silver Talons... However, the party of the beastmen decided to go with their plan, which in turn caused the second party to agree.
The human party was until the end determined to stay; however, they were in the end defeated in the debate.
Results? The 3 adventurer parties were kicked out and were told to return to the city.
If any were to try to even come back, they would be suspected of being the traitors in question.
"..."
"Okay, they are properly gone now. I can no longer see them." – said the party member A of the Silver Talons.
"..."
"What about the dungeon master?" – asked Arthur.
"We were able to hold him off and ask him to wait." – replied party member D.
"The question is whenever or not he listened... However, based on how the conversation was going, there is good chance that he had stayed behind."
"Good." – said Arthur.
"Then let’s not delay."
"I wouldn’t be surprised if they would sent somebody here as soon as possible to check the situation."
"Before that happens, I need to meet with the dungeon master." – said Arthur as the entire group without waiting began quickly heading towards the forest, while leaving behind only a single member of the Silver Talons behind to watch over the camp in case of emergency.
The group headed to the forest, taking the very same path that the guild master once took... Before then arriving at their destination.
A table which the 5 eyed golem sit next to.
(So... Is this the dungeon master?) – thought Arthur as he exactly saw the golem as it looked in his direction.
"..."
(No.)
(It is probably some sort of golem that is controlled directly by the dungeon master.)
(The real one must be still inside of dungeon.)
(Still, creating a golem which you can perfectly control from afar, every single one of their movements is not easy feet by any means.)
(Direct control and orders are completely two different things.)
(If the dungeon master can control from really far away this golem... Then that means this thing can either really control golems from extremely far away.)
(Or that golem has some means of receiving signal from afar.)
(Based on what those guys told me, this dungeon master gave precise answers question after question... That means it wasn’t necessary given pre made orders for specific responses.)
"..."
(No... Not yet.)
(There maybe a chance that the dungeon master somehow had this golem learn how to write?)
(Maybe it is just receiving order to write specific reply?)
(I’ve saw her once make that kind of golem, so I know it is possible.)
(...No.)
(All that matters now is the fact that I can communicate with dungeon master.) – thought Arthur as he started slowly approaching the golem while the members of the Silver Talons were observing the meeting once again from the shadows.
"I’m sorry for the delay." – said Arthur as he approached the table.
"My name is Arthur Wirmur."
"And I’m the one that wanted to hold the second meeting with you regarding the peace."
"..."
{"Your men said that they were not with guild master."} – written down the golem.
"That is correct." – said Arthur as he sat down on the chair.
"Guild master and I serve completely different people."
"And from what I’ve heard, you want peace, is that correct?"
"The guild master was never going to agree to your deal no matter what."
"But I on the other hand am willing to talk this through."
"..."
{"Explain yourself."}
{"One of the masked man who came here said that they had eliminated her."}
{"Is that correct?"}
"Yes. This is indeed correct."
"We obviously made a lie to make it look like it wasn’t you or us though."
"And there is another thing."
"If you didn’t knew, the army which was outside the forest has left the area."
"Thanks to our master little trick."
"However, they will be back."
"And when they will be back, they will aim to destroy the dungeon alongside you." – said the man as he lifted up a heavy looking suitcase, before then putting it down on the table.
"If I may, I would like you to talk with my master personally in this matter." – said the man as he slowly opened up the suitcase in order to not alarm the creature, before then turning around the open suitcase that held within a sphere like device attached to the mechanical component.
"..."
"So.... I guess this is pleasure meeting you." – said the distorted voice that came out from the device.
"Greetings dungeon master."
"My name is ’Y’."
"How about we talk for a bit?"
