Lord of Myths: I Can Summon and Fuse Divine Powers.-Chapter 84: Conversation in the Abyss. (1)
Everything was darkness.
A void of infinite shadows, a dark and eternal realm.
A space that was incredibly familiar to Alioth.
A static darkness, to which he was accustomed.
"Wow, this really turned out worse than I thought," a voice then sounded.
A familiar voice, which caused him conflicted feelings.
The old priest's voice, though with a different and confusing touch.
Alioth opened his eyes, upon doing so, the darkness vanished, purged by a faint light coming from that figure.
That figure he hated so much.
"You... Damn, you really don't die, do you?" the boy commented with clear annoyance in his voice.
After all, it was irritating to see again the face of that individual who had ruined his life multiple times, but not only that, he had also been really difficult to face.
Finishing him off had been a herculean and exhausting task, a feat that could easily be categorized as a miracle.
However, there he was, completely intact, as if all that effort had been completely in vain.
"Yes, killing me is not something simple, that's true," the old man commented. "Many tried without success, even I failed trying it."
Alioth raised an eyebrow confused, as he stood up on a surface similar to a black liquid, which for some reason could support him as if it were a solid surface.
Wasn't it strange?
The priest's behavior was different now.
He had a calmer attitude, very far from his usual eccentric behavior, worthy of being treated in an asylum.
It was strange, he almost seemed like someone kind.
Though Alioth knew that wasn't the case.
That man before his eyes was a monster who had experimented on children with the only excuse of not being of his same race, this added to possible crimes Alioth was unaware of.
"What is this? Where have you taken me? What do you want from me?" Alioth asked with clear distrust.
It was quite obvious he wasn't going to trust that guy, who not only almost killed Nora, but also wanted to use his body for a macabre plan.
Upon remembering Nora, Alioth hurried to add a question to the series of questions he had already asked.
"And Nora! Where have you taken her?" Alioth asked, as he looked around to make sure she wasn't in that place.
However, there was no trace of the girl, only endless darkness.
That worried Alioth even more.
What had he done with her?
Had that madman killed her?
The priest looked calmly at Alioth's face, which seemed very nervous and confused.
With all the naturalness in the world, the priest moved his fingers with a strange pattern, and a table and two chairs emerged from the darkness.
"Calm down, nothing will happen to Nora. As for you, well, for now I just want to talk to you," the man answered as he sat in one of the chairs.
Alioth looked at the priest with distrust.
Could he really trust his words?
Though the real question was, did he really have a choice?
He knew very well that in combat he wouldn't emerge victorious.
After all, he was weak compared to the priest, who had shown feats of power far superior to anything Alioth had done.
The young man remained observing the priest, trying to evaluate if all this was a trap.
However, the priest's face showed no murderous intention, rather, genuine boredom.
In turn, the priest had assured that he "still" wasn't going to do anything to him.
That on one hand meant that in the future, perhaps he would try to kill Alioth.
Or something worse.
But now, Alioth was safe.
After all, if the priest was going to lie he wouldn't have said anything about maybe doing something later.
After reflecting for a while, Alioth decided to sit in front of the priest.
His nervousness was undeniable, after all, he was nervous about the situation.
"Well, I see you're going to cooperate," the priest commented, though in his mind Alioth questioned whether he really had the option not to cooperate. "Though I see you somewhat nervous, do you want tea?"
Upon saying those words, two tea cups and a teapot manifested on the table, as if by magic.
Alioth hesitated at first, wondering if it was some kind of trap.
However, he remembered many scenes in movies, series and books, where something similar happened.
The affected person always came to the conclusion that if their enemy wanted to kill them, they could do it without resorting to methods like poison.
That situation was the same, since after all, that man could murder him in an instant.
Alioth simply nodded.
"Thanks," he said politely, but dryly, as he took the steaming tea cup in his hands.
The boy brought it to his lips and drank, discovering the beverage was at the perfect temperature.
But not only that, it also had a very pleasant sweet taste.
Upon drinking it, Alioth felt not only how his body relaxed, but also how it repaired and his energy was restored.
"I see you trust me, that's fine I suppose, it will make the conversation easier," the old man observed calmly, as he also took a sip of his tea.
Alioth had a terrible urge to correct the priest and tell him why he had taken the tea.
It wasn't because he trusted him, but because he knew that most surely, he could be easily killed in that place.
But he decided to keep quiet for his own good.
"You know, sometimes you plan something, and something completely different ends up happening," the man commented calmly. "Sometimes your plans are ruined even before starting, and you must change your strategy, it's really frustrating, don't you think?"
The man asked, with a tranquility characteristic of everyday conversation.
Alioth didn't really know what to respond to that.
The first thing that came to mind was when he failed at baseball, however that wasn't really what the priest was referring to.
Reflecting more, Alioth remembered the frustration he felt when not receiving a Devastra in the baptism ceremony.
That did align with the old man's words.
Alioth had planned to do the ceremony to awaken his Devastra and thus obtain ka, to thus be able to become a mage.
However, the story had been very different.
He failed the ceremony, didn't receive Devastra, didn't receive ka, and felt as frustrated as at the beginning.
However, in the end he changed plans, and ended up discovering he had a hidden ability that allowed him to invoke the powers of mythologies from his world.
Something impressive that allowed him to defend himself, and perhaps in the future would allow him to do magic.
It was like the saying: when God closes a door, he opens a window.
There was always a way to solve a problem, but that didn't remove the frustration one felt when their plans were ruined.
"Yes, a shit show without doubt," Alioth answered, trying to follow the old man's conversation.
It was better to talk to him than fight against him.
A much safer sport without doubt.
The old man nodded.
"Yes, though at the same time, perhaps this is for the best," the old man commented. "Tell me Alioth, why don't you join me?"
Alioth raised an eyebrow, not only because the question had confused and perplexed him.
But also because of how cliché it was for a villain to ask his rival to join him.
Alioth almost felt the urge to accept simply to break that cliché.
However, accepting would go against all his principles.
"What am I supposed to be joining exactly? The truth is I'm not very pleased you want to experiment on my body," Alioth commented.
As he did, the boy began to think of several escape routes, perhaps he would even have to resort to ending his life before the priest caught him.
After all, Alioth didn't feel like being experimented on.
Suffering didn't please him, and being dissected alive didn't excite him too much.
However, the priest didn't get angry, he simply shook his head dismissing that idea.
"No, I no longer plan to experiment on you, I thought about it and you know? I really don't need to be the one to take charge of this matter," the young man commented calmly. "What I propose won't cause you any harm, believe me... well, only if everything goes according to plan, but that should be the case."
Alioth looked at the priest with confusion, it really was strange that man was proposing something like that to him.
Though Alioth wasn't going to trust the priest's words so easily, after all the boy didn't even know what he wanted him to do or what the priest's plans were.
"The truth is, you're going to have to give me more information if you want me to collaborate with you," the young man responded seriously.
His tone was cold, and his words were calculated so it wouldn't sound like a rejection or that he was accepting to help him.
It was vital not to contradict that man.
However, the priest wasn't contrary, he almost seemed to expect that response.
"You're right, though before—" the man began to say. "Perhaps it would be more comfortable for both of us if I got rid of this 'disguise.'"
Alioth raised an eyebrow confused, what did that man mean by disguise?
The boy wasn't sure, but then he saw how little by little the priest's skin was turning to dust.
Something that didn't catch Alioth's attention, until he saw what was behind that mask.
Upon seeing it Alioth couldn't help but let out a scream.
"BROTHER!!!???"
