Chapter 70: Anansi’s Reflection.

The fresh air blew delicately in the central square.

The stars shone in the sky, painting it with all kinds of beautiful colors.

However, Anansi didn’t look at the beautiful stars that tinted the sky, but at the people scattered in front of the golden palace.

Her pupil had changed, it wasn’t her conventional pupil.

It had a semi-arc shape, with a point below. It also glowed an intense green color.

"Seems he passed through here," the witch commented coldly, as her hair waved in the wind.

She was observing everything from one of the nearby buildings, and she could see it, the modifications Epimetheus had made to each of the civilians.

However, the witch wasn’t going to let the priest get away with it, and with an elegant finger movement, her threads began to spread throughout the place, weaving a network between each Vanir whose Devastra had been contaminated.

The network extended, like fine indistinguishable threads.

Anansi with utmost delicacy selected a fragment of each victim’s history, a small fragment of their story, right when Epimetheus had touched them and altered their Devastra.

Then, with a graceful and elegant movement, Anansi pulled the threads, tearing out that small piece of each person’s history.

By doing so, she interceded not only in each Vanir’s past, but chained a series of causes and effects which ended up interfering in history.

The modification Epimetheus had caused in each Vanir had been purged, as if nothing had happened.

Thanks to the fact that event wasn’t so important, but tiny, and had also occurred recently, each Vanir’s history didn’t collapse.

"I suppose this will be enough," the witch deduced.

She knew the chaos leaving those Vanir with those modifications would cause, they could very surely destroy a large part of the city.

Besides, they would surely become a great nuisance if she didn’t deal with them now.

Prevention was better than cure.

"Now I’ll have to go after him, I hope I’m not too late," the girl commented, as she jumped toward the golden palace.

Anansi was certainly annoyed.

That guy, Epimetheus, was extremely irritating.

Supposedly he considered himself the "student" of her creator, however, Anansi was sure her father wouldn’t agree with that man.

After all, Epimetheus was doing the complete opposite of what he wanted.

Playing with Azoth, manipulating and creating blasphemous arts.

While Anansi had been entrusted with the mission of purifying the archetype spirits from the corruption caused by Azoth.

That fool was taking charge of corrupting the only society that had survived the corruption.

Though actually Anansi knew that wasn’t true.

Azoth hadn’t annihilated all of humanity as some said.

While yes, it had caused mutations and great catastrophes that reduced the population to a very low number.

She knew living beings still existed out there.

Many tribes, and even large civilizations.

While it was true they had mutated until becoming "demons," they were alive and had adapted to Azoth.

She had traveled through much of the planet, crossed seas, and traveled through deserts.

While the ancient civilization had been left in ruins, many other civilizations had been reborn from the ashes.

After all, there were areas with less Azoth than others, besides, thanks to her intervention, the world could recover much earlier.

However, it was true Anansi didn’t see the idea of purifying the entire planet as realistic.

It was practically impossible.

But one could adapt, and evolve.

Anansi had seen that was possible, if the amount of Azoth on the planet was sufficiently reduced, what remained of it would become less dangerous.

Nature had learned to adapt, and soon, the planet would have completely recovered from Azoth’s contamination.

Of course, it was also true that in Caelestia they didn’t know that.

The high command made sure to instill fear in the people so they wouldn’t think of leaving without permission.

According to them, all living beings had died, and only abominations of Xoth wandered around.

When she knew it was very false.

But she wasn’t going to be the one to tell the truth either, it wasn’t her mission, and they most surely wouldn’t listen to her.

But what was her mission was to fight against the spawn of Xoth and purify nature.

Something she took very seriously.

That’s why someone daring to create spawn or contaminate people with Azoth voluntarily was an absolute offense to her mission.

It was unforgivable.

Something repugnant.

Anansi didn’t know Epimetheus’s intentions.

Perhaps they weren’t so bad, perhaps he just wanted to create a way for people to survive Azoth.

However, the method he had employed had been nefarious.

Anansi knew it, she had discovered Epimetheus’s crimes.

He experimented on people, treating them as worthless objects for his ends.

"Tch... though perhaps I’m not the most suitable to judge him," the girl said to herself, as she walked through the palace’s interior.

A magical artifact on her finger, in the form of a ring, made her completely imperceptible to any of the senses.

Therefore, Anansi could easily sneak into the palace.

"Though at least he repented," Anansi continued in her reflection.

Her "father" had also experimented on gods and demigods, regardless of their age or gender.

He had done all kinds of horrible acts to crystallize the gods’ power and turn them into weapons.

The Devastra.

Thus those hereditary marks were born, through repugnant and horrible experiments against the gods.

Even if her "father" felt immense hatred toward the gods, he came to repent of those acts.

Atrocious acts without justification.

Though at least her father had an excuse, he had been deceived.

The demon goddess of tyranny.

She spoke to her father, in his most vulnerable moment, she poisoned his mind and deceived him.

Not only did she convince him to commit atrocities against the gods to create weapons capable of facing them.

She was the one who deceived him making him believe destroying the tower was a good idea.

However, by destroying the tower he only caused the apocalypse.

The demon goddess of tyranny’s true plan.

To cause the world’s destruction.

However, her "father" managed to act in time, he destroyed her and created Od’Zohar to save what remained of civilization.

Though even saving the world, his crimes weren’t forgotten.

His students, taking advantage of him being weakened, expelled her "father" from the refuge he himself had created.

It was something he understood, after all he felt guilty for everything he had done.

While he always had good intentions and reasons to hate the gods or even hate that world.

He simply accepted his punishment.

That’s when he entrusted Anansi with the mission of repairing the world, while staying alone to die in peace.

Anansi always reproached him for that.

She would have liked to stay with him, stay with her creator.

Yes, she was an experiment, a singularity created by him and one of the important pieces in his plan.

Her objective was to divert the other gods’ domain.

In the tower, the gods can manifest their purest power.

They are manifestations and utopian forms so abstract the earthly realm couldn’t describe them.

They have the ability to alter the primordial outer sea and alter it to create complete worlds or realities.

Facing such powerful beings wasn’t really realistic, however, her father only wanted to destroy the tower.

She had to use her ability to manipulate, steal and create stories to generate an unalterable field in space that would defend her side for a few seconds while he used the power he had managed to stack to destroy the tower.

That had been his plan, and that plan had worked.

However, it brought very serious consequences.

Besides, it had cost a lot.

The witch stopped walking for a few seconds, wondering if she could really defeat the demon goddess of tyranny.

"Can I really defeat her with my current power?" she wondered, indecisive.

Yes, she had been monstrously powerful, capable of rivaling the gods in power.

However, when the tower fell, a large part of her power was destroyed.

She lost a lot of power back then, and since that moment Anansi couldn’t use her powers like before.

You could say she had a limited amount of power she could use until disappearing completely.

If she reached the limit of power she could use, she would disappear.

It was like a battery that couldn’t be recharged.

That’s why she always tried to use external means or the Lwa to combat.

Though she didn’t like depending on others.

She had been very cautious when employing her power, but facing living archetypes corrupted by an outer essence wasn’t easy.

She had weakened quite a bit during her journey.

Perhaps she had half her power left before perishing.

But without doubt, if she faced the demon goddess of tyranny, she would have to go all out, she couldn’t hold back.

"Perhaps I won’t be able to see you again... Alioth," she said quietly, with some sadness.

Being a mother had been strange for her, but ridiculously gratifying.

However, while a part of her wanted to stay to take care of him, she knew a great truth.

She couldn’t leave that demon goddess alive.

For the first time in a long time, Anansi would have to go all out.
