Chapter 17: Can’t Handle This

When she checked, she saw that it was soaked with a white, sticky substance.

‘What is this?’

A sharp, fishy smell stung her nose. It was similar to the smell from between her legs but different from the scent of urine.

‘It smells like chestnut flowers....’

The color was similar to milk porridge but thicker and stickier. It looked like the secretion that came from between her legs during her mating season.

However, her secretion was much less and usually transparent.

‘What could this be?’

Although she didn’t know exactly what it was, she had a bad feeling.

Could Dohwi be in mating season too? She never noticed because it wasn’t obvious.

At that confusing moment, a thunderous voice came from outside.

“Are you in my room?”

Sohwa froze, her entire body turning cold as if she had fallen into an icy stream.

It was Dohwi.

She quickly put her undergarment back under the desk and rushed to open the door.

“A-are you back now?”

Dohwi stood there, looking at her with his usual languid eyes, holding colorful silk, flower shoes, and a large birdcage in his hands.

“What were you doing in my room?”

His question was flat, as if he already knew.

Sohwa’s lips went dry, and she couldn’t speak even though she knew he was waiting for an answer.

Dohwi looked at her quietly before chuckling.

“It’s been ages since you came into my room, you know.”

Then, saying he would make a delicious dinner, he headed to the kitchen.

Watching his broad back, Sohwa bit her nails.

‘What should I do? What do I do now?’

Was that foolish boy really in heat for her? Cause she was the only female close to him?

“I bought a hen at the market. You liked the quail last time, so I thought you would like this, too.

Dohwi popped his head out from the kitchen.

“I’ll make some stew, so wait a bit.”

“....”

Why was he so keen on preparing meals for her? To fatten her up and eat her?

She clenched her fists in anger but then shook her head.

‘No, he didn’t eat that male fox....’

The dead fox’s body had been torn apart, but there were no signs of it being eaten. If it had been prey, only the bones would have remained like with the deer.

It had been quite some time since he had given her the sachet. It was several years ago, ever since she started visiting the human village alone.

Somehow he managed to get coins that were used in human villages. With those coins, he bought coral, jade, and all sorts of items, and when she grew tired of wearing them, one day he bought a sheet of silk and made her a sachet.

Sohwa hated Dohwi for all his inexplicable actions. She had raised him into a fine young man, only to have him do such terrible things.

Glaring at the kitchen, she noticed the birdcage placed carelessly on the veranda. She couldn’t help but notice it.

It wasn’t made of bamboo. The cold, hard, and slippery material felt strange.

“I got it from a merchant from the Western lands. It’s made from melted metal, so it’s heavier than it looks.”

Dohwi, who had approached her without her noticing, pointed to the cage with a fond touch.

“I plan to keep a very pretty bird in here... It has quite a sharp temper, so it’ll be a problem if it tries to escape.”

Sohwa gasped. Their bodies were too close. She could feel Dohwi’s firm, thick thighs against her backside.

Whether he noticed her tension or not, Dohwi leaned down, bringing his lips to her ear.

“Do you want to try holding it?”

Lifting the cage with one finger, he offered it to Sohwa.

But Sohwa couldn’t move a bit due to the extreme tension that was built between the two.

The scent of Dohwi that she once thought refreshing now felt completely different.

It was undoubtedly the scent of a predator. Cold sweat ran down Sohwa’s forehead. She could only manage shallow breaths, and Dohwi, pressing his body against hers, finally put the cage down.

“If you don’t want to, never mind.”

He casually patted her shoulder and headed back to the kitchen, leaving Sohwa to collapse to the ground.

Her legs trembled as if she had barely escaped being eaten by a giant tiger. She felt as if she was being violated and played with by a satiated predator.

‘I can’t handle this anymore. I have to do something...!’

Sohwa picked up the red silk ribbon inside the birdcage. It was a collar. Despite saying he was going to keep a bird, the collar was more suited for a puppy.

It was exactly the right size for her neck.
