Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It-Chapter 232: What Trick Have You Come Up With to Anger Me Now?
After her surprise, Xu Su understood. If Shen Chen really only knew how to fool around with women and was a good-for-nothing in every other respect, he wouldn’t be able to completely take over the vast Shen Family in the future.
She gave a half-hearted reply, but Shen Chen didn’t seem to mind. He smiled and asked, "Have a major you’re interested in?"
Xu Su: "I haven’t really thought about it. Oh, right... what’s your major?"
"Economics and Finance. Brother Zhou and I are both majoring in it. Why, you interested?"
"Not really..." Xu Su had never given any thought to her future career before, but now, she was actually interested in talking with him. "Shen Chen, what major do you think I should pick for college?"
Shen Chen was taken aback by the question. After thinking it over, he didn’t give her a direct suggestion but patiently explained:
"It depends on what you’re interested in, Xu Su. When you’re choosing your major, don’t worry about job prospects. Just focus on what you like. Arts or sciences, it doesn’t matter. Don’t feel tied down by which track you were on in high school, you know? Just follow your heart and don’t worry about the rest."
’What am I interested in...’
Xu Su hesitated for a moment before saying uncertainly, "I’m pretty interested in math, but I don’t think I have any real talent for it. I don’t have a wild imagination; my current grades are just from grinding practice problems and memorizing formulas."
"You can’t be serious, Xu. You don’t actually think every math major becomes a mathematician, do you? Let me tell you, regardless of the major, aside from the absolute top geniuses, the vast majority of people end up in jobs that have nothing to do with what they studied."
After speaking in a shocked tone, Shen Chen suddenly dropped his usual devil-may-care attitude. "Don’t be afraid. Show some of that courage you have when you’re yelling at me. It’s not like you to be so timid about picking a major. If you’re interested, just do it. And if you’re worried you won’t land a high-paying job after graduation, I’ll be your safety net. I guarantee your salary won’t be any lower than those ’talented’ people."
They were clearly words meant to tease her, but Shen Chen’s tone was completely serious. Xu Su was taken aback. She could almost hear a hint of affection in his voice.
It gave her goosebumps. She quickly stood up. "I need to get back to class. Shen Chen, I have to go."
"Wait!" Shen Chen called out. "You almost never call me. What’s the rush to hang up?"
"...Is there something else?"
"Just a moment ago, you were asking me for help, and now your attitude has completely changed. Aren’t you just burning the bridge after you’ve crossed it?" Shen Chen tsked in mock disgust, but there was a smile in his voice. "I’ll come to Chang City to see you in a few days. To check if you’ve broken up with that little boyfriend of yours."
"..." Xu Su was speechless for a moment. She paused, having been about to stand up and hang up, and sat back down. "We broke up a while ago. You don’t need to worry about it. Zhou Mochen already found out. Do you think I had any other choice?"
"Brother Zhou found out?" On the other end of the line, Shen Chen was silent for a long while. When he finally spoke again, his voice was low. "Are you okay?"
His concerned tone made her heart skip a beat, and she grew inexplicably nervous. "Why would anything be wrong with me... Shen Chen, I have to go to class."
Without waiting to hear what Shen Chen would say next, Xu Su decisively ended the call.
She sat on the stone bench, frowning. She thought about it for so long her head started to hurt, so she decided to just stop thinking about it altogether.
Worried that Li Tingting’s stress and anxiety would be bad for the baby, Xu Su called her back.
Upon learning her husband wouldn’t be fired, Li Tingting thanked her profusely. Her fawning attitude made Xu Su extremely uncomfortable, but she couldn’t just be rude to a relative. She had to endure the awkward conversation until it was nearly time for class in the afternoon before she could finally head back.
The teachers had already covered all the high school course material by the end of junior year. Since senior year began, it had been mostly review and reinforcement.
All the teachers could do was find various classic problem types for the students to practice. There was a small quiz every three days and a major test every five, a relentless cycle of diagnostic exams and targeted review. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
There were four periods that afternoon. After the chemistry exam came the physics exam. Without waiting for the final bell, Xu Su finished her test, checked it over, and turned it in early.
It was Sunday. Even though school had been in session for over half a month, Xu Su had been on leave for so long that this was her first weekend back.
The seniors at City No.1 High School had a heavy academic load. Weekends were their only short break, as they didn’t have to attend evening self-study sessions.
However, most of the boarding students would voluntarily come to the classroom to study anyway. Xu Su wasn’t a boarder and had no plans to come for the evening session. After finishing her exam and checking it carefully, she turned it in over twenty minutes early and left the classroom.
She didn’t think Zhou Mochen would be there so early, but as soon as she stepped out of the academic building, she saw his familiar black SUV parked under a tree.
The school had a designated parking area for staff and didn’t allow parking anywhere else, but for the past few days, this spot had become Zhou Mochen’s exclusive space, and no one had done a thing about it!
Xu Su walked over and found the car locked. There was no one inside.
She glanced around and finally spotted a familiar figure in the distance, sitting on the bleachers by the athletic field with his back to her.
Some class was having P.E. on the field, and groups of boisterous, youthful students were scattered about, playing around.
As Xu Su got closer, she saw a boy in a school uniform on the basketball court leap into the air, a sliver of his abs showing. He gracefully threw the ball in a high arc, and it swished cleanly through the net.
Unsurprisingly, a wave of stifled gasps rose from the onlookers, and all the girls’ eyes were drawn to him.
"..." Xu Su didn’t recognize him, but she could tell he was probably very popular with the girls.
Zhou Mochen was watching quietly, seemingly lost in thought. He was so engrossed he didn’t even notice Xu Su approach until she sat down on the bleachers beside him. Only then did he turn his head to look at her.
He started, then glanced at his watch. "You got out early?"
Xu Su just nodded, her eyes fixed on the basketball court. She didn’t say anything.
She had been giving him the cold shoulder for days, ever since that morning. Zhou Mochen was silent for a moment before getting up and sitting down right next to her. He took her hand, lacing their fingers together tightly, and sighed. "Sweetheart, please stop being mad at me, okay?"
After having experienced such sweet and passionate moments with her, this one-sided cold shoulder was almost more than he could bear.
He would have preferred her to make a scene or throw a tantrum. Even a huge fight would be better than this silent treatment.
Zhou Mochen’s voice was laced with frustration. "Talk to me, Susu. Don’t ignore me. Don’t torture me like this anymore."
"..." Xu Su let him hold her hand. ’I don’t want to be this angry either,’ she thought. It was a trivial matter, something anyone would see as harmless, and Zhou Mochen hadn’t really done anything wrong.
’But whenever I think about it...’
Xu Su pursed her lips. Looking at the boy on the basketball court, she suddenly spoke. "He’s pretty handsome, isn’t he?"
A sharp pain shot through her fingers.
"What do you mean by that?" Zhou Mochen turned to her, his expression dark. "Have you thought of another way to piss me off? Xu Su, I’m warning you. If you dare develop any ideas about another man, I’ll strangle you."
