Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It-Chapter 230: Zhou Mochen, Are You Dreaming?
Faced with a barrage of questions from both Huang Feng and Qian Jia, Xu Su told them almost everything, except for the one thing she would never reveal, even on her deathbed: her rebirth. This included the complicated history between her and Zhou Mochen over the past two years.
After all, in both her past and present lives combined, she only had two friends who would unconditionally stand by her. Xu Su cherished them dearly. Best friends were supposed to tell each other everything and share their deepest secrets.
According to Huang Feng, the school had issued a notice strictly forbidding students from discussing what had happened on the field that day. The homeroom teachers of every grade and class had repeatedly drilled this into them.
As for Xi Zirong’s injury, Teacher Wu mentioned it once in class, saying it was nothing serious and that he would be able to return to school after a while.
Xu Su could finally let out a huge sigh of relief. In front of Zhou Mochen, she didn’t even dare to mention Xi Zirong’s name, let alone show the slightest bit of worry. Only now could she truly rest easy.
No matter what, she didn’t want anything to happen to Xi Zirong.
As soon as the bell rang for the lunch break, Xu Su walked out of the academic building and immediately spotted Zhou Mochen’s car parked under a large tree by the side of the campus road.
Xu Su’s steps faltered...
’I can’t believe he drove right onto school grounds.’ She hesitated for a moment before saying goodbye to Huang Feng and the others and walking over.
City No.1 High School had excellent employee benefits, so many teachers drove to and from work. At this time, several cars were driving toward the school gate one after another, so Zhou Mochen’s black SUV wasn’t particularly conspicuous.
But Xu Su herself was eye-catching. Wherever she went, she was basically the center of attention.
Xu Su walked to the car, pulled open the passenger door, and got in. This whole process was witnessed by quite a few students.
Inside the car.
Only after Xu Su had buckled her seatbelt did Zhou Mochen step on the gas and turn the steering wheel. As he did, he asked, "Are you a little less angry now?"
Xu Su didn’t say a word.
The car drove out of the school gates and remained silent all the way to the underground garage of Imperial Central. After he turned off the engine, Xu Su was about to get out.
Zhou Mochen suddenly said with a smile, "Does it really bother you that much? How about I go and gouge her eyes out?"
Xu Su was startled and shot her head up. "Don’t you go crazy!"
’She didn’t think for a second that he was joking.’
Seeing that Xu Su had finally deigned to look him in the eye, Zhou Mochen’s tight grip on the steering wheel loosened slightly. The frustration that had been building all morning finally settled. "Then what should I do? Susu, don’t give me the cold shoulder. I can’t stand it. Just tell me what I need to do to make you stop being angry."
"..." Xu Su pulled open the car door and strode toward the elevators.
They didn’t speak again until they were inside the apartment. After changing her shoes, washing her hands, and sitting down in the dining room, just as the last of Zhou Mochen’s patience with her coldness was about to run out, she finally spoke. "Where’s Gu Yue? This morning was your fault. You were the one running around without a shirt on. Don’t blame her."
"...She went back to Beijing." Zhou Mochen sat down next to her, serving her soup and putting food on her plate. He coaxed her good-naturedly, "It was my fault. Susu, you set the terms. Punish me however you want. Just please don’t give me the cold shoulder, okay?"
Thinking about what happened that morning, Xu Su gritted her teeth. "Let me be honest with you. I’m a very petty person. I can’t stand it when what’s mine gets tainted by others. Zhou Mochen, if anything like what happened today happens again, whether you did it on purpose or not, I’ll be done with you entirely."
’I’ll be done with you entirely...’
The hand Zhou Mochen was using to pick up food froze, and his expression darkened instantly. He slowly placed the vegetables into Xu Su’s bowl before setting down his chopsticks.
He reached out and grabbed her arm. His voice was still relatively calm. "What did I say before? Susu, I don’t accept breakups for any reason. I don’t want to hear those words again."
’I don’t accept breakups for any reason?’ Hearing it back then, she hadn’t thought much of it, but now, it sounded utterly ridiculous.
Xu Su scoffed. "Is that some kind of gangster logic you came up with? By that reasoning, if you were to cheat on me with some other woman one day, I still wouldn’t be allowed to break up with you? Zhou Mochen, are you dreaming?"
"Are you determined to pick a fight with me?" Zhou Mochen stared at her, silent for a moment before saying, "You know perfectly well I would never do that. Xu Su, ask yourself, do you really think I would cheat on you?"
"Who knows? Who can say for sure what will happen in the future? What if you have another ’unintentional’ incident?"
Xu Su sneered, "Look, wasn’t it ’unintentional’ this morning when you let another woman see you half-naked?"
’She felt a bit pathetic herself, like she was deliberately picking a fight, but she really couldn’t get over her frustration.’ 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
’When something that, in your subconscious, belongs completely and utterly to you is glimpsed by someone else... that kind of vexation made Xu Su want to grab Zhou Mochen and beat him up.’
’But she didn’t want to show that she cared too much about it. Or rather... she hadn’t yet realized that she cared about Zhou Mochen far more than she thought.’
Right now, Xu Su just couldn’t swallow her anger. Acting on the idea that if she was going to be miserable, Zhou Mochen should be too, she directed her anger at him with this passive-aggressive attitude.
Xu Su, who could normally polish off two bowls of rice, only ate one for lunch in her gloomy mood.
After a few sarcastic remarks from Xu Su, Zhou Mochen stopped talking. With a livid expression, he picked at his food and then, at her urging, drove her back to school.
And so, not long after their relationship had properly begun, the two fell into their first cold war. For several days, they barely exchanged a few normal words.
It was mainly a one-sided cold war on Xu Su’s part.
For the past few days, no matter what Zhou Mochen said or did, Xu Su ignored him completely. She would come home at noon, just focus on eating, and when she got back in the evening, she would go straight to her room to sleep.
Xi Zirong hadn’t returned to school yet, but no one in the entire school dared to discuss that incident anymore. Xu Su’s school life had also returned to normal.
However, compared to before, her classmates now suspected that she and Xi Zirong had broken up because she had latched onto someone rich. One by one, they became reluctant to interact with her.
Fortunately, Xu Su wasn’t someone who particularly enjoyed being the center of attention, and she wasn’t close to many of her classmates anyway, so their change in attitude didn’t affect her at all.
This day, after lunch, Xu Su had just returned to the classroom and hadn’t even warmed her seat yet when her phone rang.
It was an unknown number. The caller ID showed it was a local call from Chang City. She hesitated for a moment, then answered.
"Susu, is that you? It’s Li Tingting." A familiar, anxious female voice came through the phone.
Xu Su was taken aback. "It’s me. Sister Tingting, what’s up?"
A muffled noise came from the other end, as if someone had covered the receiver. She could faintly hear a man’s voice yelling something, but she couldn’t make it out clearly.
After a long moment, Li Tingting spoke again. "I’m calling to apologize to you. I’m so sorry you got hurt on my wedding day. I only just managed to get your number today. Susu, can you forgive me and your brother-in-law?"
Xu Su listened patiently. When she finished, she said in a low voice, "Sister Tingting, it’s all in the past. It wasn’t your fault, and I’m not mad at you. If anything, I should be the one apologizing to you for making such a mess of your wedding."
