Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Don’t Even Touch Me Right Now

"So petty! Xu Su, tell me, does this guy like you too?" Xi Zirong’s voice was laced with fury as he clutched the girl tightly in his arms. He practically snarled, "You are not to accept gifts from other men. You are not to go out at night to meet anyone else!"

"Tell me, where did you dig up this new love rival? Xu Su, why is he giving you a birthday gift?"

As they were talking, a couple of students walked by not far off. Xu Su could only stand there stiffly, listening to his low voice. She had never seen Xi Zirong act like this before, and for a moment, she was both angry and at a loss.

He was so overwrought that Xu Su, held in his embrace, could feel his body trembling.

Xu Su was angry. With her usual temper, she would have lost it with him by now. But in the end, her concern for him won out.

Finally, she wrapped her arms around his waist, trying to patiently soothe him. "Let go of me first. This isn’t the place to talk. Xi Zirong, don’t be like this. What will our classmates think if they see us?"

Xi Zirong scoffed. "Let them see. Everyone knows you’re my girlfriend. Xu Su, what are you so afraid of?"

As he spoke, as if to prove a point, he pressed his lips to Xu Su’s ear and pecked it slowly.

His hot breath flooded her ear as he spoke, and Xu Su felt her composure completely shatter. She frantically turned her head away, struggling against him. "What the hell is wrong with you, Xi Zirong? I’m telling you one last time, let go of me."

The struggle in the dark, her resistance and his suppression, was dangerously intense—at least, that’s how it felt to Xi Zirong. When she pressed her hands against his chest to shove him away one more time, he couldn’t hold back any longer and acted on his impulse.

Xu Su was caught completely off guard by the kiss. Compared to the fleeting, touch-and-go kiss on his birthday, this one could only be described as brutal.

For a disoriented moment, she almost thought the person in front of her was Zhou Mochen.

She struggled desperately for what felt like an eternity. The instant she found an opening, her hand flew out uncontrollably, and the force of the slap snapped Xi Zirong’s head to the side.

The phone in her pocket was vibrating nonstop—it was probably Shen Chen, getting impatient—but Xu Su was in no state to deal with it.

She stared at the boy before her, motionless with his head still turned to the side, and asked softly, "Have you come to your senses?"

Xi Zirong flinched but otherwise didn’t react.

Xu Su continued, "If you have, then get out of my way."

She told him to move, but they weren’t actually in a corner. There was plenty of room to walk past him on either side.

Without another word, Xu Su started to walk around him. Just as she was about to pass, Xi Zirong moved.

He tried to grab her again, but she dodged out of the way. "Don’t touch me! Don’t you lay a single finger on me right now!"

Xi Zirong’s hand froze in midair, and he silently watched her walk away.

Only after she was a good distance away did Xu Su remember to roughly wipe her mouth with her sleeve. Finally, she slumped onto a nearby bench, utterly dejected. ’She had no idea what to do.’

’How had that gentle, polite boy learned a move like a forced kiss?’

’If he really wanted a kiss, it’s not like I wouldn’t have let him. Why did he have to do it when I didn’t want him to...?’

The phone in her pocket was vibrating steadily and without pause. When Xu Su took it out to look, she saw that in just that short time, Shen Chen had already called more than a dozen times.

Since she wasn’t answering, he’d even sent a text message.

Already annoyed, her anger flared when she saw that the culprit responsible for her fight with Xi Zirong was still calling. Xu Su hit the answer button and snapped, "Are you trying to bug me to death? Shen Chen, is there something wrong with you? Why do you keep calling? Can’t you just give it a rest!"

"Call, call, call! If I don’t pick up, it means I’m busy! It means it’s not a good time! Are you crazy, calling over and over? Do you think the world revolves around you? That I have to pick up the second you call?"

This verbal assault stunned Shen Chen into silence on the other end of the line.

By the time he thought of something to say, Xu Su had already hung up.

Ten minutes later, Xu Su walked out of the school gates. In the same spot as before, a black Bentley was parked quietly.

When he saw her emerge, Shen Chen got out of the driver’s seat and called out, "Did you get detention or something? Why are you so explosive?"

Just as Xu Su was about to reply, the passenger-side door opened. Zhou Mochen stepped out and closed the distance between them in a few strides. They hadn’t seen each other in over two months, and he seemed to want to get a good look at her, his unblinking gaze locked on her face.

Xu Su froze, reflexively turning her head to avoid his gaze. "Why are you here too?"

Then it hit her. ’Of course he’s here. He knew Shen Chen was coming to see me tonight; there’s no way he wouldn’t tag along. What a stupid question.’

Zhou Mochen ignored her question. He reached out, took her chin, and turned her face toward him. Frowning, he asked, "What happened to your lips?"

Under the dim light of the streetlamp, Xu Su’s lips looked slightly swollen and unnaturally red.

". . . !" Xu Su’s eyes widened. She stared blankly for a two-second beat before retorting, "What’s wrong with them? They’re just a little dry and chapped lately, that’s all."

She irritably smacked his hand away. "What did you think it was?"

Her reaction was so natural that the frown on Zhou Mochen’s face eased slightly.

’Just a moment ago, he’d thought...’

Xu Su shot a glare at Shen Chen, who was enjoying the show from the sidelines. "What are you looking at?"

She was a good ten feet away from Shen Chen, and the streetlight was too dim. Otherwise, with a man of his experience, he would have likely known exactly what was wrong with her lips at a single glance.

Compared to the handful of kisses from Zhou Mochen, Shen Chen had so much... field experience, he’d probably lost count himself.

He had a very sharp eye.

Xu Su, oblivious to all this, continued to rail at Shen Chen, her expression sour. "You were just asking for a yelling-at, calling over and over again. You’re going to annoy me to death!"

Although they hadn’t known each other for long, Shen Chen was already used to her sharp tongue, so he didn’t get angry. He held out the item in his hands. "Alright, alright, my bad. I shouldn’t have kept calling. Calm down, Xu. Here, I exchanged it for a style more suited to a student. You can’t refuse this time, okay?"

He took a few steps closer to make it easier for her to take the box. As his gaze swept over her face, he suddenly froze, and the smile on his lips slowly vanished.

Puzzled, Xu Su touched her own face. Seeing his expression darken, she asked, "What are you staring at?"

Zhou Mochen shot a glance at Shen Chen before taking the watch box from his hand and opening it. The watch inside was indeed much more understated, just as Shen Chen had said, but the band was still rose gold.

’For some reason, the guy was obsessed with that color.’

"Just take it." After a quick look, Zhou Mochen closed the box and handed it to Xu Su. "Are you hungry? Let’s go get something to eat."

Xu Su shook her head. "No, I’m not going. It’s getting late. I just want to go back and sleep."

’It was already past ten. She had no intention of going back to the classroom. Going home early to sleep sounded better than anything else right now.’

Zhou Mochen didn’t press the issue. "Are you free on your birthday?" he asked instead. "I want to celebrate with you. Susu, it’s your eighteenth birthday. Don’t just let it pass by."
