Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 349: Shall We Go Together? (4th Update)
"Xu Yi, should we make contact with them?" Zhou Chun asked, holding an iron spear in his hand.
Now, with a Black Qilin in their ranks, even if the other side has guns, they can hide behind the Black Qilin, naturally giving them more confidence than before.
Xu Yi glanced at the lights over there and squinted his eyes.
"Alright, let’s make contact and assess the situation." Xu Yi had already figured things out; cooperation is the only way forward.
How terrifying the Jungle Area might be is still unknown to everyone, but the Desert’s Fierce Beasts aren’t easy to handle either.
If everyone gets to the Jungle Area and finds it impossible to survive, they could retreat to the Desert and fight amongst themselves for resources; it wouldn’t be too late.
"Everyone, get behind the Black Qilin; we still need to be cautious," Xu Yi said. After all, the Black Qilin’s Defense Power is significantly stronger than the giant lizard and Desert Scale Wolf; even his dagger struggles to penetrate it.
Upon hearing this, everyone moved behind the Black Qilin, waiting for the other party to approach.
After about twenty minutes, another squad appeared fifty meters away.
"Hello, we are with team 221, 95, and 017. Can we have a chat?" a woman’s voice called from afar, speaking in English.
"Sure," Xu Yi responded, poking his head out. The other party seemed sincere; otherwise, they wouldn’t have gotten this close.
At such a close distance, if Xu Yi’s group initiated an attack, the other side wouldn’t be able to resist. Moreover, that’s without using rifles.
With rifles, they’d be sitting ducks.
"I’m Lavinie, pleased to meet you," the woman calling out stepped toward Xu Yi’s group.
Xu Yi stood up, signaling Lu Ke and the others to stay seated.
Soon, the group of six approached.
Upon seeing the Black Qilin, the newcomers were startled.
Xu Yi’s light hadn’t been shining on the Black Qilin before, so they hadn’t noticed it. Perhaps if they had seen the Black Qilin, they wouldn’t have come so close so quickly.
"Oh my God, you’ve tamed a beast!" Lavinie said in shock. After all, it’s only the fifth day in the Desert, and someone has already tamed a creature with such impressive combat and Defense Power?
If the Black Qilin didn’t have a muzzle on, they would have turned and fled.
Xu Yi smiled and nodded, quite satisfied with their astonishment.
This counts as intimidation, at least deterring them from harboring any unkind intentions.
"I’m Jerry, the team leader. Nice to meet you," a freckled man extended his hand towards Xu Yi, evidently recognizing him as the leader.
"I’m Xu Yi," Xu Yi briefly introduced himself.
Then Lu Ke and others also briefly introduced themselves, and the other team did the same.
"Xu Yi, are you headed south as well?" Jerry asked, revealing the purpose of his team’s approach.
"Yes, and you are too, I assume?" Xu Yi directly acknowledged, considering there’s not even any vegetation in the Desert; a lie wouldn’t hold.
"Exactly, we’re headed to the southern Jungle Area as well. So, could we accompany each other on the journey? With two teams, we can jointly face any monsters we encounter, significantly reducing the chance of elimination," Jerry said frankly, as this was indeed his purpose. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Indeed, the more people, the safer. We agree to accompany, but our teams should maintain some distance; I think around ten meters is appropriate. This way, during an attack, we can provide support without interfering with each other," Xu Yi shared his thoughts, as everyone was still unfamiliar. Staying too close might generate friction.
Since nobody knows how far the Jungle Area is, the longer the coexistence, the more likely friction would arise.
Lavinie nodded, giving Xu Yi a thumbs up, saying, "Your suggestion is very reasonable; keeping some distance is more suitable."
"Thank you. We’ll maintain some distance. If anything happens, we’ll give it our all to fight alongside you," Jerry agreed, considering Xu Yi’s group had a Black Qilin; in case of unexpected situations, ten meters would allow them to retreat quickly without being affected first.
"We can promise to give it our all during a battle," Xu Yi said, extending a friendly hand toward Jerry.
After a handshake, Jerry led his group to create some distance.
Xu Yi’s group also set off, as it was only a bit past seven, allowing them to travel for another three hours.
At eleven o’clock, Xu Yi’s group finally stopped.
Jerry’s team stopped as well.
Then they all pulled out their sleeping bags to prepare for rest.
"You guys go ahead and sleep; I’ll take the first half of the night," Lu Ke offered, feeling Xu Yi needed the rest.
That afternoon, she stayed near the Black Qilin, and it didn’t attack her. Lu Ke believed the Black Qilin had become familiar with her scent, so if she kept watch next to Xu Yi, the Black Qilin likely wouldn’t object.
"Alright, you four keep your distance from the Black Qilin; I’ll tie the rein to my wrist. If anything happens, I’ll wake up immediately," Xu Yi agreed, knowing Lu Ke wanted him to rest well.
He could enter Spiritual Meditation and use Spiritual Vision to keep an eye on the Black Qilin, ensuring it couldn’t harm Lu Ke.
"Brother Xu, why don’t I take over; we can stay further apart," Zhou Mo offered, thinking he should contribute more as the youngest.
"No need, you sleep," Xu Yi directly declined Zhou Mo’s offer, then stroked the Black Qilin and nodded to Lu Ke.
Tame!
Xu Yi used the skill again.
To Xu Yi’s surprise, he succeeded.
Xu Yi couldn’t help but smile as he noticed the Black Qilin looked at him more gently.
He proceeded to try five more times without any success.
After having the Black Qilin lie down, Xu Yi pulled out his sleeping bag, tied the rein to his wrist, and nestled beside the Black Qilin inside his sleeping bag.
Then Xu Yi entered the Spiritual Meditation state, activating Spiritual Vision.
The reason he asked Jerry’s team to stay ten meters away was that his Spiritual Vision range was only this far; otherwise, Xu Yi would have let them move even further away.
Lu Ke sat just over a meter away from the Black Qilin, holding a powerful crossbow, listening intently to the surrounding sounds.
In the deep night, past two o’clock, she suddenly heard the sound of snake tongues flicking, densely and numerous. She startled awake and let out a piercing scream.
Only a scream could alert Jerry’s group; shouting might not suffice in intensity.
