Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 285: The Tiger and the Elephant
Outside the camp, a few elephants arrived.
Yes, they were indeed elephants.
So, Ju Ha was barking, signaling a warning.
It had now integrated into Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s team, and in its eyes, it was one with Xu Yi and Lu Ke. So, naturally, it needed to signal when danger was near.
"There are actually elephants here," Lu Ke remarked with surprise; it was her first time seeing elephants in real life.
The elephants also noticed Xu Yi and Lu Ke, but they did not attack them.
Most likely, they were attracted by the firelight.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke had no intention of attacking the elephants either, as they still had plenty of jerky.
Moreover, Xu Yi thought elephant meat was probably not tasty, otherwise, poachers wouldn’t only want the tusks. Normally, the larger the animal, the coarser the muscle fibers and the tougher the meat.
Unless it had a hard shell, and the harder the shell, the more tender the meat.
"Xu Yi, what should we do now? Should we try to drive them away?" Lu Ke asked, as it was only a little past three, and if Ju Ha kept barking, neither she nor Xu Yi would get any sleep.
"Hmm, let’s see if we can drive them away," Xu Yi said, as he hadn’t intended to kill the elephants, and certainly wouldn’t use any weapons.
So he made some noise, attempting to scare away the elephants.
But instead, the elephants just lay down, making themselves comfortable.
Xu Yi helplessly spread his hands, knowing that provoking wild elephants wasn’t a good idea.
If they attack, they can kill people.
"I’ll go calm Ju Ha, if we can’t drive them away, so be it; there’s no real danger," Xu Yi said, then went downstairs.
Opening the door, Ju Ha became agitated, ready to rush out. Fortunately, it was tied up, otherwise it might have charged out to attack the wild elephants.
Xu Yi went over and calmed Ju Ha, which gradually settled down.
Then Xu Yi went back upstairs, ready to sleep again.
But as soon as he was back in the room, after drinking some warm water and before falling asleep, there were other sounds outside.
A few tigers appeared and began attacking the elephants.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke stood on the porch, watching the six fierce tigers appear, and couldn’t help but frown.
Ju Ha probably smelled the scent of the tigers and, after barking a couple of times, fell silent, likely realizing there were too many tigers.
In terms of size, Ju Ha was slightly bigger than the tiger.
In terms of fighting ability, Ju Ha couldn’t match the tigers.
At least in a one-on-one battle, Ju Ha would certainly lose. Unless Ju Ha could be as big as a buffalo, then it might have a chance to defeat a tiger.
Having so many tigers appear nearby is definitely not a good sign.
In their world, tigers are the kings of the jungle, and here, they hold significant power.
Moreover, with so many in the group, their combat power is even more terrifying.
With so many, there’s absolutely no way Xu Yi and Lu Ke can win.
Although they’re attacking the elephants now, Xu Yi worries that at any moment, they could turn on him and Lu Ke, which would be dangerous.
"Let’s burn some oil," Xu Yi and Lu Ke said simultaneously. They usually collected animal fat, storing what they didn’t use for food in the stilt house to ward off unmanageable animals.
Lu Ke immediately went to burn the oil, while Xu Yi retreated into the house, observing the situation outside from the doorway.
The tigers surrounded one elephant, preventing it from escaping.
The other elephants tried to drive away the tiger group, but the tigers’ attack power was too strong, quickly clawing wounds on the elephants.
So, those elephants soon fled, leaving one companion behind.
If it were a wolf pack, they wouldn’t abandon a comrade unless there were only one or two left after the leaders had been taken out.
The abandoned elephant foresaw its fate, screaming and running, trying to break through and escape.
Soon, it ran into the darkness.
The roars of the tigers and the cries of the elephant continued, but soon only the tiger’s roars remained.
It’s clear the elephant was killed, becoming the tigers’ prey.
The oil in the two clay pots began to boil, sending up hot steam.
Lu Ke and Xu Yi sat in front of the fire, listening to the sounds outside.
Occasionally, cries came through, likely from the tigers fighting over food.
One elephant was enough to fill them up.
Xu Yi just hoped they’d leave the vicinity of their camp after eating.
Otherwise, the danger would persist.
Six tigers are too many; if there were two, Xu Yi, Lu Ke, and Ju Ha together wouldn’t feel much pressure handling them.
Without confirming they’ve left, Xu Yi and Lu Ke didn’t dare to sleep.
Xu Yi suggested Lu Ke sleep, but she said she couldn’t.
In truth, Xu Yi knew Lu Ke just wanted to face it together with him.
"This must be the greatest crisis Xu Yi and Loli Ke have faced, six tigers, no way to handle them."
"If they could forge iron into arrowheads, at least they could shoot two tigers. Then, they could slowly manage the remaining four."
"Easier said than done, these are tigers, top predators on our planet."
"Didn’t expect so many people are still awake, staying in their livestream room?"
"Don’t you know there’s a southern and northern hemisphere? It’s daytime here."
"How will Xu Yi and Lu Ke resolve this crisis, are they going to rely on just two pots of oil?"
"Maybe the tigers will leave after a while, after all, the elephant meat is plenty, enough for them to feast on. Once full, wouldn’t they head back to their den?"
"Whoa, why is Xu Yi going downstairs?"
"Isn’t he going to check the situation? That’s too reckless, too overconfident in his abilities. Don’t forget, you were scratched by the Bear Beast the other day."
"Ridiculous, how could Xu Yi be checking the situation? He must be getting something."
Xu Yi didn’t know so many people were still watching their livestream, worrying for them.
After going downstairs, he headed towards the deer pen.
Over there, there were some thick wooden rods, which Xu Yi needed to make spears.
Just relying on two clay pots of oil wouldn’t deal with six tigers; at most, it might injure two or three.
Tigers could climb up to their stilt house, so long weapons were very important.
That’s why Xu Yi bravely ran down to grab those wooden rods.
Carrying three rods, Xu Yi ran back towards the stilt house.
During the run, Xu Yi frowned. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Because judging by the sounds, those fierce tigers roared and seemed to be running in his direction.
