Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 166: So Envious It Hurts
"So, we need to work even harder. Xu Yi and Lu Ke have worked hard too, otherwise they wouldn’t have so many resources and such a good camp. All of this was created by their own hands." Lu Yao encouraged Wang Jin with her words, while also motivating herself.
Wang Jin felt that some things couldn’t be solved by effort alone.
For example, a squat toilet; she didn’t have the skill to make one. That requires talent.
She had seen the pottery made by Xu Yi and his group; they were all very well made.
She and Lu Yao spent dozens of nights and tried several times, only to successfully fire a few bowls. Moreover, compared to Xu Yi’s group, theirs looked very rough.
Lu Yao patted Wang Jin’s arm, then went on to handle the fox carcass. She needed to skin it, then slice the meat to smoke into jerky.
Needless to say, there was still a lot of work to do at night, and there could be no delay.
An overwhelmed Wang Jin returned to the earthen stove to continue cooking rabbit meat.
After cooking, Wang Jin brought the pot to the table and served it into bowls.
Then, after having dinner with Lu Yao, they began to process the fox carcass together.
It was past 11 o’clock when the two finished and finally had some free time.
Sitting in front of the campfire, Wang Jin looked at the slices of meat dripping with oil.
She had never eaten fox meat before.
Previously, when she went to the zoo, she found the foxes’ odor very unpleasant. But today, the two they hunted did not have such an unbearable smell.
So, she thought it should taste pretty good.
Unfortunately, they were already full from dinner, so they didn’t plan on having a late-night snack. However, Lu Yao saved some meat to cook in the morning.
"Team 115, voluntarily forfeiting and withdrawing from the challenge."
A notification broke the silence of the camp.
"Sis, with such heavy rain, do you think Lu Ke and Xu Yi will be alright?" Wang Jin thought, if Xu Yi and Lu Ke were eliminated, it would be such a pity, such a waste.
After all, she really wanted to cooperate with Lu Ke and Xu Yi.
"They should be fine. Their abilities are stronger than ours, they probably found a safe place to rest." Lu Yao looked at the storm outside and reassured Wang Jin.
She felt fortunate to have brought Wang Jin to Xu Yi’s camp; otherwise, being in the jungle might not have been safe.
Such heavy rain lasting so long could easily form a flash flood.
Perhaps the flash flood was what the just withdrawn Team 115 encountered.
"When we leave tomorrow, should we leave them a fox pelt? After all, we’ve stayed the night and burned so much of their firewood." Wang Jin thought about it and agreed with Lu Yao.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke are definitely stronger than Lu Yao and herself, and spending a night in the jungle shouldn’t be a problem for them. Her worries seemed unnecessary, just senseless anxiety.
"Yeah, considering we used so much of their stuff, a bit of compensation is in order. But, wouldn’t one pelt be too little?" Lu Yao originally planned to leave both fox pelts for Xu Yi and Lu Ke.
"It should be enough, considering they already have quite a few pelts of their own." Wang Jin glanced at Xu Yi’s room, where pelts not only covered the bed but several tripods were securing some raw skins too.
"Alright then, let’s leave one for now and compensate later with something else. Go get a tripod; let’s secure the fox pelt to save them the effort." With that said, Lu Yao chose the better-looking fox pelt.
Then Wang Jin took a tripod, and the two secured the fox pelt, scraping off extra grease.
"Sis, since there’s still an empty tripod, should we set up our fox pelt to dry overnight too? Otherwise, it would shrink and waste a good pelt." Wang Jin suggested to Lu Yao, considering there were extra tripods available.
"Sure, go grab it, and let’s move this one inside." Lu Yao agreed; since they were using it, there’s no need to be too reserved.
After handling the pelts, the sisters stretched their necks.
"Sis, where will we sleep tonight, in their beds?" Fatigue was setting in for Wang Jin, thinking a good night’s sleep might ensure the rain would stop by morning.
"Yeah, take the pelts off the beds; that’s better." Lu Yao added more firewood to the campfire, then went into the house with Wang Jin.
"Sis, is this a palm mattress? I never imagined Xu Yi and Lu Ke could make these; is there anything they’re not capable of?" Wang Jin felt at a loss for words, eager to join Xu Yi’s group and enjoy a wilderness vacation lifestyle with them.
"..." Indeed, is there anything Lu Ke and Xu Yi can’t do?
For the first time, Lu Yao was genuinely intrigued by a man and a woman.
"So comfortable, it’s been ages since I slept on such a soft bed; this is bliss." Wang Jin felt reluctant to leave Xu Yi’s camp.
"Alright, go to sleep." With a flick to Wang Jin’s forehead, although she found the bed comfortable too, Lu Yao urged her to sleep.
Wang Jin playfully stuck her tongue out, then lay down, finding a comfortable position.
Before long, both Wang Jin and Lu Yao were asleep.
Outside, the storm continued unabated.
"Xu Yi, how come you’re up so early?" Lu Ke, upon waking, saw Xu Yi already standing at the entrance of the cave.
Outside, the rain kept pouring.
"Just woke up, getting some rainwater to boil." Xu Yi turned and replied.
"How is it still raining so hard?" Lu Ke got off the Bone Wolf hide and stretched. She thought the storm would last only a night.
"Rain is good; it helps mask our scent." Xu Yi cracked a grin and brought in the filled pot.
"Are we preparing to head back?" Lu Ke asked, preparing to go through the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening.
The cave had plenty of space and height, enough to practice the Eighteen Forms. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Yeah, if those Fierce Beasts have left, it’s better. If not, we’ll leave during the storm." Xu Yi set the pot and looked outside.
For now, relocating to this camp wasn’t feasible. There were still many tasks to complete at the other site, and significant modifications were needed here.
After all, it was only the 39th day; time was still abundant, so there was no rush.
Lu Ke nodded and continued her Eighteen Forms.
They boiled enough water, then packed their baskets and left the cave.
Carefully, they headed for the edge of the jungle.
Xu Yi wanted to see if those Fierce Beasts were still around. If not, that would be for the best.
If they were, they’d skirt along the edge of the jungle and retrace their steps from yesterday.
