Little Miss Devil: The President’s Mischievous Wife-Chapter 638
Lu Xinyi knew that her husband wouldn’t be happy once he found out what she did today, but her conscience would never allow her to disregard his uncle’s wishes. Even if she hated her own aunt, Sun Mingai deserved to know the truth. It had been almost half a year since she and her husband discovered the ring on her mother’s possession.
She wasn’t sure what would change after this, but she hoped that this would not only free herself and Shen Yi from the trouble from the past but also allow Sun Mingai to redeem herself and live in peace.
Her mother had once told her that life was too short to wake up with regrets, that she should love the people who treat her right and forget those who don’t. Sun Meixiu also reminded her and her brother that everything happened for a reason, and if there was a second chance, neither of them should waste it.
Nobody said life would be easy, but it was certainly worth it.
However, before they arrived at the Sun Estate, the Bloody Wolves had scouted the area for possible dangers or threats. They wanted to rest assured that Feng Zexian’s men weren’t around, waiting for Lu Xinyi.
Beside her, Sun Feiyan looked outside the window of the living area of the Sun Estate they were in. She also didn’t know why her cousin sought her company today given that they hadn’t really had a good relationship to begin with. However, the promise to seek closure and freedom from the Sun family sounded so enticing to her.
As she looked around, she wasn’t surprised to see that the estate lost its prestige overnight; and this was more like an abandoned manor in her opinion. To start off with, there was a thin layer of dust on almost everything, from picture frames to furniture, to marble floors that needed some extensive cleaning anytime soon.
She took note of the dust collected earlier while they were walking through the front hall; evidently, their aunt wasn’t living well these days.
Sun Feiyan lifted her head as a servant placed a tray of snacks and tea on the coffee table. Neither she nor Lu Xinyi took it, but the latter gave the servant a genuine smile and thanked her for the snacks.
“So how’s the wedding preparation going?” Lu Xinyi suddenly asked her as they waited for Sun Mingai to arrive.
“Troublesome, but I guess that’s only the start of married life, isn’t it?” Sun Feiyan shrugged.
The little devil let out a low laugh. Well, at least her cousin was starting to work on the happiness she also deserved to have.
“Look, I’m glad that you’ve helped me unknowingly all these years, but it’s time someone told you to take care of yourself.”
“I’m perfectly fine, Lu Xinyi,” Sun Feiyan scoffed and crossed her arms over her chest.
“I sure do hope so.” Lu Xinyi grinned back.
Footsteps could be heard coming their way, halting the conversations between two women. They both saw Sun Mingai walking towards them with a bored expression on her face.
“My, my. Who would have thought that my two traitorous nieces would still have time to visit me this time?” The words that came out of her lips were more of a statement than a question, with her eyes narrowing at the sight of Lu Xinyi and Sun Feiyan sitting next to each other.
Lu Xinyi was wearing a high-neck floral chiffon blouse and a fitted black pencil skirt. On her feet was a pair of high black heels. Beside her sat Sun Feiyan, donning a simple gray dress that had a skirt reaching past her knees. On her ring finger glimmered a diamond engagement ring.
Lu Xinyi gave her a weak smile and crossed her legs.
“Well, seeing the person who caused my mother’s death, aren’t you feeling guilty, Aunt Mingai?” The little devil asked with sarcasm in her tone.
The smile on the old woman’s face faltered as she glared back at Lu Xinyi. This woman had singlehandedly destroyed everything she worked on for decades as revenge for Sun Meixiu.
“You know you need strong evidence to back up your claims, Madam Shen. Mere hearsay wouldn’t be enough to pin the blame of your mother’s death on me.”
Sun Mingai sat across her guest and took a cup of tea from the tray. As she slowly sipped her warm drink, her gaze shifted from Lu Xinyi to Sun Feiyan. These two had never been on good terms since they first met years ago. How come they were suddenly amicable to each other?
A smile crossed on her lips, hidden behind her teacup. She wasn’t sure what was up with these two, but it must be really important as they dared to enter her territory; knowing they weren’t welcome in here.
“So what brought you here?” Her gaze darted at Sun Feiyan. “I heard you’re marrying Ye Xingjie. I have to commend him for making a fool out of me. I would have never suspected that the man standing next to you was a young master from the Ye family. Are you here to invite me to your wedding?” She told her.
Sun Feiyan’s mood turned sour. Why would she want this woman to be on her special day?
“No.” She immediately shut down her aunt’s assumption at once, not giving Sun Mingai time to argue. “I’m only here because Lu Xinyi asked me to.”
Sun Mingai chuckled and glanced at Lu Xinyi who was sitting comfortably across her. There was no hint of worry or annoyance in her face as a lazy smile was plastered on her lips.
“So it’s Madam Shen.” Sun Mingai nodded to herself, placing her teacup on top of the table separating them. “Is there something else I can help you with? If you are here for financial help, then you’ll be wasting your time. This old woman has nothing to give you anymore.”
“How can you even think of that, Aunt Mingai? Please don’t offer something you don’t even have,” Lu Xinyi responded. Money? Wealth? It was something Sun Mingai didn’t have anymore. Sure, she was able to support herself and hire a few maids to service her, but she didn’t have the liberty to brag anything in front of Lu Xinyi.
“Then, what more do you want?!” Her aunt demanded sharply. Were they here to make fun of her? Hadn’t Lu Xinyi successfully destroyed and taken whatever she had?
Sun Mingai’s blood was boiling with rage. Faced with the daughter of her sister, she was reminded once again that she was inferior compared to Sun Meixiu and now to her niece, Lu Xinyi.
“You really can’t blame me for this, Aunt Mingai. You can only blame yourself. You don’t know a thing, and yet you only know how to destroy everything around you. I really wonder what Uncle Jin saw in you.”
That remark was enough to rile up Sun Mingai. Shen Jinxiu was the sole person that could affect her like this, and Lu Xinyi just poked her sore spot. Sun Mingai was obviously furious at her niece.
“Lu Xinyi! How dare you?!” she yelled at the younger woman across her, “You don’t know what you are talking about!”
“Sure, I don’t… but you are worse than me.” Lu Xinyi placed her right foot back on the floor and pulled something out from her handbag. “Sun Mingai, regret is a terrible thing, but things happen for a reason.” She placed a small black box on the table and eyed the other woman.
