Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!-Chapter 96: Aren’t We Friends?
Stella Grant only saw Silas Sutton and Charlotte Shelby leave the banquet, not noticing that he’d come out.
Upon hearing him speak, she glanced around and lowered her voice to ask, "You came out?"
Silas Sutton feigned ignorance, "What do you mean by ’came out’?"
Stella realized Silas Sutton didn’t know she’d seen him at the birthday banquet and whispered, "I was at Miss Shelby’s birthday banquet and just saw you there."
Silas Sutton replied indifferently, "Oh."
Stella asked, "Where are you now?"
Silas Sutton said, "In my car, where are you?"
Stella glanced toward the parking lot and saw Silas Sutton’s car in the front row. She whispered, "Could you wait for me a few more minutes?"
Silas Sutton turned his head to look at her through the car window, noticing her stealthy manner with a slight curl of his lips, "How long?"
Stella, "Ten minutes."
Silas Sutton agreed readily, "Alright."
After hanging up with Silas Sutton, Stella turned back to continue chatting with Hugh York.
Hugh York had a positive impression of Stella, and coupled with last year’s project advantage, naturally talked a bit longer.
A woman who is beautiful and smart, pleasing to the eye and able to discuss work, is hard for anyone not to like.
If they don’t, it’s probably due to competition.
After chatting for a while, Stella checked the time and bid farewell to Hugh York, "President York, sorry for taking up so much of your personal time. If you’re interested in collaboration, I’ll visit you another day."
Hugh York half-jokingly said, "If I’m not interested in collaboration, you’ll give up?"
Stella smiled in response, "No, I’ll keep trying."
Hugh York said, "I’m going to Portmere on a business trip tomorrow. Next week, bring your collaboration proposal to find me."
Stella sincerely thanked him, "Thank you for giving me this opportunity."
When Stella left, Hugh York gave her a business card, half-jokingly mentioning he wanted to recruit her to Shawn Bishop’s company.
Stella took the business card and thanked him again, "You’re flattering me."
After leaving the banquet, Stella didn’t dare go directly to Silas Sutton’s car.
With so many eyes around, she didn’t want unnecessary trouble.
She walked out of the banquet hall and crossed a street before picking up the phone to call Silas Sutton.
Silas Sutton answered, and Stella said warmly, "President Sutton, why don’t you drive directly to my place? I’ll buy some groceries and take a taxi home."
She had just had a drink; though it was only a couple of sips, she shouldn’t drive.
Silas Sutton was right behind her at that moment, didn’t reply, and tapped the horn twice with one hand on the steering wheel.
Upon hearing the noise behind her, Stella instinctively turned back.
Seeing it was Silas Sutton, her expression froze for a moment, then she glanced around before quickly running to the back seat of the car.
Afraid that if she ran a step slower, she’d be seen.
As soon as Stella opened the car door, Silas Sutton raised his eyelids to look at her in the rearview mirror, half-smiling, "Am I your driver?"
Stella hesitated, mid-step into the car, then quickly withdrew her leg, "Should I sit in the front passenger seat then?"
Silas Sutton raised a hand to unbutton two buttons on his shirt collar, "Yeah."
Stella closed the door to head to the front passenger seat, thinking a lot during this short distance.
Firstly, Silas Sutton must be in a bad mood right now. Secondly, he actually considers her a friend.
Reaching the front seat, Stella bent down to get in, and Silas Sutton turned the steering wheel leisurely, "How did the talk go?"
Stella knew he was asking about the project and answered truthfully, "I made myself known."
Silas Sutton asked in a low voice, "Can you secure it?"
Stella didn’t dare boast, "I’ll try my best."
Silas Sutton turned his head to look at her, "Do you need my help?"
Stella was stunned for a second, hearing Silas Sutton naturally say, "Aren’t we friends now? Helping each other is normal between friends."
Stella, "..."
Stella isn’t very adept at making friends. Maybe she once was, but ever since The Grant Family’s incident, she’s learned how shallow human feelings can be.
Rather than making friends sincerely, she believes more in shared interests.
Though it might not sound very warm, it’s definitely more reliable.
So, suddenly hearing Silas Sutton say he considers her a friend, Stella felt a bit... overwhelmed.
Seeing her not speak after his words, Silas Sutton slightly raised his eyebrows and asked in a deep voice, "What’s wrong?"
Stella wasn’t comfortable telling him the truth and hurting his feelings, so she smiled slightly, "No need, I can handle it myself."
Silas Sutton, "Okay, let me know anytime if you encounter problems."
Stella, "Sure."
Following the end of this topic, they were silent for a moment.
After a while, while waiting at a red light at an intersection, Silas Sutton lit a cigarette and spoke hoarsely, "Stella, do you look down on me?"
Stella didn’t understand his question, "What?"
Silas Sutton removed the cigarette from his lips, flicking ash into the car’s ashtray, his brows and eyes lowered, "On the surface, I look glamorous but in reality, I’m at the whim of others, reduced to nothing, life rotten to the core, rotting all the way to the bone..."
