Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!-Chapter 60: Dealing with Scum
It takes roughly six hours to drive from Veridia to Flynn Shepherd’s hometown.
Stella Grant drove from noon until dusk without stopping at a service station, avoiding drinking water to skip bathroom breaks.
Flynn Shepherd’s hometown is a small county town, and it’s actually several dozen kilometers from the county center.
Upon arrival, Stella found a print shop and printed out all the pictorial evidence and text truth about Flynn Shepherd’s ’sleazy deeds,’ then put them in the trunk and sat down in a small restaurant for a meal.
After eating and replenishing her strength, Stella got back in the car and waited until two in the morning.
Seeing that the few families in the village had all their lights out, she retrieved the printed items from the trunk and slipped them into the gaps of Flynn Shepherd’s relatives’ doorways.
Once everything was done, Stella drove back to Veridia.
Stella thought she executed her plan flawlessly, not knowing that Silas Sutton had already received information.
At two in the morning, Silas Sutton was awake, sitting by the hospital bed peeling an apple for the ’third-degree disabled person’ Ben Lawson.
Ben Lawson, with his head bandage removed, could talk, but his upper body still couldn’t move freely. "Isn’t this woman a bit too ruthless? Vengeful to the extreme, huh?"
Silas Sutton shot him a glance, expressionless, "What’s wrong with being vengeful? Should she be a soft persimmon, easily squeezed by others?"
Ben Lawson smiled slightly, "Admitting she’s your woman now?"
Silas Sutton paused in peeling the apple, caught in Ben Lawson’s trap.
Ben Lawson felt triumphant, and then asked, "If you’re so worried about her safety, spending the night here, why not just intervene directly to help her?"
Silas Sutton calmly finished peeling the last bit of apple skin and offered a slice to Ben Lawson’s mouth, "If someone stabs you, would you prefer to stab them yourself or have me stab them for you?"
Silas Sutton’s example was startlingly relatable, and Ben Lawson took a bite of the offered apple and said, "Got it."
Silas Sutton asked, "What did you understand?"
Ben Lawson replied, "Understood that you seem innocent and playful, but in reality cunning and calculative."
Silas Sutton’s lips curled slightly, "Why didn’t Sue Woods finish you off?"
Upon mentioning Sue Woods, anger surged in Ben Lawson, "If you hadn’t mentioned her, I’d have been fine. You mention her, and I’m infuriated. Do I look like someone who lacks women?"
Silas Sutton’s smile didn’t reach his eyes as he replied, "People can be deceptive. It shows this girl has good self-preservation instincts."
Ben Lawson’s anger intensified, the two broken ribs in his chest aching, "She defends against me? I should be the one defending against her, right? If something ever happened between us, it would definitely be her forcefully attacking me."
Silas Sutton teased, "I’d advise you not to think dangerously like that. Judging by your injuries now, if she did forcefully attack you, I’m afraid she’d end up killing you."
Ben Lawson took Silas Sutton’s words in and shuddered.
Stella returned to Veridia at dawn.
After a night of turmoil, she should have been utterly exhausted, but perhaps because it was her first rebellious act since childhood, despite physical fatigue, her mind was extraordinarily excited. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Stella sat on the sofa, drank a glass of water, realizing she couldn’t keep going like this, went into the bathroom for a soak to relieve her fatigue, and started feeling sleepy.
Taking advantage of the sleepiness, Stella left the bathroom, returned to the bedroom to rest, and nestled into the soft duvet, feeling indescribably comfortable and secure.
Stella slept straight through to the afternoon.
Upon waking up, her phone on the bedside table had over forty missed calls.
Eight were from Sue Woods, the rest all from Flynn Shepherd.
Stella tapped her finger on the screen and dialed back Sue Woods’ number.
The call connected, and Stella barely said ’hello’ before Sue excitedly asked, "Stella, was it you? Was it you?"
Still drowsy from sleep, Stella was bewildered, "What?"
Sue Woods said, "You don’t know yet? Flynn Shepherd got beaten up today and not only that, he was fired from his newly applied job, and his deeds have been exposed to his hometown relatives. His household is now chaotic and has lost face."
