Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!-Chapter 218: Do You Feel Sorry for Me?
Silas Sutton spoke those two sentences with an air of nonchalance.
Ben Lawson heard them and four big words floated through his mind: shameless to the extreme.
If he had to add four more characters after these ’four words,’ it would be: reaching the pinnacle.
After Silas Sutton finished speaking and saw that Ben Lawson didn’t respond, he asked in a deep voice, "Unwilling?"
Ben Lawson gritted his teeth and forced a smile, saying, "Willing, very willing, even if you hadn’t said anything, I was already planning to do it."
Ben Lawson was lying, but his lie was something Silas Sutton enjoyed very much.
Before they hung up, Ben Lawson asked a soul-searching question, "Mr. Sutton, is she the only one?"
Silas Sutton knew exactly who he meant by "she," and with a serious tone, he said, "She’s the only one."
Ben Lawson clicked his tongue, "Tsk, tsk, tsk, you’re really acting crazy for love now, willing to crash into walls head-on for it."
After Stella Grant returned to her room, she couldn’t fall back asleep. She tossed and turned, reflecting on her life until Aunt Adler came up to call her for lunch, and she managed to snap out of it.
Stella Grant adjusted her emotions and went downstairs. Seeing her, Silas Sutton thoughtfully ladled a bowl of soup and placed it at her seat.
Sitting down, Stella Grant glanced at the soup in front of her and then at the beaming Silas Sutton. For some reason, a sudden sense of guilt washed over her.
Initially, Stella Grant didn’t say much, merely thanked him and lowered her head to stir her soup.
After stirring it a couple of times, she hesitated, feeling that some things were better cleared up. She looked up at Silas Sutton, coughed lightly, and said, "Silas Sutton."
Silas Sutton looked up, "Hmm?"
Stella Grant, "Don’t take what I said this morning to heart."
Silas Sutton chuckled lightly, "Planning to backtrack?"
Stella Grant furrowed her brow slightly, "It’s not that, it’s just that this morning’s situation..."
Stella Grant found herself at a loss for words, unsure how to explain.
Just as she thought Silas Sutton might ’take advantage of it,’ she heard him say, "Thanks for what happened this morning."
Stella Grant inhaled sharply, gripping the spoon in her hand tightly, "No need."
Silas Sutton lowered his gaze in self-mockery, "Made you laugh at me."
Stella Grant, "It wasn’t that funny."
During those years when The Grant Corporation was declining, she had been worse off than him.
The difference was that she was weak on the outside but still had Lynn Adler at home, whereas he was glamorous outside but was suppressed and ostracized at home.
The atmosphere turned somewhat oppressive, and in an effort to hide her emotional fluctuations, Stella Grant lowered her head and took a sip of the soup.
The warm soup slid down her throat and into her stomach, calming her a bit. She said, "Have you always been like this in The Sutton Family?"
Silas Sutton didn’t deny it, "Hmm."
Stella Grant, "Why don’t you resist?"
With his abilities, there was no need for him to suffer this frustration.
Silas Sutton replied blandly, "Too lazy to resist."
Stella Grant frowned, "Do you just let them slander you like that?"
Silas Sutton put down his chopsticks and leaned back against the chair, looking at Stella Grant with lowered eyes, and after a full seven or eight seconds said, "Not every time is slander; out of ten times, there are basically seven times when I did do it,
And I’m dealing with a big family on my own, so I have to know how to focus on the right things. Fighting with someone like Chloe Underwood is a kind of self-destructive consumption, the cheapest kind."
Chloe Underwood just had to move her mouth, whereas he had to expend effort to explain himself.
If Mr. Sutton were on his side, it would be different, but clearly, the balance in Mr. Sutton’s heart leaned toward the main house, Chloe Underwood, Miles Sutton, and Theodore Sutton.
So instead of exhausting himself to prove he didn’t do something, he might as well take the hit and save some time to do other things.
After saying that, seeing Stella Grant remain silent, Silas Sutton smiled and said, "Stella, the road a person has to walk in life is long. Remember one thing: winning in things you shouldn’t win in is even less worthwhile than losing in things you shouldn’t lose in. No matter when, always weigh the pros and cons."
Stella Grant, "Is this a businessman’s thinking?"
Silas Sutton replied, "When you want to take revenge on someone, don’t just think about retaliating against the harm they’ve done to you; instead, think about striking at their biggest weakness, so even if they crave fame, they can’t get it; even if they crave profit, they find none ..."
Stella Grant remained silent, "..."
Silas Sutton looked at her, laughing quietly, "Stella, do you feel sorry for me?"
Stella Grant pressed her lips together, not answering.
Silas Sutton leaned forward, and across the dining table, brushed his finger lightly over her lips, speaking in an enticing manner, "I once heard someone say that when a woman starts to have feelings for a man, it’s either out of admiration or sympathy. Do you belong to the latter now?"
