Limits-Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
You might wonder, how do I know? Or who am I exactly? To answer your first question. I know because I've seen things common folks will never see. I've experienced things, no one has experienced. I've been to places no one visited before. Although the answer might be a bit vague now but if you manage to read everything I wrote, the answer will become clear to you. You will come to understand why and how I came to know these things.
As for the other question? I had many names. Sometimes people called me hero, sometimes I was called devil and sometimes they called me scholar. It's been so long since my name was spoken… Nex is my name. Now, let us start from the beginning of how all of this begun.
I, like many others was just a common guy. Average or even worse you might say in some cases. I lived in a village called Freemount which was part of the Endrosian Empire. The capital was called Endros Imperial City due to the founder of the empire, Endros. To get from Freemount Village to another village would take someone about two days of travel, of course using a horse. As for Imperial City? I never heard of anyone going there from here. We didn't even possess maps that showed the location of the Imperial City. Those things were the historical records that the common folks knew about. The Great Forest covered about two thirds of the empire, there were also mountains and plains but forest mostly.
I never left the vicinity of the village in my life. I never travelled to other villages and most people never did, just like me. One day everything changed when I encountered a travelling caravan.
What changed? You may ask. Simple, a person appeared in my life. Haha. No, it was not some sort of expert that took me in and discovered my hidden talent or any kind of crap like that. I met a woman and fell in love with her. She seemed to share the same feelings as we flirted and even kissed once but that was all a scam, bullshit.
I talked with her about everything, I was intoxicated by her, I even confessed from some of my secrets. There was only one thing I never told her and that was the location of my family heirloom. I was naive back then and although I told her about the heirloom, I now know. Her motive to get closer to me or even wrap me around her finger, was to get my heirloom! My parents always told me to take special care of it and never show it to people. To me it wasn't anything great, just a sword. I knew nothing about swords. I don't know where she got that information from but I'm now certain she knew from the beginning I had it. The only thing she wanted from the beginning was my family's heirloom and not relationship.
She sweet talked me to give her that heirloom. If I did, she would marry me. Oh how stupid was I to believe that. She took it of course and then disappeared. Breaking my heart and my soul. I should've known better than that. Marriage after only couple weeks worth of relationship! Bah! I got what I deserved for my stupidity!
I became a wreck of a man. Soon after, I've lost my job... my home and before I knew it, I ended up on the streets.
It may seem to you my dear reader, that my story will be rather sad one. I can't blame you, it all seems to go that way. BUT! I finally got a grip on myself and decided to do something about it. It was all thanks to some old timer that lived on the streets as well. We spent a lot of time together. He showed me where to get food from or where I could sleep the night. We also talked about various things… well, mostly me crying about my fate and broken heart.
Yet there is one thing he said to me that I would never forget. The words he once spoke to me changed my life. "Young one. Although life can be difficult, love can hurt and wealth disappear. I've long lost interest in those things. This old man may seem homeless but doesn't that mean the whole world is my home? Young one. Don't waste your life, explore it!"
These were the last words he spoke to me. Next day, he disappeared. To this day, I don't know where he went and I've never met him since. Nonetheless, thanks to his words, I understood something. 'Isn't the whole world my home? Instead of wasting my time crying and complaining about what happened to me, isn't it better to explore my life?' I asked myself.
Soon after, I decided to leave the village and go on a journey to explore my life. Of course, I was a total stranger to adventuring. If I could make any preparations, I would probably do them the wrong way. Besides, I had nothing left. I was already sleeping on the streets so buying any supplies was impossible in a short run. Young and stupid, I decided to go forth and explore my life.
