Limitless Evolution System: Reincarnation of the Strongest Slayer God-Chapter 61: Necessary Decisions
Chapter 61: Necessary Decisions
Apart from hunting the Yeti, most of Liam’s time was spent on evacuation missions, and then during every spare moment he had, he would focus on searching different areas throughout Detroit, hoping to find any trace of Yaela.
The Mystery Box in his inventory, much like the previous one, could not be opened until he reached a certain level, and this particular box required him to be Level 7. He had gained it randomly after completing a daily quest within the past few days, and somehow it felt like the system was trying to reward him for all the challenges it had put his body through.
"Now where should I put these stats?" he said to himself, his gaze wandering over his character sheet. Then a thought struck him—maybe if I had more points in perception, I would have been able to sense when Yaela was being taken.
He sighed and then with that in mind, he allocated all his available stat points to PRC, hoping that if something like that ever happened again, he would be ready.
[PRC 44 → 54]
Eventually, Liam retreated to his room, muttering to himself as he climbed the staircase. "I’ll find you, Yaela. I promise." His voice remained hopeful, still clinging to the chance that his sister was alive.
Eventually, the next morning came, and Liam, dressed in a properly fitted suit and tie, left for USOV’s facility using his usual method, which was flying through the air.
...
Already at the facility that morning was Team C. Amir, Sarah, and Silas stood together in the lobby when Elaine walked down from Director Grey’s office and approached her clustered teammates. "I just confirmed with the director—he called Liam in today," she announced.
Sarah’s eyes lit up with determination. "Good. Today we won’t let him slip past us."
The rest of the team nodded in agreement.
...
Not long after, Liam reached the facility and approached the main building’s entrance, then his body transformed into a streak of lightning, as he traveled through the electrical systems of the building, causing bulbs to flicker and dim before reappearing directly in Grey’s office through a wire connection that led to the director’s workspace.
Grey was signing documents when this happened, with Kent standing beside him and pointing out details on the papers to draw Grey’s attention, while Quinn sat in a corner on one of the sofas. Her hair was neatly styled and she wore a professional suit, her shorter stature making her appear almost dwarfed by the furniture.
Quinn visibly startled when she saw Liam emerge from what appeared to be a spark from one of the light fixtures in Grey’s office. Kent sighed and shook his head, it didn’t get any less unsettling or disrespectful each time Liam made his entrance this way over the past few days.
Grey himself looked up and spoke first. "Liam, you’re going to make me really angry with that kind of entrance," he said curtly, his face expressionless. Liam had been entering his office this way for several days now. At first, Grey had said nothing about it, but it was beginning to get on his nerves.
Liam hadn’t paid enough attention to notice Quinn sitting on the sofa, and without acknowledging Grey’s complaint, he went straight to the point. "You asked me to report today, Director. Any leads on my sister?"
Quinn, looking at Liam now, couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She had been away for some time, but not long enough to make the difference she noticed in Liam seem possible. She couldn’t help but interrupt. "How?"
The Director and Kent turned their attention toward her, and Liam, feeling the question was directed at him, tilted his head to the side to realize Quinn had been sitting there all along. "Oh, hello," he said casually to the woman who had originally recruited him into USOV, then turned back to the Director with an expectant expression.
Quinn spoke again before the Director could continue. "How have you grown this much in such a short period?" Her eyes showed visible shock, considering that the last time she had met Liam, he was below A-tier level, but now his energy felt comparable to the Director’s.
Liam’s gaze shifted back to her briefly, but he had no words to offer, and at that moment, the Director quickly interjected. "Liam, we have nothing on Yaela’s whereabouts yet. We only know for certain that wherever she’s been taken is connected to one of the family heads."
Liam sighed in disappointment after hearing Grey’s response, then asked, "Why was I called here?" Since it wasn’t about his sister, it had to be for something worthwhile at least.
...
Meanwhile, when the lights in the facility started flickering upon Liam’s arrival, the members of Team C looked at each other knowingly.
"He’s here," Elaine announced.
For the better part of a week, this had been how Liam entered the facility, effectively avoiding his friends in Team C. They hadn’t fully understood the connection with the flickering lights, but they knew that each time the lights behaved this way, Liam was in the Director’s office. When the lights flickered again later, it meant he had left the facility.
However, they were determined to put an end to this pattern today and make contact with him before he left.
"The lights have been stable for a while, so he’s still in there," Amir said, staring at the bulbs above.
Elaine addressed the rest of her team. "Alright, everyone. Let’s go."
And steadily, they all walked through the lobby and took the stairs toward Mr. Grey’s office. Eventually they reached the front door, and Elaine, standing in front of her team, took a deep breath and delivered two knocks.
...
When Liam asked why he had been called, Grey looked toward Quinn and nodded, giving her permission to take the floor.
Quinn had already been briefed on Liam’s situation by the Director, and what he was made to believe, so with that, she was now part of the plan. This also made it certain that the details of her findings, which she was about to share, would make Liam even more motivated to engage in the mission.
"You were called here for a special mission, one related to one of the thirteen families—"
However, just as Quinn was about to continue, a knock was heard on Grey’s door, prompting her to stop speaking.
The Director looked up toward the door and said, "Come in." The door pushed open and Team C entered, with Elaine standing in front. Their eyes immediately found Liam, who stood several meters away with his back to them, apparently not caring enough to turn around and see who had just entered.
Team C’s plan had worked however, as Liam was still in the office.
Without waiting, as soon as they entered, Elaine spoke up immediately. "Sorry for barging in this way, Director."
Upon hearing that voice, Liam’s heart skipped a beat. His eyes widened slightly and his body tensed. That was Elaine’s voice, and the footsteps he could hear behind her had to belong to Team C.
